Shannon Gallant signs with NQ Cowboys

Some disgraceful posts here and on the official website. Many people forget that most players go straight from the playground to the world of football. Most times their education and career prospects are put on hold because of this.We expect these players to give their all for their club, but remember there is no superannuation, very limited prospects of a career in commentary or media, and their partners have often had to put their careers on hold to look after the children and travel between locations with their partner. If Shannon Gallant has had to make a decision which will give him and his family more financial security and stability, the "supporters" of this team need to show him the respect he deserves, and some loyalty to HIM. I'm sure it would have been a difficult decision for him to make and he is moving his family interstate to grab an opportunity that our club has not given him."Loyalty" is a two way street people. Most of you think "Mighty Mouse" is a legend - well it can't all be on your terms. Some posts I've read make me feel ashamed.Good luck to you Shannon and congratulations for making the hard decisions and taking control of your own destiny!

I spoke to Gallant this morning at Ashfield Mall. He was disappointed with the reaction from some people regarding his signing. He said heaps of people on the web have called him a dog , however he knows he has given the tigers his all. He wanted to remain, though needed to consider his family. He's also not ready for the workforce yet, and this is a good chance for him to make a future. He also spoke about how he is looking forward to learning from Matty Bowen, as Matty is his idol. Finally said the deal was done a few days ago but he had to keep it quiet. Overall, he seemed saddened, and I feel sorry for him as it's disgusting for anyone to question his loyalty or decision.

On a side note, poor form Tigers to ask Shannon to front up for a public appearance on the day his decision has been announced. Credit to Shannon though, not many players would have shown up. Also, poor form for not censoring some of the comments on the 'official' blog. Pretty hypocritical to choose not to display comments shown in a negative light regarding their crappy site, but allowing comments of their ex-players to run uncensored .

That's disgraceful if anyone questioned the bloke like that. He gave his all for this club and got very, very little back in return.

I'll never forget him kissing the Magpie crest or the way he added much needed attacking speed to the number 1 jersey.

Good luck Shannon. Go and slay them up there.

Well as a reserve grade standard maggie that is all well and good, but he was trying to forge a career in the top grade as a tiger. Hopefully he can sort out the North Queensland emblem when he gets up there.

Im not fussed his leaving lets face it he was a good reserve grade player but only a average first grader and he did renig on his 1 year deal when he got something better SO I CANT SEE WHY OR THE WHINING IS ABOUT.

I cant wait till next year when he has a few good games and we here the normal guys on here saying why did we let him go AND HES IMPROVED SINCE HE LEFT US.

Our recruitment is shit bla bla bla.

Guys i will get ya a box of tissues.

Shannon was never given a decent go at fullback with the Wests Tigers. By the time they did, it was too late. The injury probably ended up any chance he had of locking in the fullback position.

Good luck Shannon.

Make sure you attach some 10ft aerials to your vehicle, take you sunscreen, and some croc repellent to your new job.

Yeh, great work Tigers.
Things like this make me ashamed to be associated with this ''club''

So let me get this straight - the club censors even the most timid comments about John Morris playing halfback, but when people abuse Gallant and call him a dog, they publish it?

magpies do have brittle bones though!

He can now quietly fade away into obscurity as Sheens always knew he would.

Mate whether he does or he doesn't make it is up to Shannon….always has been.....Sheens made it obvious he was down the pecking order so who wouldn't try too look after their family

No need to dissrepect him here on the forum......He played his guts out for the Wests Tigers jumper.....something a lot of others in our team could take a lessons from...

Your carried on at Ink in another thread for being negative or not supporting the club but here you are bagging Wests and one of it's finest players......hipocracy...

TheFatController, we are talking about a football side, not a soccer side. Get on a different website and talk about something you might know about !

What Shannon Gallant hasn`t mentioned is that the Cowboys offer was much better than the Wests Tigers offer and the Wests Tigers weren`t willing to match it. I`ve got no doubts that it`s a very poor decision to release a talented young footballer who plays each game as if his life depends on it. We do have a few capable replacements and I wish Shannon all the nest in North Queensland, but at the end of the day, he proved his worth to us and not to show much interest in him is a poor management decision !

Cmon…you wouldn't take more money and better security for your family....if something better came a long and mabye a better shot at First grade...

Gallant is a loyal player......loyalty works both ways mate....

Let's hope Brown. Taumata, Lazarus or whoever does go better....Even if the Mouse carves up in North Queensland I'll be happy for him....it's only 2 years he can come back....

I'm very gutted about this. 😢 He was one of the players instrumental in our 6 week streak this season and we're gonna miss him. He'll be carving us up when the Cowboys face the Tigers…you watch.

All the best, Shannon!

At the end of the day, he did what he thought was best for his family- if the WT had given him a better option he might have stayed but thems the breaks- I think he is a fantastic player and can't find fault with him- I wish Shannon all the best with the Cowboys….Of course, I would have preferred him on our team next year :supporter:

In regard to the comments allowed on the official website I have trialled it before putting random crap on there on the weekends and it goes straight up as if the approval process is bypassed on the weekend

Yeah but the difference is Gallant is one of those loyal blokes that is getting harder and harder to find.

He stuck with the Wests Magpies for way longer than he had to as he really wanted to be a Wests Tiger. I know the loyalty bug had been playing on his mind for the last few years ever since he found out he was going to be a father. It made things come into perspective.

So as time goes on, there is only so long you can bring up a family on Bake Beans.

I cannot blame him for finally putting his family first and going for job security.

Congratulations to Mighty Mouse on securing a contract that indicates your worth.

You deserve everything that this game can return to you. Charity begins at home and we will always know that your heart is with the Magpies.

Family comes first. The supporters and the kids love you and now its time to spread your infectious enthusiasm in Nth Qld. The Fibula will be good soon and you will lead into a hard offseason.

You will be in our hearts forever.

Good luck and kill em'

BB

Two things:
1\. Is there an "official" website?
2\. Thos who bag Gallant's size must have forgotten that we had a small general out the back for ages….........

Geo where did i say i wouldnt do the same most people would.

Where did i say he wasnt loyal.

I just said he was a average first grade player that we signed for 1 year only cause of recent form and when he got something better he went for it.

Just stating a fact.

Geo how many players have left the WESTS TIGERS that we wanted to keep improved or even make us regret they have left.

Good luck to SHANNON will be interested to see how he goes if he gets a run.

We are going miss Shannon next year and however good luck to the kid and his family in Nrth Qld.
Sounds like another dud deal done by the Tigers and one we will regret next season.
Was hitting good form until he was injured.
I will still enjoy watching him play as footballer in another teams colors.

Good luck mate.

Good luck and best of health to you whilst at the cowboys Shannon.
may your match performances be very good, and you enjoy your time up there.
.
thanks for your efforts over the years at the maggies/wests-tigers. :wahoo:

Who the heck is this 'TheFatController'. He has no idea what he is talking about. Reminds me of that fool from League Unlimited 'TheManOnTheHill'.
