JACKSON HASTINGS 2019 MAN OF STEEL
https://youtu.be/IIkQJaRRAkM

it's a bloody good video

Imagine big Lucy running off him inside the 20 like that big bopper in the video

Soft hands with a lot of his passes, I like that for the hole runners.

Jackson leans in and makes the defender committed before he offloads the ball to an edge running forward .. its a great technique really .. very effective .. Keiran Foran does it well in the NRL a few years back .. but by gee you get busted up quickly when the defenders are committed to tackling you just as you pass the ball .. look at Foran today .. !! ;-)

He's been to two/three NRL clubs and is now in the UK SL. Obviously two fair coaches have had him. They've believed him when he showed them whom he is. So what can you see from that clip that Robinson and Barrett didn't from their personal interactions?

I just saw Nathan Brown up the street, he looked happy as he should.

He has improved out of sight since getting out of Aus the incumbents at the clubs you mentioned played apart in him going overseas and it looks like it was a good move.Winning the 2019 MOS award would have boosted he's confidence and I feel he has unfinished business in the NRL his dad was a tough no frills player and legend at the Rorters and I would say he is a similar type.

Why didn't Ricky snap him up instead of George Williams?

The Roosters didn't want him.

Perhaps the easiest explanation is the best. That he is a fine UK SL level player but not at the NRL level?

George Williams is also not a star, he has looked good in a few games when Canberra have been on top, has not looked good when they were under pressure.

Who rates Jack Hetherington? He is a firey customer but teams don't take liberties with you when you have a player of his ilk on the field. The point is all you ex Bob Cooper fans should be in awe of him. I think he is worth a go if we can get him away from the Panthers.

He is the type of player you unleash - get out there and give me 15 minutes of chaos. No dirty stuff, just hard.

The risk of dropping players and swapping them repeatedly is damaging peoples confidence. It is a risky move and some players have taken their opportunity and some look confused and tentative.

Look at Matt Dufty. A lot of people on the forum were saying he can't pass, can't tackle and is useless, for the last few weeks he has been one of the best players in the comp. He is playing his best position, he is playing with confidence, it looks like the Dragons are playing with a different game plan that suits him.

The Sharks are playing a lot of last years reserve grade in their team and they look like stars.

We need to work out how to get the best of our players, not just buy more players and complain that they are duds when they play for us.

I would say we need Madge to concentrate on recruitment, defence, standards and motivation. We may need a change of assistants so we have a good attacking coach that can transform our attack like Barrett did for the Panthers.

I just watched Hastings highlights

That defence is honestly disgusting, Luke Brooks would look like an absolute god playing over there

Approach with a LOT of caution

I tend to agree - mentioned the same thing re Grace, a lot of speed but against SL level defence....

The Hasting highlights look pretty ordinary to me, he mostly just passes to someone that breaks the line by themselves, but he did support well.

Haha maybe I'm just easily impressed

Would say that 70% of the tries scored in the Hastings video would not have been scored in the NRL.

That doesn't leave a fantastic video to watch.

I know the Super League is not the NRL. But nor is it the Paddington under 5's, it's still a pro comp. I think some of us maybe a little too quick to brush off potential signings from there just because they think it's a poor standard comp.

I'm sure many on here were sceptical when we signed Gareth Ellis, for that reason.

You can only play what's in front of you, and talent is still talent.

Canberra have opened my eyes to the ESL a lot. While I think most players there aren’t NRL quality, there’s definitely some top players over there and we should for sure have scouts over there having a look at players. There’s a lot of real good quality English players in the NRL at the moment.

If he’s still giving me an average of 15 runs for 150 meters with 99% tackling efficiency playing every game this season, along with being a well known leader and along with having NSW and kangaroo experience then I don’t care if he’s 100 years old he doesn’t seem to be slowing down

And he’s only actually 31 will be 32 throughout next season....

Call me a hater but is it just me or did the only thing the video do was reconfirm to myself on how poor the quality of football the super league is in comparison to the NRL....

The defence and tackling looked terrible lol he was just bumping off and slipping out of tackles like nothing I doubt he’d be able to do that in the NRL.... wasn’t Zak Hadaker a man of steel once upon a time too

I’d prefer to sign a proven halfback who’s showed he can play in the NRL - players like Seizer, Foran and Widdop.... not an unproven NRL player in Hastings that’s the last thing we need, we should be targeting an experienced halfback to guide the team around

In the Super League he played alongside two former Tiger NRL players - Tui and Robert Lui - and was head and shoulders above both of them.

Spot on, as well as George Williams who is a better half than anything we have, he got run out of Manly because they had to back DCE, all is not as it seems, he is better than what we have, and is only 24

I live on the peninsula and DCE is not as popular as many think, he is a flog.Manly backed him over Hastings because of all the money they have invested in him.I dont know if Hastings is the answer but he is worth a try.

I can't believe some people have been talking up wanting Injury prone, has been Foran yet dismissing the idea of Hastings. At similiarish prices, I know who id want.

And when I say similiarish prices, I mean no a huge amount.

Maguire needs to address why Cleary could get the best out of Brooks but he appears to be unable to do it?

If Seizer and Hastings are serious options as our half I would question the path we are being taken down after the Joey Leilua and Jennings acquisitions.

This is a good point. Unless we solve the issue of why our halves are performing so poorly under the current coach and structure, it really won't matter who we sign.

Could start with giving them some go forward with the pack. No halves could perform well behind our current pack. They lift for one week and then go missing for three. There is a serious lack of physicality in our boys.

They've been killed the last two weeks but prior to that we've had multiple games this year where our pack has held their own. Even in games where we've won the battle in the middle, our halves have been ordinary. That's why Maguire has played a million combos - nothing is working.

Andrew Jones on 9 said we wouldn't make the 8. He believed our style of football could not be physically sustained. So really we can only buy so many forwards under the salary cap. Time for a different game plan.

Ikin last night said we looked 'cooked'. I agree with him.

As in Toast or Filet Mignon

Toast of course

Our forwards are cooked because they’re doing all the work. Even when we are winning games, it’s because the forwards are carrying us. Our halves do nothing to take pressure off our big men in every game and we are often under pressure defending our own line in majority of games especially in the close games vs top teams. If we had halves who could maintain field position and pressure we would not struggle as much up the middle.

Johns a few weeks ago said we would not make the 8 due to style/game-plan we use as it is not sustainable.

What exactly about our style isn't sustainable? To me we are the laziest team in the comp. The worst line speed in defence in the comp. We just stand still. Whereas opposing teams are practically tackling us as we catch the ball.

We play with no intensity. Surely a team can at least be lazy all season, or are we not even fit enough to do that?

We have patches of enthusiasm for 20 mins here or there. That's also totally sustainable, but not practical if you want to win games.

You look at other teams, the defensive line flys up than sprints back, and this goes on for 80 minutes. We do for the first five sets and than it’s all slow motion.

Its a question of depth ..we get a few injuries in the forwards and we are buggered

Other clubs can do the same ...rest a player here and there ......but they bring in players who can keep the standards that their side set

We needed to rest some players after the Parra game ...didn't do it ...and then paid the price

TPJ is going to be SACKED by broncos apparently - maybe he will get his move to roosters after all.

He’s an idiot on and off the field this bloke. At his best a great player, but has a pea brain.

I’d sign him in a heart beat. Madge type player.
Throw him in with Aloai, Blore, Utoikamanu, Luciano, Mikalele and you have one brutal forward pack. Throw in Brandon Smith as well.
