Benji has absolutely nothing to gain from not announcing his retirement, he could get a proper send off, he wants to play again no risk.

I think he's trying to stroke his ego with 1 more season. Gunning for the most capped player no.1 spot.

Too often people aren't looking at VALUE but rather the player by themselves which is not how you manage a squad of 30. Do you think Benji has been worth $100k? I know I certainly think he has. Sure he has his flaws, but to me, that's damn good value. Better than brooks on 700k or Jrey on 800k? Yes.

Especially when you have a lot of bloated contracts on our books. We should be singing his praises as he's helped us through a difficult time.

What if he was happy to not play firsts and just became our backup next year? I still think he could provide value there. I'm not saying we do that, but it's an option we should be thinking about rather than dismissing.

Time to marshal in a new era without a Marshall.

Benji’s defensive frailties are having too much of a negative impact on the team. He’s getting burned on the outside and is a turnstile on his inside. If he’s not missing the tackles himself then he’s causing pressure on the guys around him. His kicking, game management and ball playing are generally still pretty good, but the speed of the game at this level has past him by.


His kicking and passing and options have been erratic to say the least. He creates more than our other halves but that isn't as much a statement on how good Benji is but how poor Brooks and Reynolds have been. We definitely need better. His defense has been atrocious.

He crabbed across field in the second half like he was attempting to get on the outside but he looked like he was on treadmill, it was a bit sad really. On the odd occasion he sometimes beats a forward with a snappy inside step, but the days of getting them on the outside are long gone.

I think he should join the staff as a specialist halves coach and pour his energies into getting the best out of Brooks next year (special project), he’s a good communicator and knows the game.

I think the best role for Benji is one where he isn't playing.

The problem isn't that we have Benji, the problem is that we have no one better. Benji needs to go, so we can get someone better.

Mind you, that could be said about half the squad, and many of them though we wish we could move on, we can't as there's nowhere for them to go.

Disappointing, sure, but the guy bled the club. Took a paycut to help the club out of a cap mess. Benji turned up on TV while still contracted to us not only wearing another teams jersey, another codes jersey.

I thought it was poor because at the time that happened, there was a Port Adelaide player who died on an end of season trip. His teammates had a real reason to cry, and here are our players having a cry cos one of them has to go play somewhere else.

Taylor - Off contract, hard to see him being re-signed
Dylan Smith - Off contract, he won't be around
Seyfarth - Off contract, hard to see him being re-signed
Jennings - Off contract, no way he'll be re-signed given the club is actively looking for speed out wide
McQueen - Off contract, no way he'll be here next year
Marshall - Off contract, no idea whether he'll go around again but I reckon in Benji's mind he knows he's done and it's hard to see him lacing up the boots next year
Eisenhuth - Honest toiler who puts in but it''s hard to see him hanging around. We need more grunt in the middle
Clark - Off contract and unlikely to be here next year
McIntyre - Off contract and the only bloke in this group I'd re-sign, but he's needed for depth

That's 10 players off contract and I reckon we're likely to only keep 1. Plus the club won't stand in the way of the following if they get a deal elsewhere:

That's too funny - Packer McQueen and Reynolds "fuming". Just finished reading an article on JRey's new hobby developing 1Mil plus housing developments. He is enjoying it.


It sounds like total BS. What would McQueen have to be “fuming” about. He’s played 10 games in 3 years. That’s the tell in what utter garbage the story is.


It actually does not state McQueen is fuming his contract was up and was not going to be offered a new one, states several senior players are, assume Mybe would be one of those on a cushy deal $950k a season and is average at best, how many times last game did he continue to rush out of the line and leave gaps. Other Senior players could be Brooks and Marshall would prefer another year i hear but the coach is not entertaining the idea, part of the softly softly approach recently he knows that he does not have a squad to complete with the Big guns.

It looks like Madge has given up on this group, so is letting them cruise through. Some have also given up on him but the handful of good players we have clearly still care. Hopefully some young guys get a run now and the deadwood can leave the bubble.


Well i think some players should look at the Adam Doueihi effort last game shows he wants to play for the club.
Well i think we have a fair bit of deadwood will take more than 1 season to clean out more like 2022.

Well who knows although i still don't think he is a long term FB, always stated great under the high ball, found a few gaps last game made some meters.
Spare bringing JAC back to the Tigers he is not a fullback either just wants to be paid FB money.
