Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Na. Bunty come over was
Price is what I expected and seems ok.
My concern is will he be unhappy if playing reserve grade due to other players form being better than his?
Being a mate of Benji’s, I bet he will feel obliged to select him in our NRL team regardless of form.
best in off-season and hardly played first grade early n season

Let’s say we sign Tyson Frizell who will be 35y.o in October this year, who does he replace from our top 17 when we are full strength?
I know we need depth and I’m all for improving our depth, but I assume he would not be coming to play reserve grade and I’m not convinced at age 35 he will be a better top 17 option than what we already have?

8.May
9. Korisau
10.Pole
11.KPP
12.Fainu
13.Twal

14.Brailey
15.Seyfarth
16.Fainu
17.Hunt

You will never go more than two weeks without someone going down. If we don’t have people fighting for spots then the top 17 gets comfortable.l, evidenced by someone like Terrell May before he got dropped in r24. The pack you named there is not that different to the one that was pretty average for the back 2 months.

For the record, he will be far better than Brailey, Seyfarth and Sione Fainu. With respect to those guys. He is a different style to Hunt so you can’t really compare that. He is above Twal in impact, (maybe without the motor now), but he hits a lot harder.

Great signing.

#13 Frizz

Push Twal to starting fron row
Fonua, bench + impact

I don't mind it

Just think we are the last club that should take anyone's word for granted, can't remember the last time it worked in our favour.

Maybe your right, might just be PTSD on my behalf.....
Club gave Schuster a chance @ their request
Probably give their brother a chance too

Think we're going ALL IN on the Fainus.
Latu & Samuela; very much the way forward for The Tigers.

Isn't it funny. You say that pack is similar to the one that struggled a for a couple of months when you could also easily say that same pack dominated oppositions easily at the start if the year and have proven they are capable of doing it.

While Hunt played a little better this year, I wiuld definitely have Frizzell ahead of him for both work ethic, consistent output and the ability to cover edge.

With the potential signings and definite signings for next year we are probably a 5% better team, the problem is most of the teams around us are 10% better teams for next year.

I guess the club is going to keep plugging away in hope that the pathways system will one day deliver gold

i like the signing tbh, his stats this year would probably be better then almost any second rower at our club

experienced calm

Really ? You are comparing him to Sam or KPP 😂…

Stats must really be for losers then ( if true)… I actually thought Frizzel would be better suited to the middle now ..

Why not ? He is 35 years old and getting paid around $300k supposedly ? That’s depth money now… At what other club is he in the starting 17?

He will still get ample opportunity to play NRL with our injuries we get every year

Frizell has not played edge back row at all this season, he’s played only as a middle.
In saying that I don’t doubt his stats probably read well as it has been noticeable he has wound back the clock a little with plenty of strong ball carries and some hard hitting defence.
It will be very interesting to see how he plays tonight as the Knights will need a big game from him if they are any chance.
In saying all this, Barry Toohey the well respected local Newcastle journalist seems to think he will stay at the Knights.
The other question is, was Samuela at his best this season?
I think he was way below his best, regularly fading in and out of games without much involvement.
All Wests Tigers supporters are well aware of his ability and get swept up in the fact he is an edge player who can steamroll an opponent and run good lines to make line breaks, but I’m not sure if it was the contract negotiations playing a part, or if he was playing injured over the back half of the season, but his involvement was very minimal and we need much higher involvement from him next season and beyond should we be able to retain him.

A little big off topic, but is the UK Super League competition currently any better than NSW Cup?
Charlie Staines looks like he will make the most metres gained in the entire competition, it is projected Joe Ofahengaue will be a prop in the team of the year and Solomona Faatape is highly regarded as one of the best centres in the competition.

Averillo > Starford
Frizzell > Bunty
Brailey > Hope
Gojetski > Geyer
Go-jet-ski 🤣

I like that one, the nickname not the player, YES, better than Geyer but still a pass for me at least.

Frizell maybe as a point of difference.

Is he the only guy left in the NRL that still wears black boots? 🤔

Makes you think back to Langlands and his white boots back in the mid 70's being a stand out back then, fast forward 50 years and who would have thought that humble old black boot would be almost extinct.
