Remember way back when people claimed it was cos of JT ?

I have no doubt he cost us Tedesco, Moses and Woods, his treatment of Farah left a very sour taste in a lot of peoples mouth, the guy has zero people skills, he is not a head coaches backside

JAC left us and put on a stack of weight which gave him a lot more confidence under the high ball. He also benefited from a rule change after leaving, when the refs would not allow you drag a player back into the in goal from a certain distance/when the deemed the tackle complete.
When he played for us he would routinely be picked up from the 5m line and taken into the in goal. That is why eventually Rankin became the preferred choice, at the time it actually made sense. In hindsight we botched it badly.

Somewhat misremembered I would say.

Rankin didn't "become" first-choice, he was first choice. He played 22 matches in 2016. And it's not unreasonable - JAC hadn't played a match at that point and Rankin had been several years in both NRL and ESL.

JAC got his debut because Nofo was injured, then Tedesco got injured and Rankin switched to FB. This gave JAC a run of several matches. Tedesco also played Origin Game 3. When Tedesco came back Rankin reverted to wing, then Tedesco missed the last 3 matches and JAC got the call-up again.

Re: Papenhyzen. Saw him play reserve grade on televised matches a couple of times when he was with us and he was disappointing. Remembered hearing his name on here and he was being lauded for his pace so kept an eye out for him and he didn't do much at all.
Hindsight is 20/20 but cannot recall too many people on here being devastated that we let him go at the time. More so people throwing a hissy now that he has shown a bit of talent recently.

What does Papenhuyzen have to do to convince some on the forum he us the real deal? When Mitchell was SG Ball player of the year, he was HM player of the year. Aust Schools, NSW under age and Storm No 1. Thought of highly by Slater, one of the best ever.

We got Lolohea, the Storm Papenhuyzen. Which club can pick talent?

Let’s not forget almost every club in the league didn’t want to sign him either. Storm got him as their third string fullback and he only get a run due to injuries. He’s done well since then but knowing every club turned him down makes me feel a little better about us letting him go, plus we thought Teddy was staying

Korobeite, JAC and Papenhuyzen. There is a pattern that we don't like pacey backs at WTs. No sir, the slug brigade will do just fine.

None of them WANTED to stay - you just can't seem to comprehend that.

Maybe we need to chain some players to the Latchem Robinson stand - then you won't have to have a go at the club all the time.

Did anyone bother with an exit interview to ask why three very talented players wanted to leave? It appears the Club put all its efforts into the Tedesco basket and we know how that ended.

I note your comment about Hodgson. He was a solid club footballer, nothing more. He will always be remembered for the Tallis tackle. Garry Jack was way above Hodgson and despite him not being at the club, it would be nice to see Pspenhuyzen folliw in his footsteps.

JAC snuck off out the back door while our CEO was on holidays. I'm sure an interview would of been forthcoming if JAC had waited for Pascoe to return (like he was reportedly asked to do). If a rat wants to do the dirty and scurry away under the cover of darkness there is not much you can do to stop it.

Really leaving a player of his quality unsigned when Bellamy is around is asking for that to occur. We failed to secure him.

That's a silly comment, we were the ones that identified JAC from Sharks - Jason Taylor picked him up, no less. And Sharks signed JAC from Souths juniors.

Perhaps the error was signing JAC to a 1-year and not 2-year deal. But he was pretty skinny, I remember his NYC highlights.

I'm not really sure what a club is supposed to do, you debut a young bloke, give him a new deal mid-season and he tells you he's already signed elsewhere. Storm were specifically head-hunting for a speedy winger with Koroibete having signed to rugby. There was a deal for JAC on the table, but as they say, you can only lead a horse to water.

You are kidding. Bloke played 6 Origins, won the comp, runner up one other time. Man of Steel in his first season in ESL after we all agreed his time was up in the NRL. His form in 2004-2006 was electric, go back and watch matches from that time.

It's a shame for Hodgo that our second premiership tilt came after his time, because we could have used that calm, reliable, steadying influence in 2010-2011, plus goal kicking. It's all well and good to have the Prince / Benji / Lui flash attack, but we lacked for fullback in 2010-11. With due respect to Tim Moltzen in 2011, and Mitch Brown was the finals fullback in 2010.

I'm not demonstrating a lack if respect for Hodgo. I get it, club legend and all but take the time to look at around 2.12 at this clip. Allan McIndoe, aka Emerald Express, in the clear down the touchline. Jack in a copy book tackle. Hodgo wouldn't of got anywhere near him. CliffybLyons, Sterling, Ettinghausen. What you would give to have them in your team. Remember how much tougher it was then.

Not quite true. He'd played 4 FG matches when he officially signed with Storm. His debut was Rd 7 2016, which was April 17th. He announced with Storm on 06/Jun/16, which was the day after our Rd 13 loss to Roosters, JAC's 4th match.

I grant you it's possible JAC was negotiating with Storm before 17/Apr/16, but we'll never know.

JUST IN | Canberra Raiders centre Nick Cotric has signed a multi-million dollar deal to join the Canterbury Bulldogs from 2021.

Surely the race for JAC is between us and Souths at this point. Maybe dragons too. He probably won’t make a decision until near the end of the season though

Ah okay, I got the timing a bit wrong.
I thought I remembered he hadn't debuted yet, and there was talk of him going elsewhere so we quickly gave him his debut. My dodgy memory isn't always accurate.

So I guess possibly, considering he had debuted and played a handful of games, when we heard he was considering going elsewhere we put him in FG then to try and encourage him to stay, but too late.

JAC - Nothing has changed from the last update as far as i'm aware. Cotric signing could change things for the Dogs but too early to know. His preference is still Souths, however they would have to move some players on. There is also some resistance from coaching personnel and Souths management as it would block the path for some of their other promising youngsters like Paulo and Suaalii.

He's not opposed to the Tigers and there is some mutual interest but his future club is most dependent on what Melbourne sign or get in return. The JAC situation most likely wont be resolved until the end of the season/off season so it could change 100 times before then. Most clubs are aware of this and are somewhat holding off on actual offers.

CHN - Lots of chatter around a few clubs with him. Dogs are waiting to get their coaching situation sorted (new coach to indicate if they want to keep him) before they make a call. However, CHN could force their hand earlier.

I would say Tigers are a pretty good chance and are definitely interested but it seems new clubs are emerging on a daily basis so it really depends what each club offers CHN and potentially the Dogs in terms of compensation.

This is why we tiger supporters get pissed of , we need a class back and cotric is that type of player , we have cap to buy players yet we either don’t go for them or we get out bid .

I'm pleased we didn't get him. He is a centre. We need fast wingers to complement our good young centres in Talau and Kei.

It would not be wise to be envious of Bulldogs recruitment decisions the past few seasons, because they have been one of the worst in the comp.

I'm not questioning the skill of Garry Jack, I honestly don't think it's a comparison (and even if it was a comparison, they are very different kinds of fullbacks).

You said Hodgo was a solid club footballer, nothing more. I totally disagree, he was a step up from that, and for several years in his career he was in the top 2 or 3 fullbacks going around. Dally M fullback and highest point scorer 2005 - most points ever scored by a fullback in one season.

i thought it would be worth mentioning that MAdge has a soft spot for the warriors

he said our management are in constant talks with the Warriors, and if they see a player in our club that they would like to be loaned to them Madge said he would be happy to oblidge, with no reserve grade this season he says that these types of loan deals are perfect for both clubs

I wonder if White-ant Toddy was referring to Madge when he was interviewed on Foxsports on Wed/Thursday when he said something along the lines of "I keep hearing clubs saying they are happy to loan us players, but nothing eventuates" or something similar.
If the Warriors keep losing games their players will be exiting en-masse back to NZ before long you would think. Their team in 6-8 weeks time will be chocka's with loan players from other clubs IMO.

That is what makes the Forum interesting. We each have differing opinions on players.

Maybe, but our continued failure since proves he was a symptom, not the cause. They still could have stayed if they to wanted as JT was sacked before they signed elsewhere. Surely his sacking would have been a motivating factor to stay on.
