Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Making the 8 attracts players. Mitchell might help, but not if the rest of the team is average. He will get frustrated and leave like others before him.

@851 Can anyone tell me if the 10day cooling off period still applies and in which circumstances. If it does than Nov 11 becomes important.

As far as I know it still does mate, all contracts have a cooling off period

😂 wasn’t Kramer your avatar??

Sure was mate, my wife actually bought me a Kramer t-shirt back in the day, the one where he got a portrait painted, might have to dig out the old avatar

Latrell. 900k but with a clause in his contract to never grow that mustache again and he's got to learn a bit of sportsmanship.

There's a lot of discussion about how good it would be to have this or that player - people coming up with a whole lot of different ways we could spend our money. But it is now November 6th and I'm still not hearing of us signing anyone! We've let Matterson go. I hope it's not a direct swap for Brown from Parramatta. For me that is a loss as Matterson offers more than him.

We have only 25 players in our squad. We need to add 3 or 4 players before round 1. Things will happen when they happen.

Smart move from the Roosters. If they’re going to lose him then better to move on quickly while there are still plenty of quality options free to be signed for 2021.

People criticise Tigers for doing that with Taupau and Blake Austin.

Was warrented imo who were our other options? We moved them on for the likes of Rankin we kept Lovett. Also payed Takaringi to play for the eels Glad those days are gone

We never paid Takairangi one cent to play at Parra.

Don't be so sure of that, he had already got accommodation in Sydney and was moving.

Want a little wager on this?

It was reported by numerous sources, was mentioned on FOX, but whatever

Was also reported by Vossy on Fox that Brad Arthur hi-jacked him meeting up on holidays in Bali ...

If you go on YouTube and look up "Brad Takairangi Locker Room" he explains a bit about what happened. You'd have to dig through the interview, as it's long, but it's kind of messed up what we did to him.

Signed him for more than the Titans could pay, then 3 weeks later after everyone else has signed all their players, and the cooling off period on his contract had expired, tell him the deal is off. Poor form from JT, especially after the players he had in first grade, there was an article saying that the change of coach will not affect the contract. Also he was managed by Gavin Orr, no wonder he takes pleasure in screwing us over.
A small extract from article
Takairangi’s manager Gavin Orr said the New Zealand Test hopeful had agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the Tigers and the sacking of coach Mick Potter would not affect the contract.

I honestly think lattrell has signed somewhere already . Robbo got wind of it , pulled the contract and the roosters got on the front foot , to play the "he only signed cause we pulled the contract card".
The ability to get LM a 250k TPA, or a 100k company credit card , would suggest that the roosters don't need to not meet his demands .
This would also explain the sudden no interest from the Bulldogs ( too expensive LOL Keiran Foran says hi)
I'm not saying it's Us ( I believe it's all but certain it's the team with huge , deep Aboriginal links ), but if the 10 day cooling off period is legit , then no announcement can be made until Nov 10 at the earliest , no matter when he committed . Or any player for that matter !

Imagine Wests Tigers having an above average goal kicker.

In 2019 Mitchell kicked at 75.4%

In 2019 Momirovski kicked at 75.0%

So I guess 0.4% takes you to above average. LOL

The narrative he's a gun goal kicker needs to die. Kicked 76.9% in season 2018.

The telegraph has a quote from him saying he wants to be a cowboy.
I can't read the article obviously because it's behind a paywall.

I can't read the article obviously because it's behind a paywall.

Latrell Mitchell has identified the Cowboys as a future home, with North Queensland fielding an approach to sign the NSW Origin sensation following his contract spat with the Sydney Roosters.

The Courier-Mail can reveal Mitchell is seriously weighing up a move to the Cowboys from 2021 onwards as he explores contingency plans after the Roosters’ bombshell decision to withdraw a two-year, $800,000-a-season extension.

Mitchell is so genuine about a possible shift to Townsville a close associate has contacted the Cowboys in the past 24 hours to outline the 22-year-old’s interest in a Plan B move to North Queensland.

If Mitchell can’t salvage his contract situation at the Roosters, the Cowboys are frontline contenders to snare one of the most destructive outside backs in the code.

Mitchell wasn’t originally on North Queensland’s hit list but the ructions at Bondi – and revelations of the Roosters centre’s interest in a fresh start in Townsville – has triggered a strategic rethink from Cowboys bosses.

While the Cowboys have yet to engage in formal talks with Mitchell, they are interested and are crunching their salary cap numbers.

The club has around $1 million to spend under the salary cap for 2020 and beyond, funds that were initially set aside for Valentine Holmes, the former Queensland Origin ace currently in America chasing an NFL contract with the New York Jets.

The Cowboys can only afford to sign Mitchell or Holmes. The latter’s campaign with the Jets is due to end in January, by which time Holmes must decide whether to stay on in the States or abort his NFL dream to return to rugby league.

One Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon card for the Cowboys is their football-operations chief Peter Parr, who has worked with Mitchell over the past two years in NSW Origin camp as the Blues’ team manager.

Mitchell is off-contract at the end of next season but can now formally field rival offers after the NRL’s annual player-contracting period on November 1 began last Friday.

A number of Sydney-based clubs launched inquiries about Mitchell on Wednesday, but it is understood the Taree-born product is keen for a change of pace and sees appeal in the more relaxed Townsville lifestyle that lured Johnathan Thurston.

Former Cowboys centre Brent Tate believes Mitchell would transform North Queensland’s backline and relish the region’s lifestyle.

“The Cowboys would be a great fit for Latrell if he is keen to be there,” Tate said.

“Latrell has a young family and for an NRL player looking for that life balance, the Cowboys tick all the boxes.

“Latrell has copped a lot of criticism for such a young bloke and the media scrutiny in Townsville is certainly not at the level of what he would face in the fishbowl of Sydney.

“We (the Cowboys) lacked some strike in the backline last season, so there’s no doubt Latrell would be a handy addition to our backs.

“When he is at his best, there is no one better – daylight comes second when Latrell is in form.

“I would love to see a player like Latrell in Cowboys colours.”

Well if you can believe this article that Townsville is where Mitchell actually wants to go, then that’s where he will go. Probably wants to get out of Sydney and all the media hype. There is no guarantee that Holmes will return to Australia anyway, so they will find the cash for Mitchell I’m sure.
