Thats correct. Must remember that he arked up about his contract at the perfect time when Teddy, Woods and Moses had left the building. Used Parra as a bargaining chip. Coach tried to stop the rot and get a good news story going. That was resigning Nofo long term on $450k a season. Another example of desperate spending. Madge has corrected that which will take our club forward.

We are seeing some forward movement in the signing of younger players with potential rather than older players who will show the younger ones how to phase into retirement.
I think there are many fans who would have the patience and understanding to hang in while the club continues to take baby steps in the rebuilding process.

Maybe that's it....we need to sign babies as a longer term investment. Should come cheap.

Hopefully commonsense will prevail and Madge will choose Thompson before Jennings. Jennings did nothing last season to hold a place in the starting line up for the beginning of this season, imo. Thompson always gives his best.

Yeah I tend to agree with you. But Madge seems to like Jennings for some reason.

He was good in 2018. Looked like a diff player in 2019. I think with him playing outside Leilua or Mbye and having lost a stack of weight he'll be much better this year.

Also the rule changes have a negative effect on CT and Nofo.

Even though we are discussing speed in our backline and who would provide it,I cant help but ask who is going to distribute the ball form dummy half in a fast and precise manner....it starts from there and flows along the backline,we know what happens when we get slow ball from dummy half..

I guess that the club is going to once again hedge their bets that once Liddle is fit he'll be right. Simpkin will be in the lower grades plying his trade, hopefully he is the real deal.

What I was asking CB,if Liddle isn't fit to start which he definitely wont be,do people think the hooker role will be Mbye or JR to start in rnd one....

I would think JR will be the starting hooker if fit and is allowed to play by the NRL.

In my opinion, JR didn’t look at all comfortable playing hooker last year.

He is an effective runner from dummy half if there is a quick play-the-ball but his passing from the ground is ordinary at best. He also doesn’t seem to engage the markers nor does he bring players on to the ball. The other concern has to be his body over a full season. Will he be able to handle 50+ tackles a game? The evidence of the past two years would seem to suggest otherwise.

I think Mbye is the better option and if he plays well, he would have to be an outside chance of playing hooker for Queensland given they have manufactured Hunt into that role in the past - so there is incentive.

I think you have to put Mbye there. JR can play off the bench and get 20 minutes a game or something like that and we can see how he goes.


Either way they are both makeshift hookers and neither are very good at the role. We really needed to have sourced out a specialist rake, imo. It’s too important a position to be throwing centres and five eighths in there and hoping they will perform.

I understand that we desperately needed to bolster our pack and backline, but not chasing a specialist hooker while we had the cash this off season is a very odd decision that may well come back to bite us.

And how long do you then hold that specialist hooker? Doubt they would take a 12 month contract and in my view it would be a wasted space having them any longer with Simpkin and Liddle vying for the role in 2021. All teams have issues with their spine at some time or another, like Manly and Fainu. Difference here is I doubt Fainu will be back this season (or next) and will likely sign on with the Long Bay Pelicans.

Maybe it's just me, I would only want one of BJ or AD. I think we need a specialist winger and fullback more than a utility or centre and spots are limited.

Having said that, both are potential upgrades and I see the attraction.

I have to agree mate. We need to stop buying named players past their prime.

All the talk is Talau is a gun, why spend big bucks on someone to block his pathway. I also think Momo has the potential to be as good as bj.
