He deserves to be selected next week, I think it would be an injustice if he wasn't, Brooks bench spot is a waste to start with, MCK is at long odds, but we might have some coming back

Rookie forward Shawn Blore made an eye-catching debut in Wests Tigers' gutsy 26-16 loss to the Eels on Thursday, showing exactly the sort of toughness coach Michael Maguire craves in his players.

Blore was involved in a running battle with Nathan Brown and not only stood his ground but arguably had the better of the far more experienced and battle-hardened Eel.

"I'm just honoured he even wanted to have an argument with me!" Blore laughed after the game.

"Nathan Brown is one of the toughest players to walk on the field.

"Once he did that, it lit a fire. I'm honoured he even wanted to run it straight at me.

"I went up to him and shook his hand after the game. It was fun.

"I knew he was coming at me. I knew I put in the work so my physical the contact would have been there. I just had to put my body behind him and what happened, happened."

After one incident in which Brown took exception to a hit from Blore, the Parramatta veteran took the next carry and veered straight at the 19-year-old. Blore stood his ground and stopped Brown in his tracks.

"I thought he was going to get a short ball, I kind of hit him, he didn't get the ball, so I can understand why he got angry," Blore said.

"He sledged me. I just laughed at him. It was pretty funny.

"He said 'congratulations on the debut' [after the game] which was nice.

"I definitely didn't want to lay down. I was the new kid on the block, I wanted to take it to them and lay a platform and make a statement. I thought I did OK. It's not up to me but hopefully I can hold a spot and build on that."

Blore's debut was stretched to 46 minutes due to a nasty head knock that sent teammate Michael Chee Kam to hospital and an HIA for Sam McIntyre. The Penrith Brothers junior finished with 31 tackles and 48 metres.

It was made even more remarkable by the fact it was his first competitive match in over a year thanks to a knee reconstruction, compounded by the absence of lower-grade games.

"It's been a tough little road coming back from an ACL, there were a lot of doubts," Blore said.

"I was in rehab the whole pre-season. I kind of got lost but Madge picked me up.

"It's been a long time since I've played a game. Once I blew out the cobwebs, I was pretty gassed in that first five minutes but I found my second wind. I knew I put in the work. It's all confidence, it's all in the head."

It was tough for the Penrith junior to ask coach Ivan Cleary for a release earlier in the year.

"It was weird how it came about. I knew it was always going to be tough getting into that Penrith team," Blore said.

"Madge called me and said there was an opportunity here, and I couldn't knock it back. Ivan was all for it and he understood.

"Penrith was my home, but the Tigers have made me feel like I'm family. That's something I'll never forget. I'm truly part of a family."

Blore only found out the day before the game that he would be making his debut but still had time to get plenty of family and friends into Bankwest Stadium.

"They told me at captain's run during video. I got pretty emotional," he said.

"They didn't say anything beforehand. Madge got up and said, 'Shawn, you'll be debuting this week'.

"I couldn't hold in the emotions. I burst into tears. A few of the boys shook my hand and embraced me. It was awesome."

Him going over to Brown the second the game was over to shake hands with a smile on his face showed alot of character for a young kid.

We have a good one here and with Madge style this kid could have a good future with us (trying not to get to ahead after half a game of minutes played).

**As far as rising stars go, Shawn Blore nears the top of the list.**

The Penrith Brothers junior has an impressive junior representative resume, with his most recent achievement being selection in the Junior Kangaroos team two years young. As a developing forward that is quite an achievement.

NSW Under-18s coach Mark O’Meley described Blore as a natural leader earlier this year, and said that he has NRL written all over him. He pulled off a tackle in the Under-18s Origin game on his own line that stopped a certain try, it was the definition of an ‘Origin play’.

For the Panthers, there is not much more that Blore could have achieved in 2018.

He captained the SG Ball team to a premiership and then backed it up a week later to lead the side to the National Championship in Queensland. He then graduated to the Jersey Flegg team where he played nine games, and even made three appearances in the Intrust Super Premiership NSW.

Despite being one of the better players for his age in the country, Blore said that he is an open book when it comes to learning, progression and development when speaking to NSWRL.com.au earlier in the year.

“I probably just try to better myself as a person, off the field more than on it,” Blore said.

“In team meetings, at training, in groups, I always try to keep the talk up, just trying to improve my leadership qualities.

“That’s always something that the coach is looking for.”

Blore is progressing into an NRL player and given his small taste of senior football last year, he may turn out in the Intrust Super Premiership for most of next year. The last two NSW Under-18s captains (Cameron Murray and Payne Haas) went on to debut for their team the next year, so an NRL appearance may not be too far away for Shawn Blore.

Love the kid. A shame when McQueen was picked ahead of him last week. He needs to be in the 17 every week for the rest of the season. And get him a contract extension to 2025.
He offers more than McIntyre, mck, McQueen and really every other forward we have. We have lots of workers. We lack aggression and intimidation. He HAS to be there from now on

This is why stats are so misleading. He was actually stinging blokes in defense (I think he got Paulo good aswell) not to mention he stood up brown twice. Doing that on your debut is no easy feat

I disagree. These blokes play footy together. Most of my close mates are from my uni rugby days. Even though playing footy is their profession, I'm sure a lot are mates outside of footy.

Blore is bound to be mates with a few Panthers who are looking for an opportunity, like him.

They don't have to be Panthers, he's played and captain rep teams, they'll do.

Mate every player in our side is mates with someone or other at another club, as is the coach and all the assistant coaches.

Same any player who played for us is just as capable of referring players OUT of Tigers.

Not really a thing to be putting forward as a special case for anyone. So yeah maybe Blore can speak to his Panthers mates, maybe Benji and Madge can chat to all the Kiwis, maybe Stefano can talk to the Eels boys with Aloiai and Twal, Mbye can pick up the phone to the Doggies, Doueihi can call up Souths, we've got the Leilua bros covering Saints and Raiders, McIntyre a Knights junior, Huth is from Penrith too. Heck Harry Grant should call up all his Storm mates. Is there a club we've left off the list?

Last time we had a mad link to a player his Dad ended up leaving US.

I was under the impression BJ spoke to Lucy before signing with us, and it was Lucy's positive comments about culture etc that lead to BJ signing.

All I'm saying (hoping) is that there might be a few disgruntled players at the Panthers that might reach out to Shawn for similar advice.

Luciano himself said Nofa talked to him about joining the tigers in the Samoan camp and he liked the sound of it and it helped him come over. Luciano definitely helped get his brother over too.

Players definitely talk to each other about it they’ve admitted as much

Let's hope Luciano has a chat to the Feagai bros who are both very talented outside backs at the Dragons and of Samoan descent. Both played for the Aust Schools team and are originally from the Riverina.
