Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

yeah, caryiannas said $500k a year.
So riddle me this...
Your the Melbourne storm. You have
NAS on 850k per year.

You pay NAS 500k, per year to break contract.

That leaves 350k of cap remaining. But wait, you still have NAS's spot and the least you can pay someone is 120k.

So the Storm have saved a total of: 230k to punt NAS.

Either they have a total gun ready to step in OR a cap crunch (i.e. warbrick and co they want to keep) OR NAS has pissed people off that much they just want him gone!

I don't get it.

i guess, he’s got 1.7m remaining - so $500k for 2 years is still better than paying the whole lot. they have their eyes on cooper bai so maybe he’s the replacement at a minimum cost - even tho he’s the next best forward coming thru and would command big money at other clubs

I reckon they’ll use the money to keep Kamakimika.

Don’t forget the Storm have Lazarus Valepo who was unsighted this year and also signed Josiah Pulu mid year.

no one will say it because they’re too scarred by what transpired later in the game, but the best we looked all year was the first half against the Titans on the Gold Coast. I don’t need to tell you who the 7 was that night and how we fell off a cliff when he came off injured.

we can’t put Doueihi through four months of preparing to play at lock to then throw him in at 7 to start the year. it doesn’t help anyone. Jock Madden was signed to be the backup half, use him as such.
Then you prepare him to play 7 all pre season because he starts there round 1

They were leaking a lot of points for a good portion of the 2025 season also.
Even throughout the finals their defence wasn’t great, they they had the strike players and x-factor to overcome it.
In saying this good attack helps the defensive mindset.

They gave up 14 against the Panthers and kept the Storm scoreless in the second half which no doubt was the difference in the final

They improved their “points leaked “ considerably this season …i would suggest that had a lot to do with a change of mindset installed by the coach … other than the coach … not much else otherwise changed from the previous season

You are also being critical of a team that went from 12th to Premiers ? maybe we’ll do the same hey ?

If Bula is asking for 800k a season you pay that every day of the week. In October 2025 it might be questionable, but by the time that contract starts in 2027 it will be a bargain.

Perth entering the competition, R360 and PNG on the Market, no starting fullback in the NRL with more than 50 games will be on less than 800k... Reece Walsh's performance in the finals pushed that price even higher. I wouldnt be shocked if nearly every starting fullback is on 1mil by 2027. Keano Kini played 2-3games this year and signed a new deal worth 1.1mil a season. He hasnt even hit 50 Nrl games yet.
And yet Cronulla are able to re sign Kennedy on 350 k a season. What a load of total BS - no doubt the NRL will just turn a blind eye

This is why I want Nathan Brown back!

Why because he cant fight but pretends he can? Because he acts like an enforcer but cant break a tackle or pull off a hit? We already had the pretend tough guy Klemmer play for us and that didnt work out too well, why replace him with another pretend enforcer

Liam Henry is the type we should go after, young, worthy of a starting prop opportunity, not a rep player yet so more value.

PANTHER SET TO HIT FREE AGENCY

Penrith premiership forward Liam Henry looks set to hit the open market on November 1. Henry, a fixture in the Panthers forward pack in recent seasons, is yet to field an offer from the Panthers with the clock ticking down until he enters the final year of his deal.

The 24-year-old is set to be in hot demand if the Panthers can’t lock him up in the next three weeks. He isn’t the only Panthers premiership winner set to be up for grabs on November 1.

Lindsay Smith, Luke Garner and Scott Sorensen are also about to enter the final year of their deals. Sorensen has been linked with a move to Perth and the Bears are also likely to take an interest in Henry should he be available.
Nice. All falling outta the tree.

This NAS situation needs to be looked into IMO..

I'm sorry if I'm on 850k for 2 more years and the current club has been shopping me around with NO takers why on earth would you walk away and look for other opportunities????

He is not going to get 850k for 2 years elsewhere so something fishy is happening.
So, if he signed with Dragons for say 600k does the storm have to take 250k each year for 2 years like we have to??

NAS has thanked them and said he is going to consider his options so he must have got some kind of pay out..
the other question is how much do they carry on their cap for the next 2 seasons. if the NRL want to persist with the salary cap they really need to tighten the rules and make it more transparent. The Will Kennedy signing is also just another example of what a farce the cap is.
