No to cooper.
A hard hitting defensive backrower would be my pick. Dont know what is out there though

Ben Teo anyone??

I had to actually build myself up to even type the name...

Fantastic player but I’ve got no idea how he’s been going in the last few years. He’s 33 now but he’s played NRL at the highest level so he could still do well I think

Quade Cooper? The bloke is hopeless at his chosen sport let alone RL. No Thank You. Might as well pull John Eales out of retirement.
Would rather actually for once sign a decent rugby league player, look into that idea Madge........

Teo had one good year with plenty of dross mixed in. Would pass on him as well.
Wonder if there's any decent talent off contract for next year? We should have a bit of cash to splurge for '21.

Apparently the main reason Madge called Coopers manager is because he also manages SBW, and Madge being the NZ coach was inquiring about his availability for future NZ games. Doesn’t hurt to ask I guess

Not sure why Madge would want SBW in his NZ Test side anyhow though. He looked pretty ordinary in ESL this year. Shoulder-charge was his main talent in his time in the NRL, can no longer get away with them. Not sure what his benefit would be TBH.

Yeah he didn’t look great but could be good just to have at camp a lot of the younger NZ boys would’ve looked up to him.

I think this would be it. He hardly played ru for the last 2 years as his body was busted.

Now that there is going to be alot of belt-tightening around sport I wonder if this sort of "excess fat" will be weeded out ie: getting "mentors" in from around the globe and putting them up in 5-star accommodation with pretty much an open chequebook at their disposal for expenses etc.

Very true. We did the same thing, Matheson Johns went to the nines as a backup but mostly just to be around the team I think. Never got a run but being around some NRL guys would’ve been good for him, that kind of stuff may be frowned upon in the future

Might be wrong about this but can't recall us having any joy out of any RU players we/ve signed over the years. Last one I recall was a Sevens guy we signed a few seasons back, played a few reserve grade games without any real distinction then went back to Rugby and represented Australia in international Rugby Sevens. Quade might be good for a short term deal but he's no spring chicken any more.

Lote came back from union and was good for us in 2010-2011

I miss Tuiaki. What a career he would’ve had.

He was already having it. He was 26. I don’t think he would have stuck around anyway. His heart was in rugby

He Had a few more good years in him. That 2009 season was unreal he would’ve kept getting better.

I'd completely forgotten about Taniela and his Rugby background. Don't see any Tuiaki's in the current bunch on offer unfortunately.

I think we should go hard for tavita Pangia jr hes an aggressive beast and I reakon broncos would let him go

Definitely the kind of player Madge could turn into a class forward. Would probably ask for big money so would be a risk with his inconsistent performances but could be a good signing for sure.
