Sheens says Lui reminds me of a young Cliff Lyons

He reminds me more of Jason Smith, or Owen Craigie on a good day.

Did Owen Craigie have a good day ???

Many very good judges rated craigie as one of the best players around, consistency and his weight were his problems.

Sorry Ink must of missed those games I can remember the 2nd half in the Newcastle miracle come back and that is it
Potential only gets you in the front door
Consistancy keeps you on the lounge

Owne Craigie was a freak as a kid, I saw him play alot in juniors, he was only or 2 years older than me, he was crazy good. The best i've seen. I reckon most people around about my age who were running round in junior reps would say the same.

He played 3 years of Aus Schoolboys, pretty sure he is the only one to do that (dont quote me tho)

He had lots of good days, unfortuately being the worse trainer in the world, he never got anywhere near his potential and people remember him as the lazy overweight player that finished his career, not the talent he was at newcastle. Sad really.

Tell you what he does do well..takes the line on and often makes more yards forward than backwards not many halves around at the moment that can do that…if he keeps working on his defence he could rate among the better ones over the next few years..I think the last 5 weeks his improvement all round has made a big difference...

P.S Shifty Sheens is very smart talking him up..it would do his confidants a world of good.

Sheens was right about one thing - he can't read where he's supposed to be or who to take out when the ball is in motion.
He can (usually) tackle someone if they run into him but his shirt grabbing has been because of his inability to position himself properly when the opposition is promoting the ball.
They seem to have kept him in closer, or his minders have been protecting him better , over the last few weeks so this hasn't happened as much.
I have been one of his most vocal critics (regarding his poor defence) all year but for the sake of the team hopes he keeps hanging in and finding improvement.
I think Farah finding real form has made both him and the whole team lift.
As for being like a young Cliff Lyons?
Only Sheens would make that odd comparison - they are nothing alike (at least at the moment)

I think what Tim is referring to is that neither Rob or Cliffy had blinding acceleration or were overly strong etc. They beat defences with guile and slide of hand.

I think they both have something that cannot be coached and that is vision.

The comparison is actually fairly accurate when considered in those terms

Maybe right about the speed coopy but I think Lyons (was )and Lui are deceptively strong players.
But comparing his abilty with a even a young Cliff Lyons is a bit of a stretch at the moment.
Remember he won the Dally M twice!
Funnily enough Sheens compares him to a five eighth and not a half because plenty of people on here say five eigth is his best position.

Sheensy does love a comparison, but tell me he didn't really compare John Morris to Cooper Cronk

Yeah he did.

He sure did Goose…I think it was when we signed him to replace Prince....and Sheens said he sees Morris as the "next Cooper Cronk"..in reference to manufacturing a halfback from another position.

Sheens is funny in that on the one hand he is always trying to deflect pressure from his players then on the other he makes these type of comparisons that can only put pressure on that player to live up to the comparison.

I find it amusing that Some people still mention Lui is a better 5/8.
Has nobody ever noticed our 6,7 & 9 Rotation? 😱pen_mouth:
Rob Lui is quite often second reciever….
It is our game structure and it fits him perfectly.
Call it if it's on, Play it if he sees it....
Beautiful to watch!!

Joey Johns claimed Owie to be the most naturally gifted player he played with…
Big call from one of, if not the games best!!

Not sure about the Lui comparison but I agree wholeheartedly with Sheens about Woods having a footy brain. I've noticed this over the last few games, he is very aware of what is going on around him and looks to make the right decision when defending or making the hit-up.

Yes he has been pinged for a silly penalty here and there, but that should be easy to get out of his game. Having a footy brain is not something you can usually teach - watch him closely and you'll see what I mean. Very good for a young fella, he is not overawed at all.
