Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If we do sign CHN, I think we’re one impact prop away from having one of the games best forward packs in 2021, a Martin Taupau/ Joseph Paulo type signing

Both Christian Welch and Herman Ese’ese are off contract end of the year and do seem gettable, if we can nab Welch that would be great but both would be exceptional

8. Josh Ailola
9. Jacob Liddle/ Simpkin
10. Christian Welch
11. Corey Heirra Nara
12. Luciano Leilua
13. Alex Twal

Bench
14. Stefano Utoikamanu
15. Herman Ese’ese
16. Shawn Blore
17. Thomas Mikale

With depth along the lines of Garner, Esienhuth, Musgrove, Packer (for one season) and Clarke etc

With the money inherited once McQueen, Reynolds, Packer and Mbye (even tho is playing decent) along with the 300 odd k we get from the Farah situation - we have a big cash flow to go get some X factor in the backs

Ngl though the idea of Harry Grant steering around that forward pack is the biggest tease, if Smith goes on I’d try tempt him and offer that Reynolds contract straight to him but once again I think it’s a pipe dream and he’ll be back at Melbourne next year

Yeah the big issue is our depth. Happy to keep Eiso and McIntyre for that. CHN and a good prop would be fantastic.

I’m just gonna state this as well, if we can trade Foran for Reynolds we pull the trigger on that ASAP

Foran and Brooks has so much potential it amazes me what they’re capable of, put them behind a pack like that ^^ and we’re no question making the top 8

Player managers shouldn’t be allowed to manage coaches simple as that

Won't stop them finding way around it. Player agent companies will probably just set up a second business with a dedicated employee to manage the coaches and liaise with the former to negotiate moves.

I don't like the talk of Benji being shipped around. Surely the best thing for all concerned is for him to fish his career as a Tiger.

Reynolds is going well at the moment but who knows what could happen over the course of the season.

If genuine we should refuse that release every day of the week. Reynolds hasn't put together an uninjured season in a long time. I think Benji will still be needed this season.

Its genuine i have a mate that is a players agent and he does not talk BS.

All player agents would be full of BS it would be safe to say.
Benji would get a gig at 3 or 4 teams if he was really keen to get a game at another club.

Well let's see what transpires, just giving other forum members a heads up, comments like yours ensure i should not share reliable information in future.

I do believe that the manager is looking for a quick buck and been testing the waters and Benji has stated no harm in asking otherwise why would he?
This Information also has got out, questions no doubt asked by Club/Madge that's why a quick denial not to disrupt the playing group or fans.

Don't penalize the masses!
No need for a hissy, player managers are not really universally recognised as martyrs of goodwill and honesty.
If you have info, that's great. Whether it materializes.......let's wait and see.

SIX MILLION REASONS WHY THE TIGERS HAVEN’T FORGIVEN CLEARY

There’s’ still plenty of ill-feeling between the Wests Tigers and Penrith almost two years on from the departure of Ivan Cleary.

The reason? For starters, try the four-year contracts worth a collective $6 million for Russell Packer and Josh Reynolds.

With all the current talk about player agents managing coaches and gaining too much control at clubs it’s worth remembering Cleary is managed by the same company as Packer and Reynolds.

Cleary then jumped off the bus to re-join the Panthers at the end of 2018 while Packer and Reynolds remain at Concord until the end of 2021.

It’s bent the Tigers salary cap ridiculously out of shape and meant the club has been trying to shift Packer for the last 18 months since Michael Maguire arrived.

Packer still hasn’t forgiven Cleary for leaving the way he did and neither has Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe, the man who recruited the coach to Concord.

Once great mates who were regulars on family holidays together, the pair still haven’t spoken since Cleary quit the club with two years remaining on his contract.

Reynolds has ripped in at training to fight his way back into the NRL and gets a crack against Nathan Cleary when the Tigers host Penrith at BankWest on Saturday night.

The NRL is currently having a close look at stopping player agents from managing coaches.

I had forgotten that bit about Cleary being managed by the same Agent as Packer and Reynolds - puts a whole different slant on those deals. Here I was thinking Ivan was just stupid and desperate at the time - what a snake, I dislike him even more now and can understand why Pascoe would feel betrayed and not want to speak to him.

Pascoe must really burn at how IC treated WTs and their friendship.

Another throttling this weekend would be nice, not sure if it's going to pan out that way though.

IMO if we are looking to sign Foran we have learnt nothing from the signing of JR, and people are going to have the argument what if we sign Foran on a lowish deal. Foran is not coming here on a low ball deal, we dont have the capability to lure players on a good/low deal atm.

McIntyre has demonstrated in his two games that he is an NRL 13, meaning Twal next year can move back to prop.

Think your right there. With a bit more match fitness under his belt he could get there.
A bit of a cross between Radley and Nathan Brown.
Probably doesn’t have the speed of Radley and Murray though, that does come in handy. But would be quicker than Twal that’s for sure.

Twal could still play 60-70mins at Prop which would allow us the continually rotate our impact players as the game goes on.

I noticed McIntyre ball-playing against the Dogs, which struck me as showing a fair bit of confidence given it was only his second NRL match. If he does turn out to be a ball player he would fit the bill at #13.

No thanks, Reynolds works well with Brooks. Foran would be on similar coin, is just as injury prone and we don't know how he would link with Brooks.

I don’t understand why people think Foran would cost so much? He’s off contract and I doubt he gets many offers, and the offers he would get would not be for very much a season.

He’s gonna have no choice but to accept a much lower value contract simple as that. If some other club offers him massive money that’s their mistake

Johnston and now Foran

If we are going to talk about suggestions and rumours can we please up the level of playing stock we talk about

We’re gonna need forwards for next year a lot of them are off contract. Happy to keep McIntyre, Eisenhuth and Seyfarth so add CHN and another good prop and it’s a really solid forward pack.

I have always believed he is an NRL player. The ball playing, running into that hole off the Brooks pass, his quick play the balls and tackling technique make him a great 13.

I'll become a criminal if we sign Johnston ....

With stefano coming next year I think u we could get CHN and ESE ESE , that would give us a great pack with some good depth , in blore , Garner , and the rest we have now . Need a 5/8 and a class outside back, so we only need 4 class signings , so with all that are going we should have the cash to sign them easily.

Here’s my argument for Foran, he’s no doubt a better football player then Reynolds and they both come off contract the same year so it’s we’re either with Reynolds or Foran for this and next year

Foran would offer another dimension to our attack with his running and kicking game and defensively we all know Foran is one of the best defensive halves in the game along with Brooks, it will allow for Brooks to also have less responsibility and play his natural game and take the line on more often

At the end of the day, I think we’d be a better football team with Foran in our side than Reynolds it’s as simple as that - along with the idea that Foran is a premiership winner with experience and has played for his country and next year will be a contract year so he’ll be trying to justify his price tag

Realistically it will be very difficult to make 4 class signings. 1 or 2 would be good. We have 7 spots to fill so the money will have to be spread out, some guys may leave at seasons ends who are contracted as well. At least Madge has some decent money to work with.

@teddy23 I see your points but i just dont see Foran coming to us on a cut price deal, which would be the only way i could see us taking the risk on that he brings. Theres no doubt Foran is a better footballer than JR when fit, in any event i think Foran is of contract this year JR next year. So we'd need to shift JR which we havent had any nibbles for yet to accommodate Foran. What price tag would you think is acceptable for Foran given his injury worries? I would say $400k is the ceiling in my mind someone like the Warriors probably would want to risk more than that. Just my opinion good footballer very injury prone not worth the coin he's on at the dogs obviously.
