So no media leaks so I’m assuming no signing announcements today. No big surprise, Justin Pascoe is one let down after another. Is anyone else waiting for this CoExcellence Plan to fall over?

So if there's no signing announced today it will just be further evidence that the bloke is a total amateur....way out of his depth as a CEO


I don’t think you understand the process. NRL have to approve the release then approve the new contract etc takes time. Especially if there’s any TPA’s

What's the worry with TPA? They're between player and third party nothing to do with clubs according to the NRL?

Mate as far as recruitment goes, my glass has been empty for a long long time. We just never get it right. I don’t know why but everything we touch recruitment wise turns to crap

I am pretty sure that you knew that I wasn't having a dig, as I am also generally positive, but after eight years of no finals, my glass is also leaning at the edge of the tipping point.

Absolutely mate. Didn’t take it as a dig at all. But you’re right! I am negative about this aspect of our club. Sounds like you are feeling the same. But I don’t know the answers or the root cause. I’m sure everyone is doing all they can to develop an outstanding roster but it’s just falling flat.

I do have a theory though.

I think we have a deep cultural problem. I think failing and falling short of the mark are ingrained in our DNA. We fall at the last hurdle so often in many ways:
1. Finish just out of the eight
2. Lose consistently in golden point
3. Get run down and lose in dying minutes
4. Don’t seal the deal with players we really want
5. Target old or average players because we think they’ll say yes
6. Not get the most out of new recruits
7. Can’t turn around the mindsets of good players wanting out.

There is a thread that runs through all of this - when it really matters, we don’t believe we can compete with the best. It’s perhaps subconscious, but it’s there.

I work with organisations daily about improving and shifting culture. I know my stuff here. I think the WestsTigers need to strip back everything and look deeply into their culture of expectation. It may sound a bit theoretical but it works. Change the culture, change behaviour, change attitudes, change results.

Currently in nearly every tight or important moment, on or off field, we lose. We have to win those moments. It’s culture and mindset that determines the ability to win in those moments. Tigers need to start here. In my humble opinion of course.

Mate, don't always agree with your POV but this is just about the post of the year for me. In those 7 points you've summarised perfectly just what is wrong in this club. We all love the WT but it does no harm at all to recognise our weaknesses and you've done that brilliantly.

I think this starts once the Cleary legacy is gone. Madge knows how to build a team and win a comp.

This is the difference between Melbourne and us - compare this to the Matterson fiasco. They lay out the conditions and timing of release and then will obviously negotiate to come out reasonably well whereas we throw our hands in the air, sook about having players not wanting to be here and then cave in with no conditions.

You're right he didn't. He did, however, say that we'd be signing someone with speed who could score tries.

I fail to see how releasing JAC at the end of the 2020 season constitutes genuine compassion. Countless players in recent years have been granted early releases, often from the commencement of the next season. Obviously Josh wants to and needs to move now for the good of his family.

There will be a lot more on offer at the end of 2020. Classier players, and more clubs cashed up. Melbourne are no fools. We need to go in hard immediately or get trampled in the rush at the end of 2020.

I get comfort from the signing of Scott Prince many years ago.
Yes he had the talent , however was also injury prone and probably never delivered on his potential .
I don’t think he was all that keen to sign with us , however he had a point to prove and ended up being instrumental in our 2005 glory .
Our other recruits that year were not big name signings (Phats and Elford come to mind , perhaps Patty too).
They were just solid first graders with a point to prove and stepped up accordingly.
It’s all about the attitude and with our current coaching staff, regardless of who we end up signing, they will bring out the best of those who wear our colours

Another player that’s comes to mind that didn’t want I join the tigers was Todd Payten as he got pushed out of the roosters and sheens signed him up because he knew him from his junior days at raiders

Yep that’s exactly what this is . It’s the worst time for exposure . So best time to slide things into the news cycle . Pretty smart really
