Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Personally I’ll be keeping a close eye on the progress of Seyfarth next season. He’s one of our tallest in the squad, 194cm (same height as Matterson) but needs a good preseason or two to add some muscle to his 100kg frame. From what I’ve seen so far he has some good footballing instincts, solid work rate and plays with a healthy dose of controlled aggression. I thought he displayed encouraging development this season and I was supportive of his elevation into the top 30. If that development trajectory continues then he’ll be in the mix to get some opportunities on the bench at some stage next season.

Denan Kemp has a post on his FB page “the locker room” with a schoolboys highlights video of a QLD Reds player Dion Samuela (played fullback in the highlights). He mentions in the post that the WT are having a look at him. Anyone have any news on this?

Haven't seen much of him, but enjoyed your write up on Alex.

Just jumped on after a busy day. I noticed there were about 80 new posts in this thread since I last looked. SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED!!!!!!

False dawn

Something did happen - 80 bits of discussion about not much at all.

80 bits of weirdness more likely.

So far I’ve read that we’re signing Moylan, Vunivalu, Vete, Lomax and Arrow and swapping Reynolds, Matterson, Packer & Marsters for Fafita, Milford and God forbid... Darius Boyd! I think everyone is on drugs ?

Walters is still the only one we’ve actually signed by the way....I think ?

Mate ..... we are just keeping the conversation going until something solid is announced. Keeps the boredom at bay and having some fun getting our WT fantasy league on paper.

I know that mate. Wasn’t having a go, just having a laugh.

I agree ..... he may be a keeper.

The reality is, no one is taking our big money players off our hands because we flat out overpaid for them.

In the short term, our only chance is to have Matulino medically retired and Reynolds to leave for England.

No one will take Packer or Mybe with the money that they're on. We're stuck with them unfortunately.

Moylan is just another ex-high profile player on big money that isn't performing. On a $300k - $350k contract, you might entertain it, but I wouldn't put all my eggs in that basket. We would be signing him in the hope he rediscovers form...it's unlikely to happen.

The best thing for us to do is wait until the end of next year.

If we can add a few Twal, Mikaele, Garner types to our roster between now and the start of the 2020 season, then fine, but unless an opportunity comes up to make a material difference to our roster, then we should just be patient.

By the start of 2021, our fine will be finished and we'll have less money tied up in players like McQueen, Matulino, Jennings, Taylor and Eisenhuth. Not sure what those guys are on, but you'd imagine that would free up around $1.5 Million + the fine = around $1.8 Million to spend.

Cheap buys you might look at in the off-season to bolster depth are:

Jamie Buhrer
Brad Taikarangi
Josh Hoffman
Hymel Hunt
Alex Glenn

No world beaters there, but you can only buy what's being sold.

Sorrensen

I would take Sorrensen in a heart beat - tough aggressive backrower who can play long minutes. Wouldnt say no Tetavano but he will want decent coin...Jai Field also would be handy from a back-up and depth POV.

Thanks for the great post. The first time I saw Seyfarth play in SG Ball against a very good Sharks' team at Woolooware he stood up with Suli, Papenhuyzen and Doeuhi as future NRL players. I like players who improve each grade they progress through and Seyfarth has certainly done this well,

I was told yesterday the forward we have signed is Capewell.

Yay another plodding journeyman. 4th second rower on the sharks depth chart and allowed to leave because they have better coming through.

4 years on 600k ?

Can’t agree with you on this one. If true good signing.

@weststigers I wouldn't be surprised if Reynolds ends up at the Titans to assist with their change in culture among the playing group. He has history with Justin Holbrook.

Fingers crossed, but do you think we'd be paying a fair bit of freight?

@weststigers We will be paying any team a fair bit of freight unfortunately. When there isn't demand for a player, its a 'buyers' market.

Naaah fake news.
I doubt that, with Madge in charge, that would ever happen.
On the other hand swaps are always on the cards.

Capewell would be a very strong replacement for Lawry (no way you could have both of them). He is basically a bigger, faster Lawry................with the same hands. Drops them just like Lawry does.

Has the speed to play center, so would be a much better 'cover' option than MCK for 3/4 also.
