Sheens future Safe at Wests Tigers

in a perfect world you would like to be able to wait and see how this season goes, but let's be realistic.
coaches and players want their future sewn up well before the club would ideally like.

waiting to see if we make the finals is not a realistic approach.
players would also like to know who their coach will be when trying to re-sign or poach from another club.they want to see what direction the club is heading.
when we had the june 30 rule you could afford to wait a little longer even though the june 30 rule didn't always get enforced.

you don't run a successful club by sitting on your hands and waiting.

Lets Be realistic.

Tim Sheens will be resigned very shortly.

Coaching change affects recruitment and this will not be fumbled with under this administration.

If Sheens is on the Market, Canberra, Penrith will be sniffing…

That's true but we have missed the finals for the last 4 years so he shouldn't expect anything better. We should wait till midseason and see how we are travelling. Most clubs wouldn't keep a coach that has missed the finals for 4 years. It's not like we are so desperate and don't have other options if he doesn't like it.

but in saying all this that sheens hasnt delivered up to expectations since 2005 blah blah blah…... apart from melbourne and manly who else has one a premeriship since 2005? and out of melbourne, manly and tigers....we were the only team on paper that shouldnt have been there and even up until this season still shouldnt have been there.

They say a tradesman should never blame his tools but since 05 i think he can, had no depth in his squad (had maybe a strong starting squad at the most) the facilites have picked up and the training staff have picked up this year. ( plus we havnt had a halfback or regular fullback for a while)

I really think two seasons should be given too him, this year to gel next year to kill it, I cant see the big deal in making the top 8 and crashing out, its more painful to be honest, either win it all or dont! Lol

That has been said the last few seasons. It's always a "rebuilding" year and it's always next year that will be the big year. I don't expect a premiership every year but we should be making the finals more than we are. It's not like we have had terrible squads of players in the last half decade.

ohh yeah thanks mate forgot about that! lol again in saying that out of those four teams we were the the only team to do when we shouldnt have as those three teams did have the squads to do it,

again not a bad record only four coaches and teams have one a premiership in the last five years and that does include the tigs and sheens, after that the club went pear shaped in my eyes but now i think it is all back on track!!

then why wait.
if you are a board member you should know if sheens is the man or not.
they know what the salary cap looks like, they know how much money is being spent on the football department.
if a board member doesn't know if sheens is up to it or not, they should not hold a position on the wests tigers board.
after 6 years with sheens you would hope our board have a an idea on what sheens is capable of.i doubt waiting a few months will suddenly bring clarity.

make a decision one way or the other and get on with the job of supporting sheens or finding the best coach for the job.

Wests Tigers Board and Clarity…........sorry...... but that's Hilarious....

I agree....that the decision needs to be made a lot earlier than mid Season....

If Sheens has the 'full support of the board'....why not extend his contact for a futher 2 Years ,,,if not...Find the replacement now.......... so Recruitment and retention can be continued for 2011..........

Sheens has my complete support.

He has taken our sorry club and has turned it into a real power.

IMO we have the best coaching staff in the comp, and possibly the best team.

Definitely the best plays/moves.

I wouldnt swap Sheens with anyone and should go out(if ever) on his own terms.

IMO we're not going to be a real power until we start doing well on the field every season.

And I know there are some good signs for the upcoming season but how can you say that we have the best coaching staff and possibly the best team after we finished 9th and havnt made the finals in 4 seasons? Or missed out on finals 6 out of 7 seasons with this coaching staff.

Maybe we have had the best set plays/moves, but I cant say the same about our defence, mental strength, attitude (Last year as an exception), team selections or even our medical staff handling the players injuries.
And to me that all falls back onto the coaching staff because despite many players leaving and coming into the club, nothing has really changed… As of yet, I hope this year is different and I get proved wrong.

I'm not saying we will miss the finals this year but if we do miss the top 8 should Sheens coach the Wests Tigers in 2011?

If we are going to dredge up the best, rememeber how bad it was pre -Sheens.

What a rabble and not even finals worthy.

We have great juniors, and IMO seem to be moving in the right direction on and off the field.

I think Sheens has us tuned for a stellar year this year…....when he took over the club he had a lot of guys that had already been bought, now he has it preened just to his liking, with a great mix of old and young.

IMO peeps are way to harsh on Sheensie.

He came to the club in 2003\. It has taken him 7 years to get the squad to his liking? DAMN! :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah things are better than what they used to be before he came here but things could be better on the field. We do have a good club image because he doesn't put up with the bad stuff from the players off the field like some of younger coaches do and they do alot of things for charity which is good. Why haven't we made the finals though for the last 4 years? I'm not saying it's all Sheens fault but he has to take most responsibility for it. It's not like our squads haven't been top 8 material in the last 4 years. I just don't think he is as good as you think he is. I don't think I am being unfair or too negative at all. I just think we should be making the finals atleast once in every 2 years. This year has to be his last chance. If we sign him early this year and we don't make the finals we will be stuck with a coach that hasn't made the finals in half a decade.

But who won us a comp with a team of no one.

Our fullback, five eighth, halfback and hooker were as good as anyone in the world in their positions. I wouldn't say they were a team of nobodys. Those players were the spine of our attack and played alot of games in a row together because of the lack of injuries we had to those important players in the second half of 2005\. We got on a roll and nothing could stop us except for injuries. Sheens did a fantastic job that year but that was 5 years ago and it doesn't mean it is best for our club to keep him after 2010\. If we miss the finals for the 5th season in a row then I think it is time for him to move on. I think Kearney would have learnt alot under Bellamy and he would want a shot at getting the top job at a NRL club. I think he could be the best man to lead our club into the new decade.

That's not nice saying I rag on him. It's nothing personal. I just want what is best for Wests Tigers and sometimes a team can get a bit stale when a coach is kept for too long. He has been here since 2003\. The main thing I am concerned with is we haven't made the finals in 4 years when we had a squad each of those years that should have made the top 8.

Hear, hear.

Those who ask for the sack for the only person who has brought either of the joint venture clubs a premiership in the last 45 odd years make me laugh. Of course, we would like more and we would like to make the semis every year but I cannot ask for the sack of the coach who helped fulfill one of my life's dreams.
