Season Slow Start ?

Tigrr

While it's great to see the Tigers have 6 wins in a row, how come there was such a bad start to the season ? They began the season so disjointed in attack in the backs and 'soft'in the forwards but have gradually found form. You can't just say that they always 'start the season slow !'

Oh, according to the press the Tigers players all hated each other, and there was in-fighting in the club….

Where are those stories now I might wonder?

It wont the last one we always start slow and look at as now top 4 were fireing at the right time and not even at our best wait untill we click cant wait for the finals fire up tigers.

We usually are like 5/5 after 10 games most seasons, but we never really lost 5 in a row early I dont think since 2005

It wasnt the losses so much just the manner in which they lost

Tedesco trained off season at FB then injured 30 mins into season
Moltzen trained at half
This caused chaos so early and created an entire shuffling of the decks
Team seemed to lose confidence
Galloway injury also didn't help
Media scrutiny
Lawrence no,off season lacking fitness speed ditto tuquri
Then Utah injured followed by Ellis
Farah SOO scrutiny
Sheens away for four nations during off season leaving new assistant georgallis at helm.
A few new players come into squad
No wonder I reckon!

we were crap but other teams have gotten stronger to . very tight comp and we werent getting flogged every week Tiatans and panthers are beating top sides crazy comp ?

The lose to Souths was unlucky (ref ruled a scrum rather than a penalty in front + wobbles at the death). The loses to Canberra and St George we had some structural problems resulting mainly from losing Galloway and having to play Groat at prop + both those teams had their best performances of the season vs us. Game vs Manly we would win if Tony Williams didn't play (which other teams got to play Manly with him suspended or injured). Our performances and balance were poor too.

I can't see us losing any more games in the manner we lost to St George and Canberra, from now on in we will win most games and lose a few close ones imo to finish between 3-5th

I'm just glad we've stopped clocking off in the last 20 minutes over the last three weeks

the 5 min period before and after half time have been a concern for some time.
at the moment this area appears to have been sorted out.

keep focussed for entire match and good results have followed

I would say injuries and the draw are factors.

For injuries, we didn't have Lote on the paddock at first, Utai got injured early, Tedesco gone game 1\. Then Heighno, Galloway and Ellis out long term. Rowdy and Farah carrying niggling injuries early. All as covered above. We are now full strength bar the Geezer.

We were also lucky enough to have a run of games against struggling teams - some average performances but enough to secure the points and gain confidence. Then coming into form at home against a few similarly-placed teams like Warriors or Cowboys.

The slow start still could come back to haunt us. Say what you like about Sheens, but he seems to be able to get a team firing at the right end of the season. My worry this year that he may have had to pull the whip to early and we may die on our run. He has had to ask his top players to play big minutes to keep the momentum going.

Anyway time will tell, and on a positive note this comp bar a few teams is pretty average, so we should not drop to many points over the next couple of months.

sheens did start a new thing on sat night he gave farah and blair a rest , i think other than a couple of min that is blairs 1st breather in a game this season.galloway has missed some games so he is still fresh heigho the same, and ellis will be fresh at the right end of the season. fulton is just a machine, so all he needs to do is get the balance right with woods and the bench.

sjtiger….summed up perfectly. Losing Tedesco to injury was a major blow which led to positional changes which contributed to loss of confidence which was compounded by injuries to key players and the cycle continues.

As you say a number of losses (brisbane, canberra) could be sheeted home to Moltzen playing poorly at 1 and Groat being exposed.

On the plus side we have battled thru. Some players have had to step up and have been thrown out of their comfort zone (lawrence/ashyford at 6, beau at 3, moltzen back at 1, BMM, Humble, Sironen). We now have around 30 players who can contribute.

With winning and consistency comes amnesia of the bad times and accompanying criticism of the team.
