good point Knuckles
I for one believe that he is a massive stabilizing force within the club and that is something that is very hard to come by.
Now don't get me wrong, I firmly believe that if we do miss the finals this year then he should be tapped on the shoulder, but I doubt that we will miss the finals, in fact quite the opposite. Watch as players start to line up to play alongside our already strong squad and respectable coach.
It is easy - and fair - to argue against his tactics and selections. It is reasonable to question his tactics and selections and it's not a stupid thing to suggest that he's had enough of a chance already.
But casual assumptions that the team would have made the finals for the past few years but only missed out because of Sheens are wrong. Again, casual assumptions that the team would miraculously be in the top 4 if there was another coach is just plain wrong.
These are assumptions that only serve the purpose of the position that the moths take and, I'm sorry, it's just wrong.
At no stage do any of the arguments put forward by the moths take into consideration the financial mess that the club has been in for the past decade (only now getting better - see RL Summertime where they said Sheens and Royce painted the gym themselves!) and the mismanagement of Noyce.
We should have made the finals once in the past few years, yes, but looking at our squad depth today I think it's pretty clear that we are finals bound for the next few years straight and that's something that Sheens has been working on (I could find a gazzilion quotes) and should be given credit for.
Excellent post. People also forget nobody wanted the job when Sheens took over. Two other blokes rejected it and with-in three years he won a premiership. I think it's perfectly reasonable to question decisions he makes but at the end of the day he's turned the club from a laughing stock where nobody other than juniors and rejects wanted to play into a respected unit that attracts internationals like Tuqiri and Cayless.
I don't defend every move he makes and I get frustrated sometimes too but I also give him a lot of credit for what he's achieved.
We should have pushed harder for one applicant. A gentleman by the name of Craig Bellamy.
