Shannon Gallant

Reneged is a bit tough. The club agreed to release him and this was, presumably, done because he wasnt in our long term plans. Whether that was the right decision only time will tell. I am not to fussed personally.

No just making a point southern that he signed with us then changed his mind to sign cowboys so what would you call it.

Not fussed either.

T4E "reneged" suggests he didnt do it with the club's blessing. My understanding is that the club wasnt too concerned about letting him go. That was all I was trying to say.

Gallant was not offered a Wests Tigers full time contract at the back end of last season. He signed his standard yearly contract with the Wests Magpies (his employer) which is basically your average award wage + match payments for every game he played for the Wests Tigers.

When the opportunity at the Cowboys came up he left with the blessing of his employer. The offer of a fulltime gig, triple the wage, plus security for his young family in terms of employment for his partner was to good to refuse. The decision was pretty easy imo.

Sheens wasn't a fan of a small fullback so the importance to sign him wasn't great, far enough thats his opinion. People move on looking for opportunity to make a living. The same situation that Mullaney will find himself in shortly. He is at another club now. Good luck to him. Life goes on

People can believe what they want though.

Cheers.

i dont think it was really an issue of size but the fact that Gallant is not a ball playing fullback. I think this will be the difference with Mullaney. Tim pushed lazo to fullback, spent years developing McDonnell and brought Hodgo the club. It doesnt seem like he has been too concerned about size in the past.

Your entitled to your opinion and yes Shannon is more of a traditional fullback and mainly roams down the middle playing off the half and forwards. IMO he also has ball playing skills which he showed some of them against the Titans, throwing the last pass for a couple of tries. I know its not the same but he was also practically playing as a second 5/8 for Wests for the past couple of years. To me this was about size (no pun intended). Anyways good luck to the Mouse.

As for Mullaney, I highly doubt he will get a shot in first grade any time soon….. unless its at another club.

Has Mullaney's form warrranted it this year? I dont think he will play firsts this year but then I never thought he would. The Broncos form this year shows the problem with building a side around too many young players.

If he performs well this year, I think Jake will challenge for the 1 next year. Tim's comments last year suggest he has identified Jake as our future number 1\. The question is when will Jake be ready.

Gallant on the wing? That'd be a disaster. Guys like Folau wouldn't even have to jump to take a bomb off him.

Thats what I heard a few weeks ago. Its a bit of a worry if you are concerned that your fullback would get massacred under the high ball as a winger.

The modern day winger is a lot taller than in the past. Look at all the top wingers in the game today: Vatuvei, Morris, Folau, Tuiaki, Lote, they are all big units. Someone small like Gallant will be the target of bombs on the wing. Not to mention Gallant will give up 30kg to some of these guys, if they get one on one with him, he could struggle.

Shannon Gallant dead set carved up the Titans in a very Matty Bowen like performance. I`m a massive Beau Ryan fan and I wouldn`t swap Tim Sheens for any other coach, but it was a very bad move not to offer Shannon Gallant a very good contract with us, the kid is a star and will more than likely carve us up on Saturday night.

mods, is it possible to start a whole separate private shannon gallant forum where people who still care can go and play with each other?

Haven't seen the game yet but the Titans without Prince are a completely different team and no doubt Prince would have bombed the hell out of Mouse for a different result. Mouse is a fringe 1st first grader at best based on what I have seen - just too small and not enough ball skills. He wouldn't get a sniff at our 17 this year IMO. But good luck to him and I really hope I dont eat my words this weekend …

Just watched the bigpond video 1st half of Gallant … urrr have to eat some of my words above already - Gallant looked really good! Still say he has no space in our 17 and therefore cant see a reason why we should have kept him

Mighty Mouse is better than any player in our backline bar Lotto and Benji.
He is a top class player.
Wests Tigers / Tim Sheens decision not to secure him to a reasonable contract is the **biggest disgrace and injustice** I have ever seen.

I would be very nervous if I was the Fonz. Mice bite.

I dont think anyone will question Gallant in attack. He was very good and exciting, just as everyone saw on the weekend. I do however question his Defence and more importantly, the Titans didnt have a guy called Scott Prince to bomb the crap out of him.

I think this could be the game for Moltzen to step up with Benji and bomb away at there old mate. Heighington, Fulton & Ellis would look scary charging at any fullback all game. I'm also not too sure how Gallant will defend a Lote Tuqiri at full pace, but something tells me it may be in the highlight reels for years to come!!!

 Nice post bug but I disagree. He would only be useful at FB and Beau is doing too well

"Ryan in particular is nothing short of astounding …His past two weeks however have shown that Ryan is at home in the no.1 jersey, scoring a try and making over 206 metres against the Raiders to coincide with his great performance last Friday night against the Parramatta Eels."

Haha Bug I think Lawrence, Tuiaki, Ryan and Moltzen at halfback have him covered there.

Pretty silly call Bug if you ask me. Both Tuiaki and Lawrence leave him for dead in their respective positions. Moltzen is a far better footballer even if he hasnt yet nailed a spot.
