The worst recent recruitment mistake the club made was letting Papenheuzen walk before they had an answer from Tedesco. Hopefully they are on the right track now with Madge signing quality youngsters and not over paying for the likes of Reynolds, Mbye, Packer and Matulino chasing a quick fix.

Tedesco probably played the club like a violin, he seems like an egotistical, arrogant flog that would do that. Can't fully put the blame on the club if players are sly.

I actually dont think hes any of that...just a very talented young bloke ..yep,self confident for sure, but you have to back yourself ...who saw a club in the roostes that had stable management and coaching staff who cld bring the best out of him,and importantly support players who cld take some of the defensive focus from him and allow him to flourish.
I wld have made exactly the same decision tbh,but given WTs support during his legthy injury periods I wld have been more upfront and honest..and wld be donating $$ to the WTs junior system that enabled him to be the $$$ player he is today.
Were all different...but I still support Teddy despite the past...cant stand Moses or Woods(for different reasons)

Met Teddy a couple of times and observed him socially with Brooks and Moses a few times at my then local pub. Found him to be a real nice young man who engaged.with the public without being arrogant or showy - and was receiving plenty of attention even back then. Agree that he just took a better opportunity at a time when our club gave him the perfect excuse to move on.

In interviews since then, he hasn't exactly painted his younger days here in a very positive light. Barely given us a mention. He's a champion player, and better opportunities were beckoning absolutely, and we were a shambles of a club, I don't blame him leaving. The way he left should have been handled better.

I can't bring myself to cheer him on watching him play for the Roosters. Watching him play for NSW I still find hard to cheer him on.

Understand from a fan's perspective, but he has earned his success, and I can't begrudge him that.

Tedesco's dead to us mate.

I can understand his decision, i.e. the reasons why he would make it, much like I can understand why Hitler decided to invade Russia. Don't support it as a decision though.

Tedesco held off giving the Tigers an answer, and desperate as we were to retain him, we let Paps go and didn't make any Plan B. There is no Plan B when it comes to Tedesco. Then he goes to the Roosters, of all clubs in the world who don't NEED a player of his calibre.

Goes to Roosters for reportedly the same above-table salary Tigers offered him, perhaps even slightly less. Dog.

Agree. He's dead to us........unless he comes back

Na, I don't like him at all. Dogshot Mitchell or Cam Smith either. But honestly, they are probably the three best in the game.

It's weird, I'm not even sure who my favourite player is anymore. Maybe Twal.

To get back on topic, if I could sign anyone, maybe JWH or TPJ would be who I think would compliment our team. JWH from 3 years ago ideally, but that's not possible.

I said about a month ago that I think Benji wants to play again, @GNR4LIFE said it won't happen the club won't let it, I said it will become a distraction he should just announce his retirement now to stop the media scrum.
I hope @GNR4LIFE is right, because it looks like it has warmed up again, I thought it was only Cam who let it all drag out to make it all about him, Benji if you love this club like you say, just retire and announce it soon.

NRL 2020: Tigers declare Benji Marshall can play on
Benji Marshall may be 35, but his Wests Tigers teammates believe he can extend his stellar career for another couple of seasons.

Wests Tigers players have urged Benji Marshall to extend his stellar career for another season, declaring the Tigers fan favourite still trains like a teenager.

Off-contract Marshall is yet to decide his future beyond 2020, but his teammates believe the 35-year-old New Zealand veteran still has plenty left in the tank.

Boom hooker Harry Grant sees no reason why Marshall can’t follow in the footsteps of 37-year-old Storm skipper Cameron Smith and play again.

“Smithy is still playing, so I reckon Benji could go another couple of years if he wanted to,” Grant said.

“He is fit as, and he is still sharp.

“What he brings to a footy side is pretty special, so for sure he would be able to go on for another couple of years.”

Marshall may be the oldest player in the Tigers’ squad but he is still doing personal bests in the gym, while his athleticism defies his age.

Prop Josh Aloiai also has no doubts the Kiwis legend can play again next season if his mind is up to completing another pre-season.

“Benji hasn’t had any injuries, he is looking fast, he is mobile – I actually think he could go around a couple more years,” Aloiai said.

“His body is definitely younger than what his age would suggest.”

Aloai expects Marshall to come out firing against his former club Brisbane at Leichhardt Oval on Friday night in his first game at starting five-eighth since being dropped by coach Michael Maguire for three weeks.

“I think Benji will be hungrier than ever, and he will be out there with a chip on his shoulder to prove a point,” he said.

“You can tell someone’s character by the way that they don’t change during adversity, and the way he acted when he got dropped says a lot about him.

“Benji is up there as one of the best attacking halves in the competition, so he is going to do huge things for our attack.

“We are very happy to have him back.”

Marshall will partner Billy Walters in the halves against the Broncos after Luke Brooks was dropped to the bench for his poor performance in a loss to South Sydney.

Maguire expects Brooks to use his demotion as motivation to regain his No.7 jumper.

“That is what we are hoping,” Maguire said.

“You hear all that chatter and no doubt he is aware of that chatter, but one thing I ask him is to go out there and do his job week-in and week-out.

“If he does that, we all know his capabilities.

“He just needs to be at his best every week, and I thought we haven’t seen that at times.

“I’m pretty upfront with my players and I talk to Luke about his game. I have a high regard for him. He is a good player and no doubt he will be back.

“It is just about asking more of him.”

Seriously benji you are a legend of the wests tigers. Don't ruin it. I feel this season so far should be your answer.

Gotta tell you I nearly fell off the chair when I read it, but surely we don't need Benji next year, if we do need him we are not making the 8, thanks for caring.

Just maybe we shld have held off on Papy until Tedesco had committed...like a well run club/business surely wld have? Its really about the clubs welfare first. Most other clubs get that.
Having said that,we have a woeful record with tiny but talented fullbacks(Gallant/McDonnell/Mullaney)and whilst theyve all had different coaching staff at WTS,Im unconvinced Papy wld have evolved into the player he is today without the support of stable and patient coaching staff.Thats pretty damning of WTS,and I hope Madge can change this.
Am looking forward to seeing our current backs improve at the same rate as our forwards(Nofa excepted, who has had a killer season)

I am hearing you mate, it is like Benji is this god, he makes everything right, well no he doesn't, and we keep missing the 8 making really dumb decisions, and letting Benji go again is right up there. He could do so much good for the club off the field, but if we want on field success, things need to change, and that starts with making the decision for him if he wants to play again.
I love the bloke, but he gets a free ride for walking out on the club, parading around in a Auckland Blues jersey whilst under contract to us, I mean Farah was castigated, but he never wanted to leave, the moron coaching made it his mission to drive him out, and we are still paying for it.
Benji came back for a one year swan song in 2018, I was happy for him and glad he got a farewell year back where he started, but he is 3 years deep in to that 1 year he was supposed to have, and it shows no sign of abating either.
Saints moved him on 2016 Brisbane in 2017, us slow learners should do the same in 2020

Sigh, no no no no no.

Benji would be great for us as an assistant coach, or some other role around the players post this year, but not playing. If it happens, just of course no one mention that publicly or we'll be done again like with Robbie.

I agree, hopefully Madge does too, we don't want to be heading in to season 2021 with a 36 year old five eighth who was good in 2010, seriously this can't happen.
Benji ,may have a blinder tomorrow, but it won't change my opinion one bit, it is time to move on for gods sake, we can't just keep going around in circles

Stop ya whinging ?
If Brooks and JRey keep stinking it up having Benji going around again even in limited appearances would be a positive

The problem is Benji will be the starting 6, he has sat out a few games this year, but that was because there was no reserve grade, Benji hasn't played reserve grade at the club, and I don't think he ever will, we don't need a 36 year old next year, we can do better

What about back up 7?

We have Brooks, Reynolds, Walters and Madden under contract for next year, MBye can play 6, so can Momo and Doueihi, we could actually buy a decent half, there are plenty of options

Every player earns his success.
Some are grateful for the chances they were given from the outset, Tedesco doesn't seem like one of those.

Benji is close to my fav player, but at some stage your career comes to a end and Benji probably should have moved into the media a couple of years ago. We have to find the next Benji not use the old one

More I see how Maguire and his recruitment team is constructing the roster more it appears that there will be very little in the area of overpriced or long term contract future signings.
They are focused on re-building with young promising well credentialed players and are happy to wait and see how they further develop.
One exception could come in the area where we are lacking if / when Benji calls it a day. And that is why there is some chatter at present in the direction of experienced game manager replacement such as Seizer, Foran and Green.
The other is a forward leader ..... and although there may not be much around at present that’s not off contract ..... I think that there may be something cooking in that department.

Apparently dogs offering Foran 1 year 75 percent cut would it be worth a cheapie?

No thanks, Canterbury would be better served sending the guy to the knackers...We definitely don’t need anymore injury prone players at this club.

Billy Walters has taken up his player option for 2021 and will remain at WT (SMH)

Good, he might surprise given a chance at his natural position, at the very least he can cover the halves next year instead of Benji, and can cover hooker as well, hope he kills it tomorrow

I would like a Brooks Walters combo

Haven't we learned a thing from signing ex Canterbury players? Mbye, Reynolds and now we allegedly have interest in another. The cultures of the two clubs are so different.
