Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Welch. Elliott. JAC. Grace. Widdop. Hastings, I'm happy with two of the first three. Hastings would suit Brooks!

Maguire needs to address why Cleary could get the best out of Brooks but he appears to be unable to do it?

If Seizer and Hastings are serious options as our half I would question the path we are being taken down after the Joey Leilua and Jennings acquisitions.

This is a good point. Unless we solve the issue of why our halves are performing so poorly under the current coach and structure, it really won't matter who we sign.

Could start with giving them some go forward with the pack. No halves could perform well behind our current pack. They lift for one week and then go missing for three. There is a serious lack of physicality in our boys.

They've been killed the last two weeks but prior to that we've had multiple games this year where our pack has held their own. Even in games where we've won the battle in the middle, our halves have been ordinary. That's why Maguire has played a million combos - nothing is working.

Andrew Jones on 9 said we wouldn't make the 8. He believed our style of football could not be physically sustained. So really we can only buy so many forwards under the salary cap. Time for a different game plan.

Ikin last night said we looked 'cooked'. I agree with him.

You can only go so far with an average squad. If we made it into the 8, it'd be a fluke. I'd take it, but I don't want to fluke it, I want to be a shoo-in.

We need to scape in to get the monkey and media off our back, so we no longer have the record of longest finals drought, doesn't look like happening this year though

Our forwards are cooked because they’re doing all the work. Even when we are winning games, it’s because the forwards are carrying us. Our halves do nothing to take pressure off our big men in every game and we are often under pressure defending our own line in majority of games especially in the close games vs top teams. If we had halves who could maintain field position and pressure we would not struggle as much up the middle.

That's what I mean Avo we can't seem to handle the weekly grind and our go forward has not been a problem just this year it was the same under Cleary - because it use to drive me nuts. Our halves are on a hiding to nothing who ever they are until we get some big mobile bodies who can get us our of our own half without relying on Nofo taking up two of the hit ups. Might be wrong but our success rate for scoring is pretty good in the oppositions zone we just don't get there often enough.

It would help if our halves kicking games were up to a decent standard. Those 2 early 7 tackle sets that Benji conceded by kicking it dead were deplorable. At worst the opposition would scoop it up 1 mtr out and we’d pressure them with defence. Kicking it dead is the worst possible result.

As it was, the forwards had to scramble and back peddle 80m a couple of times which took the legs out of them. No energy left to attack with ball in hand and it kind of snowballed from there.

Same with our bombs & attacking kicks from around halfway. Hardly any hit the turf or were directed away from the FB. Those extra 3-5 seconds when the ball is bouncing cuts the FB’s run back mtrs considerably.

Doesn’t seem to be much of a plan with the kicking game apart from hoping the back 3 drop a bomb every now and then

Continually kicking the ball dead and not finding the grass off our kicks is killing us. The big fellas can only do so much work until they’re buggered and it’s been months of it now.

Johns a few weeks ago said we would not make the 8 due to style/game-plan we use as it is not sustainable.

As long as Benji is in the team, we will always be going for hail Mary plays and have no real game management (Brooks just as much to blame). It's all he knows and we forget all his faults after 1 or 2 miracle plays.

Yeah it’s garbage time when it comes to our 5th tackle options.

Can’t remember the last time they mixed it up during a game. Something different like an early chip & chase to get the FB spooked so he creeps up a bit then follow it up with a few long ones towards the corners. Keep them guessing and out of rhythm.

As it stands they know exactly what’s coming by simply watching last weeks tape

Looking at the highlights tape Hastings would improve our side

Absolutely he would. I would love to see him here.

Winning the 2019 Man of Steele would have meant he was a better and more consistent player than Raiders import George Williams who doesn't go to bad

He'll find it harder in the NRL but Hastings is the only half available that has potential to make a difference in our side next year.

Worth a gamble, and from memory he can play hooker as well.

Big yes to Welch 26, prefer big time to Taumau 31
Elliott 25 a better option that Proctor 31 for mine
JAC 25 depends, 0.76 tries per game is good, super quick but you can't go >$500k for a winger
Regan Grace 23 scores a try every second game and apparently is also super quick but I don't know enough
Widdop 31 is a no to me, plus he doesn't seem to know how to stick it out anywhere and he isn't a week in week out type
Hastings 24, i don't know, but agree he maybe could be good with Brooks

He is a far better option than Benji, can goal kick, I would be happy with him or Widdop
