Even though we are discussing speed in our backline and who would provide it,I cant help but ask who is going to distribute the ball form dummy half in a fast and precise manner....it starts from there and flows along the backline,we know what happens when we get slow ball from dummy half..

does anyone have an update on Liddle and do we think JR pending will be DH or Mbye.?

Ziggy you make too much sense.

thanks mate...it beats arguing just for the sake of it...

I guess that the club is going to once again hedge their bets that once Liddle is fit he'll be right. Simpkin will be in the lower grades plying his trade, hopefully he is the real deal.

What I was asking CB,if Liddle isn't fit to start which he definitely wont be,do people think the hooker role will be Mbye or JR to start in rnd one....

I would think JR will be the starting hooker if fit and is allowed to play by the NRL.

In my opinion, JR didn’t look at all comfortable playing hooker last year.

He is an effective runner from dummy half if there is a quick play-the-ball but his passing from the ground is ordinary at best. He also doesn’t seem to engage the markers nor does he bring players on to the ball. The other concern has to be his body over a full season. Will he be able to handle 50+ tackles a game? The evidence of the past two years would seem to suggest otherwise.

I think Mbye is the better option and if he plays well, he would have to be an outside chance of playing hooker for Queensland given they have manufactured Hunt into that role in the past - so there is incentive.

Definitely agree. Don’t think Reynolds has the motor to defend at hooker for 80. A few articles mentioned Mbye was the early favourite for the position, which especially makes sense if BJ is signed and playing centre.
Reynolds will be on a bench possibly including Stefano, Mikaele and Packer I reckon. Funnily can’t find a spot for Chee Kam at this stage if Packer moves back into the side.

Will need a second rower on the bench...big Lucy ain’t playing 80

Why?

You are assuming he will have learnt nothing, and has not improved his fitness in a whole off season.

Wonder why he has bothered.

If he is smart he'll also realise they are treating him like that to serve their own means, not his. If they treated him poorly to start off with they're capable of it again.

On that premise, he could play anywhere so long as he had a few training runs. In my opinion, his passing from five-eight is average at best and he can’t pass effectively right to left - I wonder how long he has trained there?

Not to mention that he is 30 years of age. I don’t believe he is getting any better or will learn new tricks.

The $$$ for both the players named are very worrying.

If we are matchingbthan thats definitely overs for a good entre past his.prime and an average irst grader i
At best

BJ is only 28. Hardly past his prime. AD played fullback in 3 finals last year. Do you really think they would out an average first grader at fullback for a finals series?

Apparently Souths think hel be a really good 5/8 so when Benji retires then who knows. I say try and get both and Stefano. Then apart from hooker the side looks half decent .

Talau and momo are also good 5/8 prospects to replace Benji next year...on a lot less than $600k (reported salary for AD next year)

I would be more concerned with one of our wingers on a reported $450k per year. Clearly overpaid and on rep money which he is not ![alt text](image url)

When is he going to ESL.....I wish someone would take JRey off our hands....we dont need a high paid cheerleader

Apparently Newcastle are in on AD and/or AJ too.

Wouldn't it be funny if they pip us for either.

I can see them getting AJ . He’s more suited to thier backline issues . I don’t see Douehi going there . To do what ? Ride the pine ? He’s better off staying where he is , if that’s the case

I think you have to put Mbye there. JR can play off the bench and get 20 minutes a game or something like that and we can see how he goes.

Maybe he will do well in the role because he has had all off season playing there. You are correct though and it doesn't look promising.

Thats correct. Must remember that he arked up about his contract at the perfect time when Teddy, Woods and Moses had left the building. Used Parra as a bargaining chip. Coach tried to stop the rot and get a good news story going. That was resigning Nofo long term on $450k a season. Another example of desperate spending. Madge has corrected that which will take our club forward.

We are seeing some forward movement in the signing of younger players with potential rather than older players who will show the younger ones how to phase into retirement.
I think there are many fans who would have the patience and understanding to hang in while the club continues to take baby steps in the rebuilding process.

He's just not a dummy half. It sounds strange given he's a 5/8 but his passing just isn't up to it. Benji stepped in with almost zero practice and was a million time better. I think Mbye would be the better option but it would be nice to have an 80 minute hooker. Chee Kam and 3 big guys on the bench would be good to watch.

Good luck to him but I look forward to our young wingers displacing him this year. This would be a big win for WTs and it's junior development pathways.
