OFFICIAL SG Ball Cup

Heard commentator praising one of our players as one who will really go on with it into first grade and a very exciting player. Just after one of the tries . But didn’t catch who he was talking about . Was it Isdale?

Looking at the draw this year, the NSWRL are having a laugh 🙁
In their eight games - Wests have drawn junior powerhouse clubs; Parra, Newcastle, Canterbury, Illawarra & the NZ Warriors (in New Zealand), along with the perennially dangerous Souths. The only fixtures one could consider "friendly" are against Manly & Balmain.

I noticed this too. Saying that Manly beat the Warriors in Matt’s and Ball this morning so you never really know for sure which teams may surprise this year, good or bad. I think it’s safe to say Parra are going to be at or near the top though in ball.

Large bros carved up for them …

The Eels will win it, their 1, 2, 5, 7, 13, 8 & 10 all have genuine NRL potential.
Phoenix Godinet looked dejected after the game, I don’t think it will help the confidence of he or Taupau-Moors by leaving them in this team any longer.
It’s a shame as if we still had the core group that started together in Harold Matthews which included Makasini, Onitoni and Ashton Large, Alex Isdale, Ali Karnib, Thomas Goodfield, Maddox Fui, Tyson Walker etc and Glassie Glassie who must have been injured yesterday.it would be very different and they would no doubt be a top 2 team.
I hope Alex Isdale continues to star and he along with Ali Karnib at least play finals with Balmain.

If as you say - "the Eels will win it", then why pull Godinet & Taupau-Moors after we lost a game (first one of the season) to the eventual champs.

I mean for all we know, Wests could be the second best team in the comp

Our 1-5 are very limited, way off the pace.
Glassie Glassie will improve it and Josh Vella should keep improving once he gets more confidence playing a year up, but this team will struggle, be lucky to win 2 games.
As noted above the team has lost 8 quality players since Harold Matthews, very hard to recover from that.

You’re right
Would’ve been way more competitive. So disappointing

Very impressive performance from Balmain in SG Ball round 1 versus the CC Roosters.

Their defence to hold out the Roosters in the first 2 minutes of the game set the tone.

Really all players contributed but was particularly impressed with the halves Christian Azzi & Alex Isdale, lock and captain Blake Van Drie, fullback Kayden Kanaan, winger Filipe Huahulu and centre Jahziah Palmer-Vaivao.

Balmain still need to improve in controlling the ruck as the Roosters did make some easy metres at times up the middle but our structure kept them at bay. Kudos to our edge defence especially Huahulu who pulled off some important tackles early in the game.

Azzi & Isdale were dominant both setting up tries and nice long kicking games. Azzi is also a very good, tough defender.

Kanaan pulled off a couple of important cover tackles and was lively backing up up the middle. Produced a pearler of a try assist after making a break and putting a perfectly weighted kick through for replacement dummy half Vaha'akolo-Fifita to score.

Van Drie leads from the front. His first 20 mins was exceptional, laying on a try assist, leading kick chases & line speed, making good yards & very good link play.

My POY points:
3 Azzi
2 Van Drie
2 Kanaan
1 Huahulu
1 Isdale
1 Palmer-Vaivao

We could
Do with a good lock coming thru

A huge pathways write up on the Roosters site

Our club should be doing this too, we are left to supporters to do this

I emailed Shaun Mielekamp about lack of pathways news & content early last week (no reply yet but I understand he's probably bombarded with emails atm).

I hope people are raising it at these member forums too. I certainly will if I can get to a future one.

Lack of information in general was raised and I raised the "What Fans Want" letter that included pathways and more in depth interviews instead of the fluff we usualy get.

so roosters are running 2 sets of SG Ball teams. Clever thinking when supported with the right investment of people and dollars. I can see its going to reap dividends for us tigers.
