Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

@TJ21 I agree . Some crazy ex , “nice guy” stuff going on in here atm . His manager has stated he will sit with us next week . To me that means it’s gone past the “would you be interested in roughly $$$” stage , and is now in the terms and conditions phase . Ie. Super , leave entitlements, TPAs etc . Then it has to get a pending approval from the NRL , to then formally request the roosters for a release .
Not to mention , the fact lawyers and managers , all have to look over the various paperwork for each organisation, which contrary to popular belief , probably isn’t that person sole job , so it’s probably sitting in a pile .
This stuff takes time .
“The longer this takes the more we don’t have him” , comes across as extremely desperate .
Also there’s heaps of other players available. As good as him . Nope , but definitely an improvement so relax

The kid has played an extra 2 months this year. Let him have a break. When the time is right he will sign with whoever he feels is the right destination. There is nothing to talk about so majority of these journalists are talking complete rubbish to get a story. The talk on this forum about enforcing deadlines and he is not loyal and he is playing us is completely stupid and unfounded. He is 23 and this next contract goes a long way to securing his future, so understand it, respect it and expect it to take time.

That's all fine, except we have a $1m (at least) to spend on a player, those $'s are for top shelf talent and the season is nearly upon us (preseason has started) we need to get that player if any are available into our system and understanding Madges vision, otherwise we miss the boat.
I will be corrected here, but that $1m will still need to be spent, so what do we do with it?
I think he has had enough time to make a decision, we have ticked all his boxes, I mean it is a game of footy afterall.
We need to know and move on, with him or without him.

@TigerWest I agree to a certain extent but he has just finished the rep season and having a short break and now into negotiations. If we were chasing a million dollar player who finished outside the 8 and has been on a 3month siesta then I would be concerned. The only factual evidence we have right now as @Strongee has said is that we are meeting with his agent this coming week to further negotiate and discuss the offer. It's business, you don't jump at the first offer you see right? It's his future give him a chance to secure it

We should all be grateful we are in the discussion. We have been laughed at for being a chance to sign these types of players over the years. Personally it shows where we are at and where we are heading to be able to be in the conversation plus we are signing quality youth from other teams trying to retain.

Meh

Latrell has signed... ive heard enough rumours from various people and people on this forum who r close to the club that he has signed...

Just ignore any media dribble

Where’s Mulder and Scully when you need them?

I never knew that there were so many conspiracy theorists around. Great fun.

Do yourself a favor and have a lie down because you clearly don't know what's going on.

@willow what are your thoughts on the LM situation Willow? You always seen quite knowledgeable and on the ball with all this

Nothing fast is happening for a reason - LM is on holidays and talks will ramp up this week. One visit to Taree wasn't necessarily going to get him over the line. Some players take weeks/months to work out a deal. There's an element of impatience on here like people think a contract just has a monetary value printed on it and a "please sign here" line. There's more to it than that and there will no doubt be TPA's worked into it for players on LM's stature.

@willow Exactly what I think. I think the club is doing a great job in the way they have handled the off-season so far

We have
- a premiership winning and coach of the #1 International team
- a coach who made GI one of the best fbs in the game
- a brand new coe that will be world class
- a bunch of great juniors recently signed. Building a strong team.
- the roosters recruitment manger who has a good personal relationship
- a good CEO and one of the richest benefactors (hopefully still doing tpas)
- current chair is the sponsor of the blues and has a lot of powerful connections
- one of the great regonisable players in benji that kids like latrell grew up watching
- money in the cap

we've got a lot more going for us than we think

@willow didn’t claim to have any Direct insight. There Seems to be a bit of chatter in other communities that things are different to what has been suggested. We don’t exactly have a great track record last 8 years.

Are you confident?

@TheDaBoss Mate do you think this will be sorted this coming week or still a few weeks away?

He doesn’t know anymore than the rest of us. It’s the blind leading the blind.

Aren't they meeting next week...According to his manager and our chair they are..

Called off..?

BTW it would be good if we could keep the Latrell Mitchell discussion in the Latrell Mitchell thread..just a thought..

That’s the other thing that has me really questioning this one... So far a bunch of new people have popped up suggesting it’s done which typically does not bode well

Just been told both Brimson and Arrow have re signed with the Titans. Not a trusted source though just my mate from up in the GC.

Just look at it logically...

Tigers are the only ones with the cash to sign him.

Cowboys are out...
Bulldogs are out...
Souths...maybe, but they are wanting to replace Burgess and could be looking at Semi and/or Addo-Carr...unlikely, but a potential smokey, however the Roosters said they wouldn't release him to Souths.

Mitchell has been in Taree and is now in QLD visiting family.

We've met with him once and we are meeting with him again next week...that's 2 meetings against 1 with the Cowboys, 1 with the Bulldogs and NONE with other clubs. The second meeting doesn't happen unless it's a good chance of happening.

News like this is big, so it gets leaked...we would have already heard news reports about him meeting with other clubs if there was any truth to it.

The reality is, we are the only horse in this race and I'd be surprised if we didn't have his signature by next week or the week after once the fine print has been sorted.
