Sheens future Safe at Wests Tigers

Given your general negativity towards certain WT staff, I thought it may well be the straw that breaks your back if Sheens is re-signed.

My negativity ??

Realism. Let's assess my `negativity' towards certain club staff:
1\. Sheens - Bats at 38% since the superleague. 1 finals series in 15 years. 44% win rate with us. Replaced S Prince with J Morris and persisted with this for 3 years. Garbage use of the bench for year's on end. Cost his captain a Dally M when he moved him to 1/2 to make up for his garbage recruitment.

2\. Royce - has the side copping 4 tries a game for 7 yrs on end. Defensive coach whose greatest achievement was bringing a spoon to Penrith. Arranges the witches hats, and pushes off the flying fox. What does he do, because it is obvious he doesn't teach tackling or wrapping the ball up.

3\. Dr Kuah - put a player in hospital with a punctured lung. Has incapacitated 4 players in 3 yrs. We are struggling to find a Dr that has had it happen once. He must be very unlucky …

4\. Ronald I mean Warren McDonnell - signed his son on the back of a 3/22 win rate. Delivered us Slammin Sam Harris, jennifer Lopez, Ryan O'Hara and Peter Lewis who wanted to play origin but ended up playing for the Oberon Obelisks in Group 36\. Famously remarked `I thought we had him' when Ma'a Nonu knocked us back. Charged with recruiting a 1/2 back to replace Prince, he delivered us J Morris who (until he played with us) had had as many NRL first grade starts in the 7 as me, Eddie, fergie, alwaysownyou and hybrid tiger. Famously once told me he could sign Mullen, Monaghan, Finch ... gave us Morris.

What reasons, but not excuses will the great man trot out this week ??

What would you have done ?
I'm not sure Scott Prince would have come to Wests Tigers in the first place had Tim Sheens not been the coach.

Interesting slant of statistics on the win ratio Mulvi. Making it to specifically not include his earlier years of success but to include his time with the Cowboys. Bravo.

Sheens time with us has been a mixed basket for mine. His legacy to Wests Tigers will be the amount of players he has actually developed in his time with us and made them true students of the game. That in itself is a major achievment.

Personally this is the first squad since 2006 which I have believed to be genuine title contenders.

Yeah smeg this is not the first time ive heard guys including his cowboys stint in the stats and not including his time at penrith and canberra who he built from scratch with no bottomless pit of money like bennett had at the broncos for 20 years.Thank christ someones setting this rubbish straight.

Sheens time at the cowboys was made alot harder by board members telling him who he can buy and promote into first grade which is why he said in a interview in 03 that you have to be mad to let anyone else pick your team or buy players and im sure after that stint there he made sure that would not happen again.Ask the guy yourselfs with the same so called passion you show on here.

Its amazing how many times ive seen this thread over and over and its only round 2 that pretty sad .

Its not passion its just stupid when something doesnt go their way they cry about it.

You know what makes me laugh is when i hear people say oh we can get brown or lang ,kearney and even stuart or smith and between them all they still havent been as successful as sheens and im basing this on winning the grand final which is what they play for not to come 7th or 9th.

yeah the players want to play semi final football but they all strive to win the grand final and so do the coaches and thats the point i was trying to make.

Who run 7th in 2009 no body remembers.

Difference between 7th and 9th is 1 week of football big deal in my opinion

To be honest making the top 8 is the minimum acceptance level for a coach over the last 4 years we have failed. If we dont make it this year and make at least the prelim gf then major changes have to be made to the coaching staff.

just my opinion

According to Channel 9 Sheens has come to a 1 year contract extension!!!

OMG For all the good things this club has done, have just been reversed. Absolutely disgraceful. It seems loyalty is more important than winning in this club. JOKE!!!!!!!!!

i think ull will find that is all Sheens wanted.. no more then that.. if we dont produce he will leave the club on his own admission… if we become a team that is to be a Top 4 every year we may see him for another 2 years..

Good news i rekon...

sounds good to me.
Sounds like he's giving the fans what they want in a bit of accountability.
If the team doesn't perform he'll walk away.. if they do he could stay on.. sounds reasonable enough.
and as long as the players put in efforts like they did tonight I don't doubt that we won't be seeing him around for a few more years yet.

Did Channel 9 say Sheens has extended til 2012?????????????????????????/

ye resigned until end of 2011

Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens extends stay at joint-venture club
>
By David Beniuk
March 26, 2010
>
Tim Sheens will remain at the helm of the Wests Tigers until the end of 2011 after extending his contract with the NRL club for a further 12 months.
>
The NRL's longest-serving coach, having overseen 595 games and won four premierships since debuting with Penrith in 1984, the 59-year-old says he will quit if success doesn't come in the next two seasons.
>
"I asked for a year, not any longer than that, to work with this group,'' he said after Wests Tigers' 23-12 win over Parramatta.
>
"If I can't get it to happen then I won't be here and I'd stand down myself on that basis.''
>
He said the move would remove speculation about the job, which had been linked to Cronulla coach Ricky Stuart.
>
"We're not thinking this year about who's going to be coaching and the speculation, which this season doesn't need,'' he said.
>
'' … It doesn't guarantee I'm going to be there, we've still got to do the job.''
>
Sheens said the deal had been done on Friday afternoon over coffee with Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys.
>
Humphreys agreed Sheens' request for only a 12-month extension meant he had squarely put the pressure on himself to succeed.
>
"I read a bit into that,'' he said.
>
"Tim understands better than anyone that this is a results-orientated business.
>
"We know we need to take that next step and I think he is challenging himself somewhat in that.''
>
Humphreys said Sheens, who guided the Tigers to an inaugural premiership in 2005 but has failed to take them to the finals since, had an ability to stay fresh despite his 26 years at Penrith, Canberra, North Queensland and the Tigers.
>
"I really don't think it's an age thing with Tim because mentally I think he's the youngest senior executive we've got around the place because he keeps himself very fresh,'' Humphreys said.
>
Captain Robbie Farah also welcomed the signing, which comes on top of those of Benji Marshall, Keith Galloway and Robert Lui this year.
>
"Tim's a coach that all of us players respect and he's a reason why a lot of us have re-signed,'' Farah said.
>
"It gives the club great stability.''
