I don’t remember anyone complaining when he signed Cleary. I’ve been on this forum for a decade and never seen the forum collectively fawn over anyone the way it did over Ivan. The forum was on the bus and loved it. No one saw what he did coming, and to think Pascoe should have is ridiculous. The rest i’ll grant you, but the Cleary thing is rubbish.


Agreed and even if Cleary was a poor decision inhindsight, at least it meant getting rid of Taylor.

My goodness the Taylor days were very dark times indeed.

Any better since? We’ve never recovered since losing Tedesco.


Well Taylor took Tigers teams containing Tedesco to 15th, 9th & 14th.

In his first year Madge took a much weaker squad to 9th. IMO clearly much better. Add to that improved board an d now improved fitness & coaching staff, things are IMO on the improve.

15th and 9th. He was sacked 3 weeks into his third season.

All I heard when he was coach was that he needed to go because no stars would come to play under him. He went and we still can’t sign them.....

Well he should never go on holidays I guess, just in case someone decides to leave.

We have 3 home grounds (Tamworth and the Magic round at Lang Park are not considered to be home grounds) - I think 17 is an exaggeration on your part.

He cost us money, yes - he made a mistake yes... I guess you have never made a mistake, apart from saying MCK is a beast.

I would say that he MIGHT have made a suggestion that Cleary could be the coach - I would also say that it would have been approved by the Board, so don't just single one person out on this should be the equation.

So... "He’s a piss poor CEO" is only your opinion..I think you are incorrect.

He went on holidays mid season.

Also Cleary was his mate so I think it was a little more than a suggestion.

If you made a mistake at work that cost the company 700k would you keep your job?

Stars? We got Reynolds, Packer, Matulino to come. IMO not ***stars*** but all established rep players (obviously paid overs for all of them). This whole argument about not being able to sign ***stars*** is a flawed argument.

Firstly, what is a "star"? Is it a rep player? If so the trio above are "stars" and I think it is obviously possible to sign players of this standard, and IMO players standard of Moylan etc, if we pay overs and do we want players of that standard if we pay reynolds type money.

If by star we mean Latrell/JAC, how often do they seriously become available?

Roll into this the fact that we also need the salary cap stars to align at a time that "stars" are available.

Reynolds, Packer etc weren’t the kind of quality that would have been beyond Taylor I don’t think. Pointless argument cos we’ll never know.

Im not arguing that Taylor could or couldnt attract those players, but clearly we CAN attract those standard of players, but at what cost?

Last week he forgot to put the garbage out, He signed Madge and then let him go holidays, Didn't comb his hair for the Q & A, He signed Jennings not Madge etc.

I think he is responsible for the crown of thorns starfish, global warming and just about everything else that is dodgy.

You guys should start a petition - we want a CEO.

You believe cap management has changed? Is that why Madge has spent the last 12 months wading through Cleary’s mess. Virtually no one he signed going into 2018 is of any value to this club besides Thompson. The player we all thought was the most insignificant signing at the time.

I don’t remember anyone complaining when he signed Cleary. I’ve been on this forum for a decade and never seen the forum collectively fawn over anyone the way it did over Ivan. The forum was on the bus and loved it. No one saw what he did coming, and to think Pascoe should have is ridiculous. The rest i’ll grant you, but the Cleary thing is rubbish.


Agreed and even if Cleary was a poor decision inhindsight, at least it meant getting rid of Taylor.

Not really, Madge is a better coach but his ability to attract talent is on par with JT.

What do you deem to be the deep seated problems deeper than Taylor? Board (totally changed), fitness staff(totally changed), coaching staff (totally changed), finances (totally changed), Salary cap management (totally different)?


You believe cap management has changed? Is that why Madge has spent the last 12 months wading through Cleary’s mess. Virtually no one he signed going into 2018 is of any value to this club besides Thompson. The player we all thought was the most insignificant signing at the time.

I definitely think salary cap management has changed under Madge and I think you might actually be arguing a case for his improved cap management.

Under Madge, despite Cleary's cesspit that he left us with, he has managed to squeeze around $1.2M to play with. Despite this we have NOT signed a declining rep standard player (think Merrin, Moylan, Bird etc in the mould of Reynolds/Packer) on massive overs as Cleary did nor have we signed any plodders (think Capewell in the mould of Rochow et al).

We have signed promising kids (resignings and the Parra Kiddo), rising mid tier players (leilua) at good value and still left spots on the squad open.

IMO this is a very positive change in the management of the cap and squad.

Yes I'd love a LM or JAC but if they are not available (and rarely are) then the way Madge is going about it is the best IMO. Its at least a positive.

I was at the cricket today in a brewers box and had a chat with a representative of a grand final losing team from down south. His opinion was no team ( except Roosters ) has ever won a grand final by buying elite players. He asked me to name one team who has and the players they bought who won them a grand final. Can anyone? His opinion was as soon as you pay overs for a superstar, the rest of the team resents the massive paypacket. He reckons if you bring young players in to a team where some players are already on a big contract, the younger players aspire to that level. Once you just bring someone in an a massive contract, everyone else is instantly relegated to second class. Just his opinion.

The same is in the corporate world. U bring in a contractor on good coin and the rest resent them.
