Feels like a chicken and egg thing to me, but I have to say it's the attack in the red zone that frustrates me the most.My 2c on the attack vs defence argument.
Both are crap, however my theory is our rubbish defence puts pressure on our attack. They have no confidence they can defend back to back sets, so they play very conservative in attack so we dont make errors.

Just a couple of years younger and several yards fasterAt best, Schiller would be a like for like for Skelton.
Spoke to him at Kirra pub in April when he was working the door
IMO you are missing the big picture that "vicious" is trying to explain/point out to you is---------.And as frigging typical you don't answer my question about you knowing more than Cleary , Bellamy and Robinson
WE HAVE TO FIX OUR DERENCE FIRST
I'm not arguing about our attack , yes we need more points , but the less you need to score the better and easier it is
So are you going to answer the question .....or is there something wrong with you
Just a reminder 16th worse defence in the NRL , but defence isn't the problem as long as you can score 40 plus every week
This squad based on the current signings ISNT capable of scoring 40 each week
So your solution .....score more points , don't reduce the number you need
Like arguing with a child that speaks another language
Watched Dunster and Schuster at Lidcombe one game. Both did not impress.I literally forgot about him . You’re right . Definitely . When you frame it like that with the bench back role , there’s positions and depth there . Chuck in Hayze Dunster , who might be moving to edge forward , and we have time to develop some players
Hopefully we will be better served now with more speed in the backline. The most underrated part of try was the work from Twal.
It was the absolute peak of our season.... could go as far as saying it was the peak of the last 15 years. I hadnt felt vibes like that since 2005.
Then Luai went to PNG
Api got suspended.
Douhei got injured.
All downhill from there..
You get your defence right and you need less defence and attackI think attack was more the issue. In the modern sport 24 points is about the number you should consistently aim to keep teams under but also score over.
We kept teams to 24 or less 14 times which is better then Souths and Cowboys and only just behind Knights and Sharks
Where as we only scored 24 or more 6 times with only the Dragons 5 times being worse and most clubs especially finals clubs being much better (the 4 clubs above who finished 5th-8th) all did it between 13-16 times each.
Yes we were flogged a few times when injuries destroyed us but those weren't the games that determined us making the finals imo.
Also you get your attack right and you need to do less in defence.
I haven't missed his point at allIMO you are missing the big picture that "vicious" is trying to explain/point out to you is---------.
The WT defence matches the opposition for the first 35 min. or so.
But if there is no attack from their backline for their efforts; it becomes a Mental Thing--------------ie. why bust my guts out for a backline that can't take advantage of it?
The 1% extra efforts drop right off.
Hard to detect but results confirm it. If you have points on the board, it's the incentive to give it your all. The 1%ers remain.
Pappali'i, Stefano could see it from within and wanted out. Others can see it from the outside so no interest unless big dollars are offered but again short-lived enthusiasm.
The Answer.
Plug the gaps with 80 min players with some speed-------and win more games than you lose.
That attracts players from elsewhere for a fair contract price.
Defence is still very, very important for the forwards to match it or out do the opposition but speed in the back line, that has points in them, helps big time in the Mental Game!
And press hard on development from within. Better identification of talent, encouragement and coaching! Fund the grass roots FFS.
Defence is very, very important. Not an argument there from anyone.I haven't missed his point at all
Everyone needs to take deep breath and look at our side for 2027 realistically ....it doesn't have many points in it
We can't try to get into a scoring frenzy with sides or we will get demolished
If we concentrate on getting our defence right first and then start tinkering with our attack and gradually improve our attack we will be in a far better place recruitment wise and attack wise in 2028
A lot of people need to stop thinking 2005 can become reality again .....especially with our lack of junior development and recruitment issues
For the 4 millionth time ......if Bellamy , Robinson and Cleary think defence is the priority maybe a lot of people need to listen
But as we are seeing people think the coaches who won 7 from the last 8 premierships don't know and the club who has been the poorest side in the comp over the last 6 years should take a different path from them
So very Wests Tigers thought process
You think our defence is pretty good for 35 minutes .....same defence that was 2nd worse in 2026
And professional footballers don't think that way in regards to mindset
Good footballers back their defence to get them home
If there isn't much coaching involved with defence and defensive systems , why are we so continually bad at itDefence is very, very important. Not an argument there from anyone.
Tackle what's in front of you. Make sure you are in front of them. line speed etc. I would assume there is not a lot of coaching there. But Fitness is King. Along with sustained resilence.
I would also assume the coaching is also about the attack from the forwards that needs to be instilled into them. They must make metres going forward, run hard, decoy runners, quick PTB with the occasional off load. Put their defence under pressure. Create time and space for the backline to function, be a threat.
A delicate balance.
Going to bed now----Good night.
