I would prefer signing someone like aj brimson for cheap then a mitchell whos on 1.1 mill a year and then use the rest of our money on other positions like the forward pack

Im hate the word cheap when we talk about signings. Why is it our go to word?

Everyone's a salary cap expert. Not as annoying as ''If Madge can get player x firing'' mind you. Man, that grates on me.

If you’re that upset I reckon you should talk to Madge. He’ll fix you up and get you firing

Cheap is our go to word because of the buffoons that have been in charge previously now we appear to be heading in the right direction we should upgrade from cheap to VALUE signings

Now that's a better word. Cheap is a signing like Walters.

At least we don't see basement bargain anymore.

The fact there is debate about the worthiness of Latrell on +$1m says it all. On this type of money you cant have any doubts about the player. To me he would be a disaster signing on big money.

The Madge comments are the most annoying by far. He's just a coach, not a miracle worker. If Bennett/Robinson/Bellamy can't get them firing I don't think Madge can either.

Give Robinson a team that isn't stacked with big players in key positions and lets see how he goes. Sure he's had success, but he bloody well should have too with the roster he has year in year out. Bellamy is one that seems to be a bit of a guru. Ricky Stuart goes ok too - he's rarely got a team on paper that looks overly threatening. Madge I think is well up there and deserves a lot of credit. Our roster last year was not only ageing, but kind of average with not a lot of back up from Reserves. Bennett is another that rocks with a star studded outfit. Not so much with a lesser bunch.

Let’s just settle with signings like Kurt Capewell etc I reckon......

We get a player like Latrell Mitchell available and people think against it?

Hands down would be the biggest profile signing in the history of the club, not only that would attract other star players wanting to join the club along with $ the club would gain through sponsorships revenue etc

If a club like manly - can pay 3 players 1 mil a season and we wanna save our 1 mil slot cause Latrell Mitchell is risky?

Kids shown he’s a superstar - his experience alone playing in x2 grand finals, SOS and Kangaroos and yeah all btw within the age of 22 along with also having the ability to kick goals something we’ve lacked for over 5 years now

Sky’s the limit for this kid - or we can stick to paying 800k for Mbye and Reynolds...... easy choice for me

Understand your post - disagree that LM is a superstar. imho he is a long way from being a superstar. Players like Cronk, Turbo, Teddy etc. are superstars because they can consistently win you games (pull them out of the fire so to speak). LM does not do that.

Maybe in a few years he'll be able to do that, he occasionally can do something brilliant and turn a game but not on a consistent basis.

He is an average goal kicker as well - mentioned earlier he is 0.4% better than Momirovski - so you are not getting a top line kicker either.

I am just trying to not get carried away but to be more realistic in an assessment -
Can occasionally win you a game, on average he is inconsistent, average goal kicker, has an attitude problem, does not usually train hard, friends with Mundine etc. etc.

Definitely not a 1.1 million dollar player for mine (especially if he is not playing in the spine), so as a centre at this stage of his career 750k max and that is stretching it I think. (I don't care what we paid Mbye or Josh - three wrongs don't make a right.

I'd go for A.J. for half the amount myself.

but we should all realise that we are talking about the tigers here so it will either not happen and mitchell goes some where else or we over pay him and he becomes shit its just the normal west tigers thuing to happen

Anyone with Anthony Mundine involved is a NO for me... Comes out and say get as much money as you can get :grimacing: .. For the money he wants I would expect him to be on his top game every week and maybe drop a few kilos as well.

Maybe - but its hard to criticise him. In 7 years as coach of the rorters they have finished minor premiers 4 times and 2nd twice. They have won 3 grand finals and were one game out of the grand final on 3 other occasions. The anomaly was 2016 when they finished 15th. They had guys like Manu, Mitchell, Matterson playing in lower grades.

I wouldn't be ruling out souths as an option either. They have denied but they did the same with roberts. I would love to have him but think we are a very long shot. It will be easier you for him to got to cows/Souths then us unfortunately, but if he can handle Robinson then he should be able to handle Madge. Both are pretty strict disciplinarians

I'm not sure why you are always against buying top level rep players but to suggest Mitchell is not an elite player is completely bonkers. He has the ability to turn a game in 1 second because he is so much raw talent. He has more skill than the rest of our 1-5 combined and then some.

And yes he might not have the best attitude ever but he's only 22 and has been under intense media scrutiny for years. It's called maturity and he'll get better as he gets older. How was your attitude at 22? Mine wasn't that great.

@Tigers_Tigers don't be a defeatist bro. Times change and it seems from the outside we are only going up

@Russell also do understand your point - however especially within the way the NRL is now the 1 mil price tag is becoming a lot more frequent

- Ben Hunt
- Daly Cherry Evans
- Kieran Foran
- Ash Taylor
- Mitchell Pearce
- Jack Bird
- Angus Crichton
- Shaun Johnson
- David Fifita (soon to be)
- Jason Taumololo
- Anthony Milford
- Micheal Morgan (very close to it)
- David Klemmer (900k)
- Tom Turbo
- Jake Trobejivic
- Nathan Cleary
- Kayln Ponga
- Cooper Cronk
- Cameron Smith
- James Tedesco
- RTS
- Sam Burgess

IMO Latrell Mitchell is apart of that list

@Russell also, no offence but I don’t wanna hear the Momo comparisons - he played 11 games and wasn’t even goal kicking for a few of the games

Latrell can hit them idc what the % says, I’ve watched him goal kick and it’s a hell of a lot better than what we have

And I do get the AJ brimson situation, but I’m sick of paying for potential I personally wouldn’t be willing to throw 500-600 k at him if I can get a proven star for 900-1 mil that’s just me - a star in which will also attract other players to join the club

Brimson can still be brought in to play 6?

I just don't see Latrell wanting the work rate involved at fullback once he gets there myself

What makes him special is he is similar to Inglis .....he may only get involved in a game for 10 minutes ...but for those minutes .....wow

Personally 850 k max for me ...he isn't a million dollar player

He should be, it would be the making of him, getting his hands on the ball all the time.

I'm not bagging AJ Brimson here but he's played 30 odd games for the team that has been in the bottom couple across his two years there. Very difficult to shell out major dollars for that promising as he might be. We should definitely have a crack at value but given Mal seems to like him I'd be surprised if we were able to pry a 21 year old developing Queenslander away from home, family and Mal
