Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Pantai may be overrated, but he is what we need and if Madge can get him under control he would be a great buy would go to $700 , also if reports are correct young Flanagan maybe be up against it at the roooters , he would also be good for us as a 1/2 and a top class goal kicker .

Pantai on $700...sounds about right for a no name

The fact someone rings the Roosters whilst under contract is one hell of a red flag. He’s seek a release after 1 week from the Tigers Broncos apart from the coach are a massive organisation.

But geez I would love it if we dug our fingers into the SL market a bit more

A lot of good talent there

Widdop has been a fine player but shouldn't we trust in our own young players? Madden, Camroux and Field all look good prospects.

Will Madden be ready for 2021 season? I haven’t seen enough of him to know.

This lack of lower grades is killing us.

Camroux resembles a young Moses without as much attitude. At present he'd only be eligible to play after July next year though. Madden should replace Benji once we can no longer make the finals. Absolutely no point playing Benji after that point.

Are you serious? Benji's so close to 300 games. We must owe him that much at least.

So much so if it was a penrith parra grand final i have no idea who i hate more. It would be a disaster

I would be devastated if that was the grand final

Parramatta to win only to be stripped of the tittle for salary cap cheating

If only

If only

It would be a painful wait though but what a way for them both to play in the big one and not have a winner

Still I would rather not see either team there

I don't want to see them have the experience of running out in a GF.

We owe him nothing. If he has left us in a position where we can't make the finals then he gets dropped immediately and we start planning for the future.

He's already been dropped once and he's one of the biggest factors to our lack of success. We need better.

For the right price, Tevita Pangai Junior would be a good signing. He’s the kind of guy who could really flourish under Madge, however I think he’s best suited as a middle forward and we already have plenty of those for next season, can’t see us putting more money there. We do need a second rower and he can play there though

Who are the kind of guys who would not flourish under Madge ..so we know who not to sign..

Lazy people like Marsters that’s why he got booted. A hard running hard tackling big fella is Madge’s bread and butter won a comp doing that

In another lifetime or in this case as parallel universe where the tigers are a team on top of the game, a signing like Pangai Junior would be outstanding.
However. We are in this universe and we are involved in a team where culture and attitude are at the forefront of our development.
For mine a player like Pangai Junior unfortunately could cause further issues at our club. I would play him at lock but it signing him would be a case of a desperate club trying to sign a big fish to show they can play with the big boys.
Really don’t like it.
It’s not going to turn out well for our club. Fifita on over a mil would be a better signing than Pangai junior on half that.
We already have 3 high paid players that have played half the season due to suspensions another hot head is not the right signing.

Suspensions are his big issue. He’s a good player but so so stupid on the field. Definitely a risk signing

What a shame they are only paying them $27.50, a $50 Bunnings voucher and a pie and a coke under the Cap a week..

Better question is who are the types to flourish?

Physical ability and toughness is the key. Looking backwards Burgess x 2, Teo, Inglis, Keary, Sutton, Auva, Nathan Brown strong dudes with some mongrel and confidence.

It’s similar at the Tigers Aloai, Luciano, Blore, Grant, Nofa. I think we need tough but physical athletes. Can be big or small ball players or forwards but they need to be tough.

Players that have gone backwards Mbye, Brooks, Jennings, MCK. Previously Merrit, Crocker a s Asotaai were punted.

Players between 20-26 years of age. Older players Madge buckles.

Dragons will be unlikely to sign Widdop if they can’t get rid of Norman. I would take Widdop to replace Benji next year, he is an injury risk but he’s a good controlling half who can kick goals. Short term deal

Not all older players. Packer is playing his best footy for us, but he fits the mold of a big forward too. Madge is all about power, that’s his style of coaching, priority is running over the opposition and hitting hard in defence

Watched a few Sydney Shield & Presidents Cup games over the weekend. Decent standard without being spectacular but plenty of youngsters having a run. Even Gagai's younger bro was playing in the centres for Syd Uni and bagged a few meat pies.

Given the unusual nature of the season our club should be striking deals to loan our fringe/younger players to these clubs. I'm unsure as to our professional relationship with those teams but surely some arrangement could be made so that the players don't miss out on a whole year of development

Rizk's playing for Ryde Eastwood
https://www.playrugbyleague.com/Competitions/Match/ryde-eastwood-hawks-ss-v-cronulla-caringbah-sharks-ss-374506

Curtis Wilson on the bench too. Felix Smith playing for Campbelltown but they have the bye this week.

From last year's Jersey Flegg:

* Burey to union.

* What's happened to Mavoni?

* Where has Dillon gone?

* What about Kei? Should be in our top 30 next year.

* Stefanovic - half?

Kei would be a development player if anything. Kids not even played reserve grade.

I’m not sure you fully understand some of the talent or kids that have been recruited or have played the last 2 years or so. There seems to be a lot of “let’s go onto the next”.

Kei doesn’t need to - seen enough of him to know that he’s the real deal. I don’t think he’s a development player and yet a far better prospect in my opinion than someone like Saab.

Question is though - who’s keeping an eye on our young squad for next year? Who at board/operational level has assigned this task or is everyone just sitting on their hands waiting at home whilst on JobKeeper - blaming a slow NRL directive to NSWRL re next year squad numbers (to be reduced) and cap levels?

Nothing like being reactive rather than proactive!

How about as.a club we get on the front foot and communicate and nurture the existing talents we have?

Just my opinion but these are some of the real issues that could.be covered off even with this shocking pandemic.

Any business could work this out - we need some leadership in this area or we will just keep chasing the dream and at unnecessary cost.

Interesting.
If only the NRL could be a bit better at putting 2 and 2 together.

Some of those knobheads' wages would be massively topped up with 3rd party deals yet the NRL released not that long ago that the Roosters TPA's were a measly total of 100k or thereabouts from memory.
Something most definitely smells around the Roosters version of the salary cap.
