I think our priority signings for 2021 should be Tom (22) and Jake (25) Trbojevic. Tom is one of the best fullbacks in the game, is only 22 and has room to improve in skill and physically. Jake is one of the best forwards in the game, a leader, plays big minutes, and improves a teams defence.

They might be hard to pry out of Manly but we should try very hard to get them.

You would have more chance of winning a billion dollar Powerball than getting them away from Manly.

Talk about "pie in the sky"

So we shouldn't try then?

They have DCE on $1.3M. Fonua-Blake, Suli and Walker would not be cheap. They just signed long term contracts for a few of their young stars like Garrick and Fainu. Tapau and Suli are both off contract at the end of 2020 just like the Turbo Brothers.

Manly are going to have a very tough time keeping these guys and they want to play together.

We would be the only club and fan base that would consider ct over paps. Case and point melbourne are offering a long term sizable deal. Cant understand why they arent chasing thomo

I don't think anyone is saying they think Thompson is a better player than Papenheuysen. Some people are saying they'd be cautious of giving Paps a big, long-term deal right now because he's only shown a relatively limited skill set for a relatively short period of time. As always, and man I get bored of repeating this, it's about CAP SPEND. On $300k each, I'm sure everyone would rather have Papenheuysen than Thompson. If Thompson is on $200k and Paps is asking for $700k, hmm. Not so obvious.

It’s quite clear you have no idea about statistical analysis

You still can't show me any mechanism by which Paps "destroys" Corey in tackle breaks and line breaks. So come back when you have some data, not just sweeping statements.

Totally agree.

The whole point with Corey, as the example, is that he posts good stats. He's not a terrific fullback but he has his moments. He's certainly good value when it comes to salary cap.

Paps also has some good stats but I fear far too many people wound up in the excitement of a fast new player, not thinking long-term about durability and cost.

Paps plays 1 season and people are talking about offering big money. You could potentially buy two Corey Thompsons for the figures being bandied about for Paps. And if he's keen to stay at Melbourne, which makes sense, then you are going to have to pay for him to move.

I think Walker has signed with Penrith for next year

Watch any game... that will prove it.
Paps is exciting to watch, Corey not so much.

So as much as it relieves the boredom of season end to randomly talk about players we'd love to sign without any chance at all of ever getting them across to the WTs, everyone will just need to sit tight until the dust settles on which players we are able to shed. Until we can lose some of the squad that we need to, we are going to be extremely limited on who we can afford and the number of spots available.
We all can see where we need some bolstering up, and I think we mostly have the same agreed group of players that we need to, or would like to see, moved on.
It's now a matter of negotiation and juggling the diverse factors that plague this sort of mess. How well we come out of the process will be how we judge the recruitment team and Madge etc for next year, and ultimately how we finish up in 2020.
So far Billy Walters looks a decent start. I think we are chasing a quality centre and I understand Sami from the Titans as well. If we can change out a front rower or 2 for some hard running tough guys who will actually play in NRL each week - then maybe we are ready to make the 8.

That are both Manly boys through and through. You would have to pay them significantly overs to pry them away from the peninsula.

Unless you're Nick Politis. He'll get both in the Roosters salary cap and find room for Jai Arrow and anyone else that's on the market and half decent.

They will take unders to stay at Manly....They have no intention of leaving Manly ever!. What a shame our departed big 3 didn't have the same attitude to our club as Jake and Tom!

At least Brooks and Lawrence do.

Brooks got paid overs for 3 years or more, way overs, and I don't really think he took unders to stay this year, who was willing to pay more than we did.

Except our club. He is a franchise player, someone who attracts crowds and excites.

@OzLuke AGREED! He's a couple of years older but much fitter, minimal brain fades, does lots of dummy half work, does hitups, packs in at lock, kicks - 100kg. The complete package!
