Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Hodgo was way more than a club footballer. I can remember his Wests days and thought he even stood out then in a very poor team. Also loved the club. I ran into him at Bass Hill drive in when he was playing for Parramatta and he was wearing a Wests Tigers jersey. One of my favourites of all time.

or
Ellery Hanley he played for magpies and Balmain not west tigers yey was an absolute great player
Hodgo was a very good footballer but i think tedesco has it over him and Jack for toughness and Brasher for skill in a crap side although Hodgo was tough and could kick goals purely on wests tigers players tedesco gets my nod

Whats wrong with you people?

This is over whether Hodgo was just a club footballer.

Paws was the one going on over Gary Jack and comparing him and now your bringing up Summons, Brasher etc.

Talk about going totally off track.

The WT train rarely stays on the tracks Russ!

You can say that again FtoB - sometimes Loco Lol.

No Russell if you actually read the earlier comment one of the members didnt wish to include Garry Jack as a comparison to Hodgo as he didnt play for west tigers

As long as it is ok with Russell
the comparison was made about only invluding wests tigers comparisons and pointing out Balmain and Wests had good players too and flawed comparrison if only WT players included.
Again noted the response was not run by Russell first... terribly sorry

I was told by a very reliable source that the storm had flown out both JAC and Chance Peni (anyone remember him) to Melbourne and they went behind the Wests Tigers back and toured there facilities way before JAC had even had his first match

Also Russell as Nofo has made 10 errors over 10 games as per statistics i just thought i would get in early and say if he does do another knock on in the play the ball at a crucial time it is ok to recognise and admit it has happened as Foxtel and the stats recognise it... Dont get upset if it is pointed out like in last weeks game vs Souths.
Hope Nofo does hace a blinder by the way
We need the win
Go Tiges

Remember Brett Hodgsons origin debut? One of the best individual origin performances by any player. People only remember the Tallis tackle though

I most remember him for his courage under the high ball. You knew he wasn't gonna flinch. And his streaking support runs up the guts, reeling in an offload and blowing past would-be defenders to plant it under the posts. What a player!

I note your comment about Hodgson. He was a solid club footballer, nothing more.

You are kidding. Bloke played 6 Origins, won the comp, runner up one other time. Man of Steel in his first season in ESL after we all agreed his time was up in the NRL. His form in 2004-2006 was electric, go back and watch matches from that time.

It's a shame for Hodgo that our second premiership tilt came after his time, because we could have used that calm, reliable, steadying influence in 2010-2011, plus goal kicking. It's all well and good to have the Prince / Benji / Lui flash attack, but we lacked for fullback in 2010-11. With due respect to Tim Moltzen in 2011, and Mitch Brown was the finals fullback in 2010.

I'm not demonstrating a lack if respect for Hodgo. I get it, club legend and all but take the time to look at around 2.12 at this clip. Allan McIndoe, aka Emerald Express, in the clear down the touchline. Jack in a copy book tackle. Hodgo wouldn't of got anywhere near him. CliffybLyons, Sterling, Ettinghausen. What you would give to have them in your team. Remember how much tougher it was then.

I'm not questioning the skill of Garry Jack, I honestly don't think it's a comparison (and even if it was a comparison, they are very different kinds of fullbacks).

You said Hodgo was a solid club footballer, nothing more. I totally disagree, he was a step up from that, and for several years in his career he was in the top 2 or 3 fullbacks going around. Dally M fullback and highest point scorer 2005 - most points ever scored by a fullback in one season.

That is what makes the Forum interesting. We each have differing opinions on players.

Spot on the difference are what makes it interesting.

One of the great Garry Jack moments. Was in the crowd for this one never forget it.

Jack never played for Wests Tigers, Hodgo did. End of story.

Jack did play for wests in 1981, made is debut and played I think 6 games, but left for a permanent first grade gig at Balmain, but he never played for wests tigers, age had a say in that

Signing suggestions & Rumours Thread ....... ?????

Needs to be locked and started again.

Souths have a winger making his debut tonight, he supposed to be quick as, and pretty good, they have quite a few outside backs, and have designs on JAC, even if they let Johnston go this kid will still miss out, maybe worth watching his progress

Teddy is a better player than Jimmy Jack, but no one had it over Jack for toughness.
Best defensive FB I have ever seen.

And tough...remember v Norths he lost two teeth, bent down and put them in his sock and played on. Legend.

Plenty have run around /over Teddy .. no one did this to Jack or very limited ! Great defender

I was reading with incredulity that Connor Watson is on $600k. I don't believe he is worth anywhere near that figure. Brooks apparently is on less than that amount.

Chad Townshend's stats are pretty average. I'd say there was more upside to keeping their young half now at the Roosters especially. With his goalkicking.

Wow $600k for Watson is insane.

Newcastle must have hired the Rorters book keeper.

He came as a package deal with Pearce

Cotric good value at 600 IF...big IF...he transitions to an elite level center.

If not, it is too much.

Raiders seem convinced he is not a center.

Might be paying overs a bit, but the fact that a coach-less, basket case of a club like the Bulldogs can actually attract a current Australian Test winger while we still struggle to sign anyone of note really does my head in!

Agree mate... We seem to wait to the other clubs have there feast and come in and try our best on the left overs... we are desperate for a Major signing but people keep saying we need to make finals first but other bottom clubs can get them... We should hear of a signing in the next few weeks as the deadline is coming so expect a reserve grader or development player to be announced..
