**Sharks make changes for 2010**
By Dean Ritchie From: The Daily Telegraph December 03, 2009 12:01AM
CRONULLA are the latest club to abandon the NSW Cup, while in other changes the club has announced a respected businessman as their new group chief executive.
>
The Sharks have pulled out of the NSW Cup because they can't afford to field a team in the second-tier competition and are currently reviewing alternatives.
>
CEO Richard Fisk said the most likely scenario would involve excess players being "farmed out" to a team in regional NSW. Bundaberg Shield sides Perth Reds and Chester Hill Rhinos are also unlikely to compete next year because of cash flow issues.
>
Meanshwile John Osborne, who spent 15 years as CEO of the Mingara Club on the Central Coast, will assume a role that oversees the leagues club, football club and property development at Cronulla. Fisk will continue in his current role.
>
"It is all positive and we are on the way up," said Cronulla chairman Damian Irvine. "The role of Group CEO has been created to engage the community and drive an evolution that will result in the Sharks being seen as the benchmark for professional sporting and hospitality organisations in Australia.
>
"During his 15 years as CEO of Mingara Club, John was able to transform a relatively obscure club into one of the largest and most successful clubs and community sporting organisations in Australia.
>
"John's background and experience fits like a glove with the recent reinvigoration of the Sharks' entire organisation."
>
Osborne will start his new role on January 4.

Hope J Mo and Collis hold their first grade spots…....... 😱pen_mouth:

No State Cup for the Sharks Hmmm...what a joke of a club........

Does that make the Dragons a joke of a club too? they don't have a state cup side either.

Unless Shellharbour has pulled out too, the Dragons do have a State Cup side.

Shellharbour do not play in the NSW Cup, they play in the Jim Beam Cup (or whatever they're calling that these days, Bundy Red Cup or something).

Shellharbour play NSW State cup M_m …..all be it Badly........

Newcastle Central Coast.........are in next year

Manly are back in to I think....Even the Storm have a side next year......

Shellharbour finished last in the State Cup this year. They had some decent names for them too. Michael Lett, Mathew Head, Jason Nightingale (altho I dont rate him, he has played for NZ).

As far as I know, next year there'll be:
Newcastle/Central Coast
Melbourne Storm (will this be their name?)
BRET
Western Suburbs
Newtown (Roosters)
Shellharbour (Dragons)
Wentworthville (Parramatta)
Windsor (Penrith)
Bankstown City (Bulldogs)
North Sydney (Souths)
Auckland (Warriors)

The Sharks were trying to organise a joint arrangement with the Cabra 2 Blues to field a NSW Cup side. Guess it fell through

Parramatta complained that Cabramatta was their territory and I guess they got their own way.

Disappointing if Perth pulls out of the Bundaberg Cup.

does anyone think its time to go back to the format of:

under 23's, then reserve grade then first grade.

worked fine for sometime before the superlague fiasco.

Great old Idea… BUT... To expensive...

Plus the level of profesionalism vs the pay for lower grade players is very inhibitive.

Under 20's to Under 22's is my nomination.

Cronulla are fielding a team

Cronulla to contest NSW Cup
Friday, 04th December 2009
The New South Wales Rugby League is pleased to announce the Cronulla Sharks will field a team in the NSW Cup competition in 2010.

The state’s premier open age competition will now comprise 12 teams and will run over a 26 week schedule mirroring the NRL competition.

NSW Rugby League General Manager Geoff Carr says the addition of the Sharks is important for the future development of Rugby League in NSW.

“The NSWRL has been working closely with the Cronulla club to ensure they will be represented in next year’s NSW Cup,” Mr. Carr said.

“This result is a step in the right direction for both the NSWRL and the Cronulla club.

“The League received a strong message from NRL clubs asking for us to provide a competition which would allow their players to have 25 weeks of competitive football.

“The inclusion of the Sharks and the new Central Coast Crusaders will allow us to do just that.

The NSW Cup will run over 26 weeks and will begin on the 13th of March with three double headers across the Sydney metropolitan area.

For the first time in NSWRL history a three pool system will be used for rounds one through three pitting traditional clubs Newtown, Western Suburbs, North Sydney and Balmain against each other.

Now that the participating teams are finalised the NSWRL is in a position to finalise the draw for 2010\. The completed draw for 2010 will be released early next week.

Pools for rounds one through three are as follows:
\
\
Pool One (Foundation Pool)
• Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers
• Newtown Jets
• North Sydney Bears
• Western Suburbs Magpies

Pool Two
• Central Coast Crusaders
• Melbourne Storm
• Wentworthville Magpies
• Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs

Pool Three
• Shellharbour Dragons
• Windsor Wolves
• Auckland Vulcans
• Cronulla Sharks
