Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Oh yeah...Buds is overs even now. I agree with that. Probably overs by 200k when we signed him and only by about 100k or so now, but still overs. We need to get out of that contract.

Heath Mason might make Bud expendable …. They still need another half though I think ….so they need to replace Bud and pay incentive money to another club for him that totals around the same money they are paying Bud now .,

Don't use Zero Tackle. They're most definitely worse than simply canvassing the major outlets. Half the time they don't even list the squad members correctly.

It truly baffles me that anybody uses them as a source for anything.

Can you link me to where anyone has mentioned $550k? I'd be interested to see how they've worded their article.

Also, that's fine for your point to stand, I'm not directly refuting that, it has some validity and I understand that perspective.

Your original comment was more a reminder of something I'd wanted to mention in general discussion on here for quite some time, which is in regards to the parroting of numbers that aren't based in reality or on anything concrete.

It is hard to use specific numbers when it comes to discussion of players' value, primarily because we don't actually know accurately what they are.

For example, some people may bring up Seyfarth as an example of good value, then quote a contract of ~350k-odd, yet, someone else will argue he's a waste of money at ~550k.

Point is, the reliance on figures as part of any discussion or point is shaky in our sport, unless there is the rare occurrence of some legitimate knowledge of a player's contract value.

Even small differences of 50/100k can swing the discussion one way or another and as fans, we have no idea whether what we're spouting is correct or not.

This is why I tried to fob you off initially …my experience generally is that people ask for references and then dismiss it when you give them one …

Have you provided any sources yourself as yet to support your argument of lesser amounts ?

To be fair …because there is no transparency with player salaries , none of us know for sure and each side can produce figures that support their side given the sheer amount of media content … the only alternative is for everyone to not discuss the issue to begin with…but because of the importance of the salary cap, thats probably not happening

Yeah if Mason is going to be the 14 or rotating with TDS, then you need someone developing underneath, although it's tough to develop 3 under 21's at the same time in the same position.

Perhaps some experience there. I just don't know who takes that job happily waiting for injuries to get game time if they are NRL capable.

So why would we be interested in Fifita then ? Have you seen him of late ? Only possibility for me would be to take him for one year on the cheap if he signs with the Bears for 2027
I watched David Fifita play near his best in a game earlier this season, then a week or two later he was dumped to Q-Cup.
I would agree he looks a bit overweight and not always demonstrating the effort required which is a concern, but he’s around 25 years of age so should be in and approaching the prime of his career and I would think it’s only a minor mental adjustment required to get him in the right mindset to be back tn his best within a short period of time.
I agree signing him is a risk, but every signing is a risk, particularly the ones on big money, but the reward could be extremely high if we signed him and got him back to playing even close to his best,
I like Samuela as a later and he’s shown promise on our left edge, but as Greg me tinned he has barely broken a tackle this season and o believe he will be more comfortable and more effective in the middle.
Our halves are a reamj g out for more impact on our edges and it should also create much more attacking opportunities for Jahream if we have tackle busting, line breaking threats on our edge.
A left and right edge combination of David Fifita and KPP is potentially the best in the NRL.

He would be a great pick up, but I can’t see him wanting to leave Queensland tbh. He will probably end up at the Cowboys or the Dolphins, maybe even back to Brisbane.

Fifita has been on the decline a while now …must be 18 months …

When was the last time we turned a new player to the club like that around ?

Sam might be having a bit of second year syndrome like Bula had last season ,.. this time last year if memory serves correctly you were campaigning that Bula should he moved out of the position ? Correct ?

Sam looks like he might have dropped some weight over the offseason

Latu turned 20 just 2 weeks ago and people talking about how little first grade he played in the previous 2 years. The expectation that all kids at 18 or 19 are ready for the step up to NRL is crazy.

Players are routinely playing into their mid 30's now. Particularly halves. He still has 15 years in front on him.

Those 3 boys were a bargain for us. All first grade quality at just a tick over a million. Can't get that value everyday in the NRL.
exactly right . i think supporters minds are skewed because Galvin is 19 and playing , that would NOT happen at any other club , we thrust kids into first grade bc we have too . giving Latu time will be the best thing for him and yes $500k is overs but he was the most touted kid in the ranks and his manager knew that , for a now starting half it’s standard money

Not sure why people are worried about Api to the Bears when his manager has already said he wants his future sorted asap.

Don't forget the NRL will be owning and operating the Bears so expect most player and journo comments around Perth to be extremely positive as per NRL's instructions.
Tds will be going, Benji in the coaching insider said Apis not going anywhere. Unless Tds is willing to slowly work his way to taking over then he will be leaving.

I’d say it’s near certain that’s the theory and it does make a fair bit of sense, but we just have to hope Talyn is on board and happy with it.
I’m a big fan of Talyn and think he can become one of the elite 9’s in the NRL so of course we want and need to keep him, but I don’t think he is yet worth the proposed 600k per season contract coming from his manager.
$600k a season…..tell ‘em they’re dreaming…
