Semi Finals Draw - Mcyntire System - Super Thread

How the F*** can sides still be getting a home ground advantage in wk 3 of the finals?? This is a s*** system if that's the case.
I thought only wk 1 & 2 only had home finals?

This is F****D!!!!!

That is one way to look at but at the same time you could argue that if it wasn't that way then Melbourne would have to play in Tigers territory despite winning the minor premiership. The system is far from perfect but at the end of the day to win a competition you should be able to beat any team anywhere.

Why is it in Melbourne?

Tigers v Melbourne in Syd = 40,000
Melbourne v Tigers in Melbourne = 16,000

Yeah, Logical

Melbourne doesn't even deserve a team let alone a semi final

1 and 2 ranked sides always get the home advantage for 2 games
Golden we will play Melbourne in Melbourne i believe

Great just great we have to win at a place we have never won before and the Storm win only 95% of their games there… wonderful just wonderful.

Cause two interstate teams in Melb & Brisbane finish top 4 and both win (assuming Melb win)

Its not the macintyre system as such but the way the NRL have decided home advantage for interstate OS teams

Knights or raiders for example can play week II at home but week III would be in Sydney
Cowboys week II at home but week III at Suncorp.
Titans week II at home week III Suncorp
Melb Warriors and broncos get to play all semis at home if they finish top 4 and not lose

All based on their regions.

Just another aspect of how unfair this comp can be

If only we could have been on the other side of the draw, would much rather have played Manly in Sydney in the prelim.

Oh well. Should only be concerned with next week anyway.

…personally i think the current system is rubbish.
the afl has it much better where the bottom 4 play and the top four play first week.

What s the motivation to win in the AFL top 4??

I like our current system. It isnt perfect but it keeps you interested til the last whistle of the Sunday (1 v 8) game.

My relos down Mexico way say there are plenty that hate the AFL system.

You get a week off and a home prelim.

As has now been shown, us winning this week and the Dragons losing this week has basically meant nothing.

Well, it kind of ment a little….i'd rather be playing the Warriors in Sydney compared to the Broncos in Brisbane.

I like your passion Golden.

However what sort of road did you expect to the GF? Melbourne finished 1st so they deserve advantages? I would argue Warriors in Sydney and Melbourne in Melbourne is a fair enough run. Why can't we win in Melbourne?? There a pretty solid side but far from unbeatable. Warriors we should dispose of.

right so we play the storm who are unbeatable down in Melborune. yuuuuuuk yuuuuuk… now we have to hope for knights to win tomorrow

Golden The storm may be a bit rusty after having a week off and just remember guys the Melbourne spine (Slater ,Cronk ,Smith and Widdup) won't have played a game together for a month Also no Blair
If we can get off to a good start Melbourne are entirely beatable
But first up is the Warriors and they will be fired up after their insipid performance against Broncos

so in 05 we ended up on the other side of the draw because 6th beat 3rd… god I hate this joke of a system I can't beleive we have to do the impossible now to make the grand final

Now my head is hurting even more! 😕 I think I'll just wait and see what the draw is after tomorrow's match. Good night all.

They only team that seems to know how to win down there is the warriors. We have never ever won down there remember too. the dragons if they win who got beat by us get to play 2nd place Manly this is a JOKE, we might as well have lost on Friday so we didn't have to play the Storm

The problem with the AFL systems IMO is that the qualifying finals give too much away about who's going to win the comp, especially in AFL where the top teams really dominate.

In saying that, the system really gives teams an incentive to strive hard to finish within the top four. If you win your qualifier, your rewarded with a home preliminary and if you lose, you'll get a home semi against a bottom four team. And if you look over the past couple of AFL seasons, you'll notice that the teams who lost the qualifiers came back and beat the winners of the elimination finals at home. It's pretty harsh on the bottom 4, who don't have any chance of playing a home game regardless of whether they win all their games.

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure since it's introduction, a team outside the top 4 has never won an AFL flag under the system?

NZ in Sydney is not a bad result. If the Warriors produce a similar game that they did tonight we should be in a good position.

Golden, to win the comp your going to have to go through Melbourne at some stage. Plus playing at the Telstra Dome is not their home ground. Tigers will have some support down there. We can win down there.

I was referring to the fact that a rugby league semi is being played outside NSW or QLD

At this stage I wouldn't be looking past the Warriors. They are going to be very dangerous despite the result tonight.

However if we do get past them it's a nightmare weekend to be heading to Melbourne with AFL Finals and the likelihood that the Swans will be playing Collingwood that weekend which means jacked up prices for flights and accom. If we get past the Warriors unfortuately think i'll have to watch this one at Wests Ashfield.
