I think clubs want someone a little more contemporary. Gentle got a job because he was one of the boys is how it sounded.

I don't want Gentle anywhere near the club, I know it was a long time ago but from our reunions I've heard he's the same or worse, in 1986 trialing for Western Suburbs Presidents Cup Gentle was trialing he was arrogant, didn't have to mix with the players cause everything was going to be done for him, at the time I think his dad Ken was the 1st grade coach, but our coach at the time had the ball's to move him on, never seen him again till he was on TV in a coaches box as a assistant, that was a shock lol

Didn’t he coach here previously, did he leave on bad terms?

I think if we have signed Frizzell it wont be announced until the knights are out of the finals, same goes for any other signings from teams in the semis

The old chestnut of we’ve signed someone but won’t be announced until after finals.

Maybe this one is true but I’ve heard this one every year for the last 5 years.

Former Origin enforcer Tevita Pangai Jr is set to sever ties with his English Super League club and return to Australia, hoping for one final stint in the NRL.

Former Broncos and NSW Origin enforcer Tevita Pangai Jr is returning to Australia after quitting the English Super League.
English sources have told Sport Confidential Pangai Jr will sever ties with Hull KR at season’s end after a turbulent two-year stint in the UK.

Pangai Jr had a 12-month stint with French outfit Catalans Dragons before joining Willie Peters at Hull KR, where he has played just five games due to injury and suspension.

Still only 30, Pangai Jr has dropped 15kg in recent months and will return to Australia next month hoping for one final stint in the NRL.
A veteran of 147 NRL games, Pangai Jr was part of Penrith’s premiership-winning squad in 2021 and could be a bargain buy for an NRL club.

Pangai Jr is now managed by leading Sydney agent Ahmad Merhi, who has picked up some of the NRL’s biggest names, including Broncos trio Payne Haas, Deine Mariner and Xavier Willison

He’d have to go down as one of the biggest wastes of talent in the modern game.

I think St George will have to with all the big name players they’ve bought. Parra I thought would improve this season after a great finish in 2025, but like us they actually finished lower than they did in 25, so who knows what will happen with them next season, especially with Luai on board.

I forgot about the Luai factor, but it could be very entertaining if there are some on field sledges and blow ups by Moses who we all know is very capable in that department.

My preference of course is for their season to fall off the edge of a cliff

Anyhow, my original thinking was along the lines of them having a better run with injuries and some reasonable recruitment along with the fact that I think their coach is fairly capable.

I an very keen on the Seb Kris possibility.
He has plenty of faults, he seems to come up with an occasional handling error in basic collision and he’s not known on being a great defender, but he is an experienced, well performed NRL player who has x-factor with his size, power and athletic aerial ability.
We have missed the boat in regards any nasty props for 2027, the best we can hope for is the ageing Tyson Frizell or Toby Rudolph who o think would be a better option.
I think Sean O’Sullivan would be a good addition with his vocalness, leadership and experience, but I’ve heard it mentioned we are only paying Jock Madden 100k for next season with the Broncos chipping in the rest.
If this is correct it would be hard to offload him for a similar and only slightly better player who we would have to pay full value for, from a salary cap point of view.
They’re are absolutely no decent second rowers with NRL experience available for 2027 and as someone else mentioned no good quality proven second rowers are coming here to be stuck behind Samuela and KPP.
I was again impressed with the powerful ball running of Ethan Roberts yesterday, I think we potentially have a genuine strike weapon with him, we just need to get him extremely fit and improve his defence.
Don’t discount him as an option at 13 either.
Hoping we also keep Tony Sukkar who made good strides forward this season.
I think we need a faster, more athletic style of edge forward as an option and pointing difference.
I have mentioned Tommy Talau as an option if he was keen to make a positional change from the backs to being a second rower and I like the highlights of a player @BlackWhiteGold identified from the Qld Cup Tane Kiriona.

Sone smart recruitment could make us highly competitive next season.

Yes because we don’t have a spare 700k plus to target anyone who have less faults in their game.
He’s been projected as a possible starting centre for the Kiwis at the upcoming World Cup.

It might be an avenue for us to add another middle to our playing roster.

There is a (small) chance that TPJ returns to the NRL and dominates. The chance of that happening at WT is even smaller.

Still, if he does find form, I’m sure plenty of people will come here and see we should have signed him.

A lot of it comes to the environment a player needs to succeed. Our environment would not do that for TPJ.
