Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

the dragons are ripe for the picking… as are the Roosters and Panthers. anyone not already signed for these clubs will be easy targets.
i'm sure Ivan will get his timing right and wait for the right player and the right price.

Now the rabbits are going to make a play for Latrell…what is wrong with Ivan has he got rocks in his head...I'm going to be very disappointed if we don't at least offer him a contract...we have $ and we need a fullback seriously case closed

I'm not being racist here but the Rabbits are a favorite with the indigenous population.
It's a Redfern thing. They all want to play there.

Money is always more important than playing at Redfern

The Bunnies has GI and AJ who play fullback. We can offer the fullback position and also you would think with our salary cap we would be offering competitive dollars.

Another left field Suggestion but what about Karmichael Hunt….. I know hes aging a bit now but hes still only 30 I think. Has been killing it in rugby as of late, could be handy for a year or 2 until we get someone else. Hes in talks with extending his stay with the REDS but if we could swoop in, Would probably ask for to much $$$$ though.

"Hunt said Super Rugby contracts for next season would be scarce with an influx of players from the axed franchise but has ruled out yet another code switch in 2018.

“My body has had enough of the transitions” Hunt said.

“I am pretty comfortable at 94kg and playing."

They do seem to have a proud indigenous history, but I agree money would be more important.

Latrell is rumoured to have some attitude issues, or he may not fit in with Ivan's strategy so maybe he is giving him a wide berth. He's been rather astute with his signings thus far so I'll give Crazy the benefit of the doubt.

I think he might have got his attitude from a team he carried last year trying to push him into the centres making way for Tedesco who they new was already coming…I wouldn't be happy either..roosters aren't going to tell you why he has an attitude

Keep an eye out for Manly centre Tevita Funa.

A goal kicker who played his junior footy with Tigers gun Moses Suli, Funa has plenty of buzz around him.

Having caught the eye of the Roosters and Tigers, the 18-year-old is turning 19 this year and had been tearing up the NYC before suffering a knee injury.

Funa started the year with five tries and 13 goals from three Holden Cup games — tallying an impressive 46 points.

He’d also made 20 tackle breaks and 394 running metres in his three games in 2017.

Funa will return from injury mid-season.

Will Chambers is Cronulla's public enemy No.1 after indulging in a sledging match with several key players a few weeks back.

But could all be about to be forgiven?

There's been more than the odd whisper coming out of the Shire that the Sharks are keen on Chambers as a replacement for Jack Bird.

"I've got no doubt Flanno will make a play for Chambers," a very well-placed Shire source told The Repeat Set this week.

The cashed-up Sharks may also take a look at James Roberts and Dane Gagai.

The Canberra Raiders are excited to announce the signing of Fijian Rugby Sevens Olympic gold medallist, Masivesi Dakuwaqa. Dakuwaqa's contract will see him join the Raiders for the remainder of the year.

Dakuwaqa played rugby league in Fiji until 17 years of age, before successfully switching to rugby union and making his international debut for the Fijian Sevens side last year.

A string of strong performances in Sevens' tournaments secured Dakuwaqa his spot on the plane to Rio, where he played a key role in Fiji's landmark first Olympic gold medal.

Having only arrived in Canberra yesterday, Dakuwaqa said he was looking forward to starting training with the team.
check him out!

I am starting to worry that there won't be anymore big name signings, just paying overs for fringe players. It may be worth taking the Newcastle approach and put the money away until other clubs need to shed players to comply with the cap or true talent becomes available

From James Pooper - Market Watch
WESTS Tigers have started splashing the cash to rebuild the club following the devastating departures of Aaron Woods, James Tedesco and Mitchell Moses with Dragons prop Russell Packer the club’s latest big money target.

Reporting for NRL Tonight, Fox Sports’ chief NRL reporter James Hooper has revealed the Tigers have tabled a massive four-year-deal in an attempt to lure Packer to Concord to join close mate Ben Matulino in the front row for 2018 and beyond.

“The Tigers have tabled a four-year-deal worth about $700,000-a-season,” Hooper told NRL Tonight.

“The Dragons are only offering a three-year-deal.”

St George Illawarra’s offer is understood to be worth about $100,000-a-season less than the Tigers’ offer, giving Cleary the inside running to secure one of the NRL’s best redemption stories.

According to Hooper, the Tigers are also continuing their chase of out-of-favour Warriors utility Tui Lolohea, and have secured two Super League signings.

Hooper said the Tigers had finalised deals to bring former Storm centre Mahe Fonua and former Bulldogs winger Corey Thompson to the club for 2018.

Bulldogs star Josh Reynolds and the Warriors’ Matulino have already been announced by the Tigers after Cleary moved quickly to replace his three big name departures

Hooper loves the massive contract, huge contract scoop when talking about the WestsTigers, $700k a season I think is probably a bad guess James..

Pretty sure he just quotes that figure for all his so called articles ?

Hooper tends to overstate contract values. I seem to recall he was the one that quoted Reynolds at $900k a season, and Moses at $1M per season. Maybe he gets more clicks that way, but it is irresponsible for a journalist to sensationalise numbers to sell news.

Ch9 reporting Moses could go to Eels as early as Wednesday. I don't know if Eels are attempting to pressure WTs but I'd say play him wherever until the Eels cough up a player we want. That's business Isaac.

We'd be foolish if we released Moses without a player swap.
We have already paid half of his contract this year so there is little monetary gain for us.

If his form drops because of sooking, drop him. Simples
