NZRU are reporting SBW is not joining the NZRU in 2014.

Gee the media give this Guy a hard time…yesterday they reported sighting him with an NZRU official and instantly called him a traitor for declaring he wants to play in the RLWC only to meet with an NZRU official...now its apparent why the meeting took place....and the media got it wrong again!

Awesome!

people always assume the worst about SBW, after the Dogs, personally i think everyones a bit harsh on him. I mean, the other week someone outed SBW for supporting an important charity organisation that he'd helped a lot for over 10 years. He clearly didn't want people to know and I personally take that as a far better representation of his character than some media BS or his actions from when he was a kid angry at the dogs management and took the wrong choice which i'm sure he'd rectify now if he could go back.

SBW thinks he is special, because he has been told he was special since he was a teenager. As a result his professional actions throughout his career shows his lack concern for anyone not named SBW OMG.

Being a part of a charity is great. He still thinks he is special and not bound by the same rules as everyone else.

IMO the publics reaction and general opinion of SBW OMG is 100% spot on.

And some were so convinced he was going to leave the Roosters high and dry after only a yr.

Given his previous track record I can't say to blame them.

He's shown nothing but respect, gratitude and professionalism since returning to the NRL. Why does one decision he made as a kid need to affect everything he decides to pursue afterwards. People need to move on…...

No worries Tahu it was done for a good cause. To support an icon who suddenly changed his mind.

Well to be honest, he probably would have if NZRU had a as deep pockets as uncle Nick…

Though I was under the assumption that the Roosters had saved portions of previous years caps to allow them to go over this year in order to attain Jennings, Maloney and SBW... How many players would they have to drop in order to be under next season. Things dont add up...

He said he would completely understand if they rejected him, but they didn't, either decision NZ rugby league made people would be angry. Either about Tohu or not playing SBW.

It was clearly as a result of his earlier decision to play union in 2014, but he later changed his mind and now wants another season at the chooks therefore making him eligible to NZ, otherwise he'd probably be training like Benji is at the blues.

Just Maloney I think.
Jennings being part paid by Penrtith and $bill only came on board with em in Jan

I heard SBW is gong to officially sign in Feb 2014 for the remainder of the season. I assume his 2013 contract expires in Nov this year. If this is the case, that means he is a free agent therefore allowing him to box if he wishes.
I don't know if this makes him an uncontracted player but if he is how does he get to play in the World Cup.
Not bashing SBW, just wondering what the requirements are?

Seriously all the clowns that bag him are just sore people. The guy is a once in a lifetime athlete you have to admire his achievements. Yeh maybe the doggies saga was poor form. But he has comeback to league and killed it with a lot of support mostly from chooks fans but I would guess most teams supporters would love to have . Including me a mad Tigers fan. You here no1 is bigger than the game! But geez this guy is close

Can you not see the difference between his contract negs and the total lack of responsibility and selfishness hes shown…and his footballing ability?

No ones questioning the latter :unamused:

Open ur eyes

Just because a person has been gifted with a certain ability does not necessarily make him a better person.

I agree, he has shown those things. And I have been impressed overall with the change in him.

But there is more out there than the Footy Show segment and countless Wielder puff pieces.

My eyes are open. He is exploring his other avenues. That he can easily do and do well. It's because he is such a good footballer / athlete that anyone cares. He can demand to have a one year contract at top $$$$. And clubs all over the world come knocking. He is responsible for himself no one else. At the the end of the day the Nrl loves the spotlight that follows him it creates money. Well above what his contract would be. It's great his in our game. Even if he ever goes back to Union he will always be seen as league player

Thats my sentiments in a nutshell… I have alot of respect for how he carried the spotlight this year, have even began to respect him as a sportsperson after the initial bad taste he left in the RL mouth, but I am somehow unconvinced by the sincerity of the whole gig. If he was serious about testing himself at the pinnacle of his sporting ability, I dont understand why he initially called himself out of the WC, doesnt fight better fighters (his media persona allows him to call for bigger fights, etc)

Most Sydney people know of the La Perouse snake man, John Cann, that bloke represented Aus in the Olympic decathlon, played both RL and Union at high level and was also a pro boxer, add to that his OEM and life long work with reptiles especially turtles, and environmental work... yet would never have a soul sing his praises in his presence, far too humble...

Suppose I am trying to say SBW seems too humble when the camera is on him, yes I am proud of him for what seems to be his quiet work behind the scenes with charity, truly, but he is also the same person who supports his management totally and the media circus they create, and feel he is a media puppet who only promotes when his self worth is at the fore.

Not taking away from his ability as an athlete at the highest level at all... just how he chooses to measure himself.

I haven't made up my mind about sonny yet but i dislike the term "gifted athlete"

It's like god gave them the talent which is untrue IMO. Most of these so called gifted players get into sports from a very young age and train very hard from a young age to earn the talent. Gifted is a bad choice of word IMO.
