Signing Rumours..

Does it not have more to do with our Top 25 and the Players that currently occupy that.
We lost Cherrington - Replaced with Liddle.
We lost Farah and Halatal - Signed Mcllwrick.
Then you add into our first grade side Filise and Masters.

Ado Car has gone but he wasn't signed on first tier.

That means we still have to move on two of our first Tier players for Idris to be signed to a first grade contract and for Taylor to be re-signed.

Otherwise both would be signed on 2nd tier contracts.

If I am incorrect with this can someone explain otherwise.

Couldn't afford Cleary or didn't think he was worth that much?
Or weren't interested at all?

In one of TT's post he said we were in talks with Cleary but his asking price was much higher than we were willing to pay. Paying out Taylor wouldnt be much of a problem, isnt he the lowest paid coach.

Yep, for the team with the lowest budget

If that's the case (lowest paid coach and lowest budget ) and we ended up one point off finals then for me we are going really well.

Makes me happy to think how we will go when our budget improves in the not too distant future.

some players could say be on 90k for 2 years, in the first year they are in the top 25, that does nto necessaraly mean that they will be in the top 25 for the next year as other players could get contract upgrades
( i think thats how it works )
it appears that masters, paseka and felise will all be added to the top 25 next year.
farah, cherrington will drop out
milone, hunt, siro, rankin, grant, naiqama have all been liked with other clubs or in milones case retiring

if we lose kev and gain idris its a pretty big win imo

only problem for me is that it probably means rankin has a mortgage on the 2 for the year. our three quarter depth is very poor.

I'd assume that the money free'd up by Kev leaving (if he does) would help pay for Idris and possibly be enough to get ET over the line. If Rankin is trying to be offloaded we wouldn't need to spend anymore then 100k or so to get an upgrade on his talents on the wing. Maybe Papenhuyzen will try to be brought on sooner then planned if he develops a bit more physically over the off sesason. That is more thinking out loud…

All I know is that Rankin on the wing is not the answer and there are half a dozen blokes off contract that would be an upgrade around the same price.

Charlie Taylor to debut on wing?

I wouldn't be against Taylor getting a red hot go in the pre season. He is strong on his feet which is essential for wingers bringing the ball out of their own end, is quick and has that football instinct. Being only 21 I think he will fill out into his body a bit more too so could be a solid option.

We have to do something, another year of Rankin plodding up and down the wing won't get us near the 8.

I think Taylor is a muppet but I wouldn't be rushing in to pay someone more money that may also be a muppet.

We need to be smart with our signings. I'm hopeful that Taylor has learned from his mistakes and if he stuffs up again next year I think we should look for a smart signing when it comes to the coach. Players and coaches shouldn't hold us to ransom anymore.

If we sign Jamal Idris would we want to play him centre. Then we would have to probably shift Naiqama to the wing to replace Rankin. I wouldn't mind seeing Jamal playing in the second-row.

He would be a great signing for the club and it doesn't really matter where he plays as long as he is in the starting 13.

If I was coach I would play him centre.

Tigers problem when it comes to signing new players is that we don't go searching for new players. We don't buy big name players that opposition are aware of and fear. We also don't hold on to our good players. We either need to secure our good players or scout for good players from the competition. This problem has been going on for years. :dead

At this stage we'll only be replacing him with another plodder, so it's not going to make us any better on that wing. And Rankin kicks goals, taking pressure off Moses. Might as well stick with him.

Didn't Geo say that Idris was off the table in a round about way

Fox Sports have reported that the Wests Tigers are confident Elijah Taylor re-sign with the club rejecting all Rugby Union offers.

don't know if this has been discussed. from Fox:

We hear Melbourne made a little play for a certain Tigers player.

Ultimately they couldn’t afford him and he wasn’t willing to take ‘unders’ to leave and is still contracted to the club.

Here’s a hint as to who it could be … he’s not an outside back or half.

No… i said Official deals aren't Official until they are Officially announced..

Same goes with McIlwrick ...every one assumes it's done cause Media puts it up as 'Official'...

This is what it says on Jamal Idris' wikipedi page:

2015-16
In 2015 Idris took a break from his sporting career. In 2016 he escaped a kidnap attempt in Vietnam, opened an orphanage in Ghana and joined Group three rugby league club Wingham Tigers.

2017
On 27 September 2016, Idris signed a one-year deal with the Wests Tigers after one year break from the NRL.

I'd be happy to keep Naiqama on the wing if we lock Idris in. His decision making in defence will be far less pivotal there. Tell him to stick to the outside man and that's it. His power and speed will make him an effective finisher.

Sorry I thought the emphasis you placed on the Off…. was meaning it was Off

Greg Bird released from Titans Official , where will he end up

Probably Dragons, Rabbitohs or Knights. I see those three teams needing a bit of experience to help their young upcoming talent.

Plus Souths would happily accept a grub like him, Dragons would take anyone and Knights need to try and find 17 players to sign for the club

I personally think he will wear the Red V in 2017
