Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

But we can give him an upgraded contract for 2025 and 2026 (only if he extends)
i get the impression he would love to stay a 1 team wonder ,that kid is switched on .Wouldn't surprise me either if he walked away to back pack his way for a few years

Looks like Hetherington might start at 13 with Carrigan going to prop. If that happens then Kobe won't go anywhere. The only way we get him is of he plays 20-25min off the bench all year.

I agree with u 100% , even if the forced his hand u don’t don’t let people walk unless u are 100% certain that u have a replacement lined up
But I don't think that's what happened here.
At all.

The whole Papalii thing was "I don't want to be here in a bottom team. But my manager wants me to sign a fat contract".
The whole Bateman thing seems to be "I am going to tell Marshall what to do and he seems like an amatuer coach".

In all those plus Stef, I don't think we were in the drivers seat. We may have wanted Bateman gone due to high salary/cap space/lack of performance. But it wasn't our driving and we don't have a 2RF lined up for his spot.

Honestly, I think it's all an accident:
Turuva/Skelton - We need a winger, your free lets make an offer.
Luai - prime half becomes available and remembers us offering large money to Moses.
May - surplus to roosters requirements.

I agree with your thrust "you can let a player go, if you have someone better coming" Wayne Bennett.

Look, we seem to have some great players coming our way. But it doesn't seem very planned too me.

Yes u can say Richo has done a good job, but what puzzles me is why we have left ourselves so light on in the backrow , getting rid of papa without having a ready made signing is dum , then pushing Bateman out and again no replacement, SO for all the great work Richo has done , leaving us with no depth in the backrow and lock , will come back to bit us as the season goes on . A couple of injuries and we have to play kids from the NSW cup , WELL we seen how they preformed last year .
I hope Iam proved wrong but I hope I don’t have to pull this post out half way throw the season and SAY I told u so .
How did we go with Ice and Bateman last year?

I'd imagine this would be the case for at least 75% of NRL franchises.
3rd party arrangements exclude the other 25%.
Until 3rd party arrangements are monitored, there's never a level playing field across all cubs re recruitment opportunities and planning.

Well look at it this way , how do u think we will go with the very average players we have to pick from out of that disgraceful NSW CUP team of last year , they spent more time standing behind there try line , than playing .
Does that answer ur question 🥴

It’s a game of opportunity.
Seyfarth deservedly gets his chance to prove he is a good quality NRL starting right edge forward,
Hopefully he takes his opportunity and makes the position his own, but if he doesn’t nail it there will be other young up and comers from within our own club and outside, willing and ready to take his spot.
It would be nice to have at least one bigger name more established edge back rower in our squad, but opportunity often takes players to greater heights.
It is impossible to predict how quickly emerging younger players become NRL ready, some emerge at 18 or 19 years old, others take more time and do not show their potential until around 22/23 years old, some even a bit older.
It will be a very interesting watch tj see who puts their hand up and emerges for us over the next 12 to 24 months.

If Pole or Matamua is at 13 then Bird could be the older 2nd rower covering Seyfarth from the bench.
Bird would be an ideal bench player covering lock, 2nd rower, 5/8, centre.
It will only work if someone has impressed the coaching staff to start at lock or 2nd rower in the preseason

Matamua looks in tremendous shape this year,
I'm looking forward 2 see what mood he's in...
No
Would have liked to see Papalii with Jerome in 2025.
IMO, Papalii lost some pace out wide and just couldn't make the breaks like at Parra.
His defence was first class in the middle.
I don't think he will be playing out wide at the Pamfers either. A good stock standard middle forward.

If you have seen/heard his interviews, it doesn’t seem like it’s on his priority list.
Yeah it’s biz talk, he has trained well in every aspect. His live for the team is low.
His childhood team (eels) broke his heart before he was 18. The game is already just a job to him. Sure it’s a job he loves, but he’s in it for the money and glory now. We need to win games and create a fun, winning, environment he wants to be apart of.
The other thing is he is smart, dead fit and trains hard, so he gunna wanna feel like he’s always learning and being challenged, and, that the standards are at least slightly higher than his high level.

Jarome is the best thing for Galvin.

Every day this week, there have been Tigers fluff pieces in the Telegraph … today there were two …one on Bula getting married recently , and the other on Naden, who is a new man this offseason apparently and has been training the house down …( another one )

Tells me two things could be at work here …. Firstly , whoever the new media guy is at the Tigers who took over from Rabs Warren junior is working 24/7 trying to get positive news out there …. secondly… NRL might have instructed their buddies at News Ltd to write some positive stories about the Tigers for a change …
