I’m just glad I didn’t bash Taylor for years, then fawn over Cleary the moment he took over, only for him to dog the club. Egg meet face.

Lol you defended Taylor relentlessly for the length of his contact.
In the end he was proven a rubbish coach as everyone who disagreed with you tried to point out.
Nice claim on that higher ground lol

Hadn’t heard this anywhere but on this forum Steve but I’m sure Matto won’t let that happen.

25 + 3 development players in Kane Bradley, Henry Lealuga-Puhotau, Jock Madden. Brings us to 28 if they move into the top 30 next season (can't remember how development contracts work with top 30)
So far we have 3 development players for 2020 in Reece Hoffman, Henry Lealuga-Puhotau and Jake Simpkin. We are allowed 2 more development players.
According to his profile page on the WT site, Kane Bradley "is signed through at Wests Tigers until the end of the 2021 season." What that entails is vague. I'm assuming he will be upgraded to the top 30 for 2020-2021.
Jock Madden is off contract, from what I can tell. He turns 20 next year so it seems a bit too early to give up on him. Dunno what they'll do there as those five development spots are invaluable and should be used in an effort to secure the best, young talent as early as possible.
How do these "development" contracts work? I know that the players can play NRL after June 30, but do they have to be upgraded to the top 30 within some set time period? We have spots in our top 30 now being taken up by Smith, McIntyre and Seyfarth who are unlikely to play NRL in the next 2 years. Why did we upgrade them, particularly on multi year deals when they have shown nothing to suggest that they are close to NRl standard?
* They can play NRL after June 30 without being in the top 30.
* Players on development contracts have no restrictions on training and things the club can do for them. Basically, they can do everything a top 30 player can do except actually play NRL (while applying the above).
Unsure what else a development contract provides.

Dev contracts basically allow top youngsters to be full time and avoid the mandatory training /education requirements that flegg players have. So they can develop faster. And can play nrl 2/3 the way through the season.
A club decides how long the dev contract is either one or two years usually. Players like talau, madden, Bradley and seyfarth were in one year dev contracts and 2 year nrl deals. But we upgraded talau and seyfarth a few months early to save some cash.
Next year there's already 4 dev players : simpkin, Cini, lealuga puhotau and hoffman.
The problem with Dev contracts is if they're the wrong player you end up wasting nrl spots for a couple of years. It's basically gambling on high schoolers. Players like McIntyre, Smith and Gibbs were poor choices as there's limited first grade prospects. Mikaele we got 100% right, give him a year training full time then chuck him in nrl.
Interestingly other clubs have used these contracts for players who've played nrl and use them as emergency backups for the first grade spine. The Roosters with Drew Hutchison for example.
