Isaiah Papali’i looking for a new club, wants to play second row. Could be a decent, cheap signing to play as a bench second rower if we don’t sign a high profile player there. He’s only 21 and isn’t a bad player at all.

I would take him in a second, strong carries in short stints and with youth on his side Madge would get the best out of him.

The worst recent recruitment mistake the club made was letting Papenheuzen walk before they had an answer from Tedesco. Hopefully they are on the right track now with Madge signing quality youngsters and not over paying for the likes of Reynolds, Mbye, Packer and Matulino chasing a quick fix.

Tedesco probably played the club like a violin, he seems like an egotistical, arrogant flog that would do that. Can't fully put the blame on the club if players are sly.

I actually dont think hes any of that...just a very talented young bloke ..yep,self confident for sure, but you have to back yourself ...who saw a club in the roostes that had stable management and coaching staff who cld bring the best out of him,and importantly support players who cld take some of the defensive focus from him and allow him to flourish.
I wld have made exactly the same decision tbh,but given WTs support during his legthy injury periods I wld have been more upfront and honest..and wld be donating $$ to the WTs junior system that enabled him to be the $$$ player he is today.
Were all different...but I still support Teddy despite the past...cant stand Moses or Woods(for different reasons)

Met Teddy a couple of times and observed him socially with Brooks and Moses a few times at my then local pub. Found him to be a real nice young man who engaged.with the public without being arrogant or showy - and was receiving plenty of attention even back then. Agree that he just took a better opportunity at a time when our club gave him the perfect excuse to move on.

NRL 2020: Tigers declare Benji Marshall can play on
Benji Marshall may be 35, but his Wests Tigers teammates believe he can extend his stellar career for another couple of seasons.

Wests Tigers players have urged Benji Marshall to extend his stellar career for another season, declaring the Tigers fan favourite still trains like a teenager.

Off-contract Marshall is yet to decide his future beyond 2020, but his teammates believe the 35-year-old New Zealand veteran still has plenty left in the tank.

Boom hooker Harry Grant sees no reason why Marshall can’t follow in the footsteps of 37-year-old Storm skipper Cameron Smith and play again.

“Smithy is still playing, so I reckon Benji could go another couple of years if he wanted to,” Grant said.

“He is fit as, and he is still sharp.

“What he brings to a footy side is pretty special, so for sure he would be able to go on for another couple of years.”

“What he brings to a footy side is pretty special, so for sure he would be able to go on for another couple of years.”

Marshall may be the oldest player in the Tigers’ squad but he is still doing personal bests in the gym, while his athleticism defies his age.

Prop Josh Aloiai also has no doubts the Kiwis legend can play again next season if his mind is up to completing another pre-season.

“Benji hasn’t had any injuries, he is looking fast, he is mobile – I actually think he could go around a couple more years,” Aloiai said.

“His body is definitely younger than what his age would suggest.”

Aloai expects Marshall to come out firing against his former club Brisbane at Leichhardt Oval on Friday night in his first game at starting five-eighth since being dropped by coach Michael Maguire for three weeks.

“I think Benji will be hungrier than ever, and he will be out there with a chip on his shoulder to prove a point,” he said.

“You can tell someone’s character by the way that they don’t change during adversity, and the way he acted when he got dropped says a lot about him.

“Benji is up there as one of the best attacking halves in the competition, so he is going to do huge things for our attack.

“We are very happy to have him back.”

Marshall will partner Billy Walters in the halves against the Broncos after Luke Brooks was dropped to the bench for his poor performance in a loss to South Sydney.

Maguire expects Brooks to use his demotion as motivation to regain his No.7 jumper.

“That is what we are hoping,” Maguire said.

“You hear all that chatter and no doubt he is aware of that chatter, but one thing I ask him is to go out there and do his job week-in and week-out.

“If he does that, we all know his capabilities.

“He just needs to be at his best every week, and I thought we haven’t seen that at times.

“I’m pretty upfront with my players and I talk to Luke about his game. I have a high regard for him. He is a good player and no doubt he will be back.

“It is just about asking more of him.”

In interviews since then, he hasn't exactly painted his younger days here in a very positive light. Barely given us a mention. He's a champion player, and better opportunities were beckoning absolutely, and we were a shambles of a club, I don't blame him leaving. The way he left should have been handled better.

I can't bring myself to cheer him on watching him play for the Roosters. Watching him play for NSW I still find hard to cheer him on.

Sigh, no no no no no.

Benji would be great for us as an assistant coach, or some other role around the players post this year, but not playing. If it happens, just of course no one mention that publicly or we'll be done again like with Robbie.

I always dislike these articles. What on earth else can they say?

Reporter: Has Benji got another season in him?

Player: Yeah, of course.

Reporter: Can Chris Lawrence play into his 40s?

Player: Lawry is a freak and is fit as anything. I don't see any reason why not?

Would LOVE to actually hear a player say : No, _________ (player) should have retired before. Best years were 5 years ago...

I agree, hopefully Madge does too, we don't want to be heading in to season 2021 with a 36 year old five eighth who was good in 2010, seriously this can't happen.
Benji ,may have a blinder tomorrow, but it won't change my opinion one bit, it is time to move on for gods sake, we can't just keep going around in circles

Exactly. They behave like d&&&cks because they know it will get an immediate result at WTs.Cld u imagine the Storm or Dessie or Wayne putting up with that?
Were a soft touch and need to stand one of these guys up sooner rather than later.
We also need to lobby support of ARL to enforce contracts.
Suli/Moses/Matterson/Cleary..and theres pronbably more..and however many there are,it all stops once you push back on someone and set a precedent

Suli's a totally different thing, he didn't ask to leave, he was stood down for misbehaviour on our terms.

Funny you mention Dessie because he exactly did what Cleary did, he signed with Bulldogs for 2013 in 2011, after winning the comp no less, then Manly sacked him based on allegations he was breaching his agreement trying to get staff and players to join him at Canterbury.

Wayne Bennett has the most famous one of all - the tantrum and departure of Wally Lewis from the Broncos. Then Bennett himself whinged at the Broncos in 2018 about his extension and got sacked.

So yeah I can imagine all those teams and folks being a part of players and/or coaches behaving like idiots and subsequently finding another club.

I guess it all depends on who we can attract externally for 2021. If we can’t sign anyone better, might as well give him another year.

I actually dont think hes any of that…just a very talented young bloke …yep, self confident for sure, but you have to back yourself …who saw a club in the roostes that had stable management and coaching staff who cld bring the best out of him,and importantly support players who cld take some of the defensive focus from him and allow him to flourish.
I wld have made exactly the same decision tbh,but given WTs support during his legthy injury periods I wld have been more upfront and honest…and wld be donating $$ to the WTs junior system that enabled him to be the $$$ player he is today.
Were all different…but I still support Teddy despite the past…cant stand Moses or Woods(for different reasons)

Tedesco's dead to us mate.

I can understand his decision, i.e. the reasons why he would make it, much like I can understand why Hitler decided to invade Russia. Don't support it as a decision though.

Tedesco held off giving the Tigers an answer, and desperate as we were to retain him, we let Paps go and didn't make any Plan B. There is no Plan B when it comes to Tedesco. Then he goes to the Roosters, of all clubs in the world who don't NEED a player of his calibre.

Goes to Roosters for reportedly the same above-table salary Tigers offered him, perhaps even slightly less. Dog.

Could someone please check on @851
Seriously benji you are a legend of the wests tigers. Don't ruin it. I feel this season so far should be your answer.

Gotta tell you I nearly fell off the chair when I read it, but surely we don't need Benji next year, if we do need him we are not making the 8, thanks for caring

Sigh, no no no no no.

Benji would be great for us as an assistant coach, or some other role around the players post this year, but not playing. If it happens, just of course no one mention that publicly or we'll be done again like with Robbie.

Stop ya whinging ?
If Brooks and JRey keep stinking it up having Benji going around again even in limited appearances would be a positive

The problem is Benji will be the starting 6, he has sat out a few games this year, but that was because there was no reserve grade, Benji hasn't played reserve grade at the club, and I don't think he ever will, we don't need a 36 year old next year, we can do better
