I said he'd be a good fit late last season and would be great for that right edge for us for 2 seasons. Good friends with Benji if that matters.

it makes plenty of sense. experienced player on decent coin in a position of need that's been moved from away from his native position. I think Newcastle would be keen to push that deal thru.

Hope so, a 1-2 year deal max with playing him at right back row to help that side defensively. Seyfarth to move to the bench for impact and cover at backrow and middle.

Penrith should be the blueprint.

They continually lose what seem to be 'key players' & just roll on with success (this year might be telling though- Luai & Fisher-Harris are big losses).

They are brilliant at this.
We all thought that losing the impact of Lenui and the excellence of Crichton coupled with the injury issues and lack of game time for Cleary and the sacking of May would be a step too far last year.
They won the comp easily.
Yes Fish and Jarome are enormous losses but they will use their remaining stars - of which there are still many - to step up and run the ship whilst Papali'i and Talagi learn the ropes.
If Cleary, Yeo, Edwards and To'o stay fit, they will be there abouts again.

The Tigers can't lose KEY guys. We WILL lose good players, if we get to be successful. You can't stop that. No amount of loyalty keeps every young man from chasing a few hundred grand extra per year.
Then you need to trust the junior factory to pump out ready made replacements to keep the ball rolling.
Galvin is great. But is he $500k per season BETTER than Latu Fainu? If we need to pay Galvin $1m per season to stick, is it better value, squad-wise, to run Luai with Latu, a ready made replacement?
Different story if there isn't a guy ready to step in (name nearly all other positions where we don't have depth).

We'll likely get 25 and 26 out of this core squad before these effects take place.
The pathways are working better but they still lag behind the top teams.
A major focus on this and we can breath a bit easier.
As it stands, we have good replacements for the whole spine. We have decent replacements for the pack. These good replacements need to become excellent. The decent replacements need to become very good.

Watching the Panthers the other night- Hassett & the other back rower that played may as well have been carved out of the same piece of stone. Liam Martin is THE type of backrower the Panthers like to have. I wouldn't be surprised if the 2 KOE options could fit his position fairly seemlessly.

Not downplaying how good Martin is. Just observing how good that club is at being covered.

Theyve still got plenty who can put them into positions to win.

It would give the Knights the cap space to re-sign, or at least try to re-sign, Pearce-Paul too.

Technically I think we can fit in Spencer assuming Klemmer is released or does not get his option. That leaves a lot less cap for the biggest priorities in the squad though - 2nd Row/Lock, Centre and Galvin extension.

It's hard to see Roosters letting Spencer go though. I'm sure they would snap Galvin up in a swap, but I reckon they would be just as willing to back themselves and waiting until November 1.

I wonder if Dragons may keep their powder dry on Klemmer hoping to snap up Leniu?
