Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Personally when looking at our squad for next year I see the following still required for the squad of 30

1 Prop
2 Backrowers
2 Hookers
2 outside backs including 1 who can play FB
1 HB (with gamble as backup 5/8

I personally don't care what order they sign them in as long as they sign the best ones they can for the money they have.

To me it looks like Cleary is doing what he did at Warriros and Penrith and that is building really good depth. We have tried the 3 or 4 star players and not much depth and that is doing nothing for us. You can tell he is trying to make the squad win games even when others are injured

Rumours are that Wests Tigers have offered Hull FC back Chris Naughton a contract. Newcastle too apparently have also offered him a contract. Apparently he wants to move to Australia for "compassionate reasons", to do with his partner being homesick I think.

Wests Tigers are also allegedly chasing off contract Titans forward Morgan Boyle, along with some other clubs.

I don't know how good these players are, but all these signings and possible signings sure is a nice change for a Wests Tigers supporter. Exciting.

Curtis Naughton Profile
Curtis Naughton is a pacey outside back who is equally adept on the wing or at full-back. Starting his career at Bradford Bulls, making one Super League appearance for the West Yorkshire side as a 19-year-old. He moved with his family to Australia in 2014 and signed for NRL giants Sydney Roosters. After a year playing for the Roosters’ Academy side, Naughton returned to England to join the Black and Whites and made an immediate impact. He scored two hat-tricks in 2015 against Castleford Tigers and St Helens respectively and went on to establish himself as a first-team player again in 2016.

Morgan Boyle
Date of Birth:17-07-1996
Height:194cm
Weight:111kg
Position😛rop
Morgan Boyle's impressive form for the Raiders in junior grades saw the Gold Coast Titans sign the 194cm prop ahead of the 2016 season. After a season in the U20s program, Boyle has trained with the top squad over the 2016-2017 pre-season, not looking out of place alongside the likes of Ryan James, David Shillington and Zeb Taia. Boyle is the son of former Raider David Boyle, the nephew of Green Machine legend Jason Croker and his sister, Millie, is a rising star of Australian Women's Rugby.

We have little to no depth in the backs, especially with genuine pace. While I don't believe Gordon would be good for us, Korobeite, Watson and Rona would walk into our NRL team.

Correct and we need backup players even it is just to put some pressure on the top squad.
Also if SG is correct we still have nearly 3 million of cap space available.
That's enough for a couple more backs and another prop and secondrower.

2 more hookers? do you want to start a massage parlour or something.
We have MMc and Liddle how many more do you want?
Do you want to go back when we had Farah, Ballin, Cherrington and Liddle?

McIlwrick hasn't signed yet has he? I presumed we want three hookers in the 30 squad, (and maybe another who is a utility who could do it if we got bad luck with injuries). I think we only have Liddle signed atm, though I thought I read a contract was offered to Mc. Am hoping he does sign, Mc I think would compliment our moulding team well.

Hmm Tigers get linked to everyone because we have cap space, and how surprising, Newcastle get linked to the same players.

We have signed 1 hooker for 2018 Liddle. We have an intention of playing 2 hookers in our 17 and in a 30 man squad therefore you need 3 so yes 2 more hookers. I am happy that 1 of them can be Mccilwrick but he hasnt signed

Also when we had farah ballin cherrington and liddle we needed halatau and rankin to play hooker most of the year so im not sure if your trying to say we have too many or not enough

Bit strange that MMc hasnt be announced yet was apparently in the works since before the Q & A sessions, so maybe we are looking at another option Watson i presume also wouldnt mind having Cherrington back think he could do a job.

Too late on Cherrington as he has gone to the Warriors.

Have watched Boyle in a couple of televised games, not the most consistent but still young and could develop into a solid forward.

Why would we need Boyle? We have tatula, felise and twal already. We need a experienced prop on the bench.

I think we have enough experience. We need more quality players. If Boyle is a quality player then have a go at him.

Hes not a quality player yet.

Can you imagine if we swap packer/matulino with twal and felise? Defensive issues would be created. Brenton lawrence is a good defender. Id take him for two years. By then Twal and felise would be ready.
