Short of Props.

Article from Aug on Gavet:

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/hasler-set-to-unleash-star-recruit-20120811-24185.html
BULLDOGS coach Des Hasler is expected to unleash a Samoan beast against Brisbane today with rugged forward James Gavet on standby to replace Canterbury's star English import James Graham.
>
Graham, whose work rate and skill has established him as an invaluable member of the Dogs pack, had battled a knee injury he suffered against Newcastle and was placed on restricted duties throughout the week.
>
It was believed Hasler would most likely opt to blood Gavet in his top-grade debut rather than expose Graham, 26, to the risk of aggravating his injury.
>
Bulldogs insiders have raved about the strength and the potential of the 22-year-old Gavet, who was Hasler's first recruit when he left the Sea Eagles for Canterbury after he masterminded Manly's 2011 premiership victory.
\
\
Hasler's decision to recruit Gavet, whose development was frustrated by a broken bone when he played for the Warriors' Toyota Cup squad, was described as an example of his ''long range'' approach to success.
>
''Des wanted me to come to Manly at the beginning of 2011, and I turned him down, but then at the end of the year I ended up making the move because he wanted me to come across,'' Gavet told the Herald in April.
>
''Then he told me he was moving across to the Bulldogs a year later anyway, so he said 'you might as well go and sign there for two years', and he would see me here. But he came a year early so it has been a blessing.''
>
Gavet, like others who had been coached by Hasler over the years, extolled his virtues as a mentor.
>
''Des is seriously, seriously football mad,'' Gavet said. ''You learn so much from people that are on that level, and off the pitch he is the easiest guy to get along with.''
>
Standing 186 centimetres and weighing 108 kilograms, the former rugby union player was placed on standby for his top-grade debut on a number of occasions this season after he had monstered opponents for the Barry Ward-coached NSW Cup side.
>
His career was stalled when a bone in his lower leg split and needed a screw to piece it back together. Complications delayed its healing.
>
His brute strength has excited many Bulldogs insiders, who have described it as ''extraordinary' and ''frightening''.
>
Halfback Kris Keating, who has not taken the field since he injured his hamstring against Manly three weeks ago, was expected to return to action for Canterbury today.

Not a huge prop by modern standards but it seems he gets some wraps on outright strength.

had a quick look at the bulldogs kennell , it read in parts great line speed , second rower or prop , great gym work , attacking prop , good offloads , ( runs hard every time ) similar player to Taupau , highly rated by Des , Kearney , Dymock , Sheens ,

So if he's so hot … Why did they release him ... Obviously not considered one of their top 5 props.

He was next cab off the rank at Dogs with Graham being out for 1st 8 weeks due to biting incident. That coupled with Mad Monday debacle has meant zero tolerance to any off-field discretion from players.

Some hope for Tigers if talks go well.

Discipline issues apparently. Late the training, forgetting training gear, turning up with a hurt hand after getting into fights at bars etc.

Oh, so he's one of them

he was rated right up there by fans and coaches , needs a potter hard approach and blair and marshall with him may just work

Don't know if this is just me but reading that linked thread on the Bulldogs site made me suddenly feel very very cheap indeed …
I'd even goes as far as to say, DIRTY.

Also, a dramatic intelligence quotient drop made one of normally sturdy equilibrium feel quite light headed and ridiculously dopey ...

God it's good to be home

bulldogs blue and white forum says tigers have signed james gavat , he has been removed from bulldogs info and team photos

I've read somewhere that Dogs fans thought he was gunna be a big Kiwi unit, but when they saw him said he was in the skinny second rower/prop mould but had some serious strength.

I wish we could steal that Kane/Kade? Evans from the Roosters.

186cms @108kg which isn't too bad.

10-15 years ago that was basically your standard NRL prop.

jesus there are two props at penrith who do not seem very happy grab one or both of them ,mackendry or grant.

I was dissapointed when the dogs snatched him from under our noes a couple of years ago. I look forward to getting him (if true) and seeing how he goes.
