Semi Finals Draw - Mcyntire System - Super Thread

Surely they can't play that bad again? They were woeful.

They will be missing Moon and probably Mannering and Rapira too.

It will be like when the roosters took on broken versions of both penrith and the gold coast last year. Hopefully Newcastle can belt up some of the Melbourne players tomorrow, and still lose.

So if Knights fluke a win tomorow they get to play the dragons?? lucky them!!! a loss sounds better then a win!!

would that also put us with having to go to brisbane?

We will need to get over the Storm at some stage either next week or the following depending on tomorrows result. I think that Brisbane in Brisbane would then be our opponents the following week.

If the Knights did get up tomorrow I can't see them being beaten by the Dragons at Newcastle. But I get the point you are making. Dragons will have gone from possible elimination to a game against the Knights.

**Our two scenarios:**

Storm win = We play the Warriors next Friday night @SFS.
Knights win = We play Storm in Melbourne?????????.

Wk3 Scenario: If we play Warriors and beat them we play the Storm in Melbourne week 3.

Either way we play the Storm in Melbourne.!!…That's a bummer!! :sign:

I don't think that's correct mate? We won therefore we get the home game… So if Knights win we play Melbourne in Sydney then we'd have to go to Brisbane to play the Broncos at Suncorp.

That's right because Storm will have lost the right to host a home final by losing to the Knights. Win and they get the home advantage against us or Warriors(hope not!) in two weeks.

Next week is at home, the week after is away. If you win your week 1 final, your next game is at home, if you lose it, you're away.

It's all in the opening post people.

I know the system is a little complex but I can't believe people still don't get it.
If the Storm win, we play the Warriors in Syd Friday night then the Storm in Melb the week after.
If the Knights win, we play the Storm in Syd Friday night then the Broncos in Bris the week after.

The McIntyre system is a farce - if the knights fluke a win then our reward for winning our semi is to play against the side ranked number 1 in an elimination and saints punishment for losing would be to play the team ranked 8th - if the NRL want to persist with this system them they should make the rule that teams finishing 5 to 8 will not host a home semi at any stage - if newcastle win they will get to play at home against saints - what a joke.

Sums it all up pretty damned well…its crap.

the other problem with the system is that heavily favours teams out of sydney due to home ground advantage right up to grand final

…personally i think the current system is rubbish.
the afl has it much better where the bottom 4 play and the top four play first week.

The problem with the AFL systems IMO is that the qualifying finals give too much away about who's going to win the comp, especially in AFL where the top teams really dominate.

In saying that, the system really gives teams an incentive to strive hard to finish within the top four. If you win your qualifier, your rewarded with a home preliminary and if you lose, you'll get a home semi against a bottom four team. And if you look over the past couple of AFL seasons, you'll notice that the teams who lost the qualifiers came back and beat the winners of the elimination finals at home. It's pretty harsh on the bottom 4, who don't have any chance of playing a home game regardless of whether they win all their games.

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure since it's introduction, a team outside the top 4 has never won an AFL flag under the system?

That is how it should be, the best team over 26 rounds should be rewarded, in the semies their destiny should be controlled by their own performances, you should go into to a game knowing what winning and losing means.
The sides that run top 4 should be the ones to win the GF, unless a team outside of the top4 really earns it.

In our system, if Newcastle win today, after scraping into 8, are in the same position as the team that finished 4th and won their semi. 1 victory (albeit a difficult task) and they might as well been a top 4 team, it makes the first 26 rounds almost redundant.
