@WT2K wonder why they don't want him then?

No idea. Can ask the same for many players though... Example.. Why didn't the panthers want Sivo anymore?

Looking at the roster we have some very good players just not enough of them.

Matterson, Aloai, Twal, Mikalele, Brooks, Mikalele, Garner, Momirovski, Thompson, Nofa.

That’s where it’s telling. We need 7 quality players to really compete. Some youngsters may come up to the mark Clarke, Talau, Bradley, Seyfarth. It’s a long road to a consistent finals team and has to be done with patience and food long term planning.

makes me sick saying this, as that jersey drama will never be forgotten by me, but I would add Benji to that list of late, easily doing enough to get us over the line if we had a touch more class.

Forgot the legend but agree.

How many players do we have signed for next year?

25 + 3 development players in Kane Bradley, Henry Lealuga-Puhotau, Jock Madden. Brings us to 28 if they move into the top 30 next season (can't remember how development contracts work with top 30)

so if we sign a few players

and Aloai should be back, and liddle may be back middle of next season

sooooo yea

here is to 2020

@851 I have pasted Hooper's article - are we dreaming?

Exclusive: Wests Tigers target Storm star Ryan Papenhuyzen… two years after James Tedesco jumped to the Roosters
Ryan Papenhuyzen is being targeted by the Wests Tigers.
Ryan Papenhuyzen is being targeted by the Wests Tigers.
The Wests Tigers are preparing to open the cheque book in a bid to sign the young gun superstar they let slip 18 months ago — Melbourne Storm fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen.

Still licking their wounds after finishing ninth for the sixth time in the joint venture club’s history, the Tigers are preparing to try and land the signature of the player let go in a bid to retain James Tedesco.

Papenhuyzen has rewritten the NRL’s attacking statistics charts since becoming the Storm’s No.1, averaging 242m per game to lead the NRL in running metres for the six matches he’s started at fullback.

Ryan Papenhuyzen has been on fire for the Storm at fullback.
An indication of exactly how off the charts the Storm’s fullback numbers have been is the fact premiership-winning coach Craig Bellamy has axed Brodie Croft out of the Storm line-up to accommodate Melbourne’s newest x-factor player leading into the big end-of-season games in September.

In his six starting appearances, Papenhuyzen has scored five tries, made 39 tackle busts, nine line breaks and five line break assists.

In his six starting NRL games, Papenhuyzen leads the NRL in terms of running metres averaging 242m per game according to Fox Sports Lab. Tedesco (188m) is the next best followed by Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (184m), Jason Taumololo (183m), Payne Haas (180m) and Ken Maumalo (177m).

It’s the type of form which has rival clubs, headed by Wests Tigers, crunching their numbers for November 1 when they can officially table formal offers to the 21-year-old.

What’s he worth? That’s the million-dollar question. The Storm have currently got him signed on a steal for around $140,000 this season and upwards of $200,000 next year.

But if the Melbourne No.1 holds form, he could become the new Kalyn Ponga.

If the Tigers are serious, they’ll have to start around at least the $600,000-a-season mark.

And that cold very quickly go north if the fullback can maintain his run of form since busting into the NRL.

Papenhuyzen was part of the Wests Tigers under 20s team in 2017 when the club was desperately trying to retain NSW and Australian fullback James Tedesco.

In a double blow for the Tigers, they lost Tedesco to the Sydney Roosters and Papenhuyzen to Storm.

Tedesco has since won a premiership and is on target to win the Dally M Medal this year while Papenhuyzen has drawn comparisons with a young Billy Slater.

The Storm identified the Oakhill College product as a young gun on the rise and signed him on a three-year deal.

Talk about hyperbole.

Good young kid, the rest of it is pure exaggeration. I wonder if Hooper is getting a cut of the next contract that Paps signs?

who was that young broncos winger who played against sharks in the young broncos team?

Xavier Coates. They will retain him. We should look at Reece Walsh.

Herbie Farnworth was on the other wing,He is a goal kicking centre who has a habit of finding the tryline. He could be the Andy Courrier of the new millennium.

So far we have 3 development players for 2020 in Reece Hoffman, Henry Lealuga-Puhotau and Jake Simpkin. We are allowed 2 more development players.

According to his profile page on the WT site, Kane Bradley "is signed through at Wests Tigers until the end of the 2021 season." What that entails is vague. I'm assuming he will be upgraded to the top 30 for 2020-2021.

Jock Madden is off contract, from what I can tell. He turns 20 next year so it seems a bit too early to give up on him. Dunno what they'll do there as those five development spots are invaluable and should be used in an effort to secure the best, young talent as early as possible.

Even if Papenhuyzen doesn’t join the Tigers, at least a big offer ups his market value and forces the Storm to pay more than what they would like to keep him.

We lost Rankin too, so in the end it was all for nothing.
