Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Can people stop talking about players we let go? I want to read about possible future signings, not a bunch of blokes with no lives whinging back and forth about how some kid was let go years ago.

@jirskyr you don’t really understand, or you don’t understand? I usually find it hard to follow your train of thought in simply reading it. The fact you are replying and quoting posts I made to Willow (whilst literally offering no rebuttal to the strong and obvious points that the club fails in these areas we’re discussing 9/10 times) further shows that you do understand exactly what my
Opinion and reasoning behind that is, and just don’t have the time or mental capacity to hear it.

No dig at you personally, mate, it’s just so much of the “woah is me” and you ^ clearly trying to provide some base examples (Paps will obviously far eclipse anybody you’ve mentioned and I also went above and beyond in providing other OBVIOUS examples where our club majorly stuffed it on the issues you’re concerned with) and poorly correlating older players from the Chooks 2018 squad to the contrary of what the majority are saying is a good thing... however it’s totally false.

They don’t have fans up in arms and jumping down each others throats over this stuff for years on end. I also did not provide excuses but reasons and again - I get that you do not respect my opinion. This is all that needs to be said... aside from the fact that your opinion is total conjecture, it’s lighthearted and attempting to be positive and we do appreciate that. Let’s not sugarcoat things though

“It doesn’t fly” - me requesting you provide any kind of reasoning for why you’d bother comparing the Broncos or Souths juniors with ours over the last couple of years. One of the things you failed to mention in your post and clear proof that you don’t understand why the above clubs are successful and ours is not.

I previously posted that our finances are the first thing we need to fix to get back on the right track and as also stated this is/has already happened. Things to look forward to in the next few years I can assure you, Jirskyr 🙂

None of the above situations could’ve/would’ve ever occurred his as proven by the utterly disgraceful mismanagement of M. Suli situation - even if he did bring it upon himself - where there was no effort to subsidise any value on his contract and he DID not want to leave, nor was there really any significant attempt to player manage as Madge is finally now able to do at our club.
I do not support the club’s decision in letting Paps go without ever giving him serious consideration and letting him walk after they ever so slightly upped our initial offer - you add a year and tell him that if Teddy hasn’t extended during the season preceding 2018, then he’ll get his shot and on some kind of performance gauge where it seems he would’ve really given James a run for his money.

I don't disagree with the bulk of your post but nobody is arguing that any clubs intentionally release good players, schoolboys or otherwise, so I don't get your line of argument. Yes some players need a fresh start and yes other players don't kick on in different conditions.

My argument is that Tigers typically do retain our best juniors, and the ones we release are typically judicious. Most teams do retain their best juniors if they can. But also when $$$ comes calling, what are you supposed to do? Cowboys couldn't afford to keep Ponga and they had a 7-year run of finals, including 2 GFs and 1 premiership. And now, they have had 2 horrid seasons and would surely love to get Ponga back, but Newcastle went all in and nobody, no club, could match them.

But when you bring up Suli and Paps, jeez it's flogging a dead horse. I am still dumbstruck by the fanboy fapping over Paps, who hasn't even played 20 first grade games and is already 21 years old. We can certainly revisit the conversation in 4-5 years if he has established himself as one of the code's premier fullbacks, but until then it's all speculation - he hasn't proven anything. I am assuming you don't really have any idea what Tigers offered Paps in 2017, it's just speculation again.

And I don't know how you can finger mismanagement of Suli, gee whiz, the bloke was a liability. I don't have inside info but I watched the doco that Fox Sports played and it included an episode where they had to fire Suli after he failed to commit to his performance plan and several official warnings. Tigers obv did their diligence - they offered him a small fortune to play as a junior so clearly they understood his potential, but what are you supposed to do for someone who won't help themselves. The fact that he went to Bulldogs and was sacked within 4 weeks tells you all you need to know about him at that time.

Let me quote for you re Moses Suli 2018:
>That sometimes he would turn up to training and sleep in a teammates car instead of hitting the training paddock.
>
>That sometimes he would walk into the gym for a session and leave five minutes later. The Bulldogs knew all this.
Two weeks ago, NRL.com reported he was on the outer at the Dogs after he had already received two formal warnings and been sent home from training to think about his future.

@jirskyr THEY HAVE ORIGIN PLAYERS AND INTERNATIONALS IN FRONT OF THEM IN THE PACK ... we had no other half-decent back line players ready in waiting in reserves... then you can look at our bog average forward pack and it’s replacements (Richie, Mcqueen) for why the comparison does not fly !!

Roosters released O'Sullivan and recruited Kyle Flanagan..who has played NRL

?? O'Sullivan has played 4 FG games and Flanagan 8, and O'Sullivan debuted for Roosters. I don't think their careers are on the same trajectory, but they both played NRL. Those two trades are almost 12 months apart as well.

@jirskyr mate nobody has claimed to know what he was offered... but if you read my previous posts before getting so hard, you’ve have seen I spoke to his mates about it and my son players junior leagues with him.

People said above that he wanted to leave and I know for a fact that he didn’t , that was my initial post and not anything to do with you (bar what you already disregarded and did not reply to), so if that to you is flogging a dead horse, then really, feel free to hit the foe option. This conversation or whatever it was is dead too

Cool, that's the one point I am clear on. Let's revisit that in a few years. I have no specific interest in Paps' outcome one way or another, I don't dislike him, but again, a big fluster over a bloke who has done nothing so far.

Signing Suggestions & Rumour topic part 2 needed... Agree with your post though.

@jirskyr totally agree and understand your point about Suli and also hope that you understand that’s not legitimately key to the points I’ve made (that you admitted you understand).

Ponga was a complete gamble that Knights needed to take and in all honestly, total speculation of course, think he has no intention of sticking with them through thick and thin. That kinda cash is intoxicating... with Teddy he was offered an almost identical amount.. you keep saying things are speculation but concerning yourself with a gossip/signings suggestion thread.

As I’ve said three or four times before this I was sticking up for someone I know to be a good character and somebody who would’ve still added a lot of value to our club at a slightly increased contract value. We told him “you can go”... not good enough

Your point about money, although rings true, means you usually don’t put such a high value on a kid like Suli’s head when he was by all accounts inside the club completely enjoying his footy before that mug of a coach started meddling with things... Idris is one that could’ve turned out a brilliant signing for us at the time and was probably a good gamble - just didn’t pay off. We don’t always get it badly wrong - as you’ve clearly shown in recent posts - but we don’t usually get any right either... just mediocre

@Kazoo-Kid we haven’t had much to talk about in between hey... how’s your life going calling out two accomplished older blokes for a spirited debate about a sporting team they bleed for... love to see what you’d do if given the power to make some of the decisions we’ve been discussing, or even in attempting to understand them?

Agree some new and proven signings are LONG overdue buddy!

Is there anyway the Mod's can can take control of this tread and stop people just whinging about past players we lost etc, etc... Get over it as you cannot keep them all regardless and want to read about current rumours as this is the actual tread.. I assume I am not the only one as there has been a lot of posts asking the same..

If we tried to control whinging..all threads would be locked..lol

If members have issues with posters have the ability to block users simply click on the profile and block member..

AS for signings they get the own thread when made official by the Club ..
