My point is we had enough blokes who knew what they were doing to not get back to back spoons.
The 22 spoon was caused by the disruption of losing the coach mid season, having him replaced by a greenhorn coach who was not supported and in charge of an injury depleted roster that was not strong at all to start with.
The 23 and 24 spoons were different.
The 23 spoon was because we had a head coach who was trying to implement a strategy that hadn’t won a footy game since 2012 . Sure Benji coached half that season , but it’s been well stated it was sheens’ game plan , because you can’t turn whole tactics on thier head mid season . Too many players saw an easy ride and took advantage of sheens’ declining faculties , and Benjis inexperience .
24 , yea that’s a failure , Benji took the “I’m one you guys “ approach , and it back fired spectacularly. It wasn’t until he was forced to blood kids , and started to de -prioritise under performing older players , along with finding his inner arsehole as a coach , did we get any results . He once again dropped the ball in the last game by going back to relaxed approach .
I think from all accounts he’s learnt that he’s not thier mate this offseason , and first and foremost he’s thier boss .
This is where I think the most growth will come from , it’s clear it’s perform or see you later . Which is the way it should have been for a long time . Even Madge had his favourites that were head scratching at times . And we all remember the Sheens and Fitzhenry love affair , Taylor banishing Farah for a washed Ballin etc.
Sare I say it the only season where I felt this accountability was genuine , was the Cleary one . As much as we don’t talk about Voldemort .
