Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Im ok with how this side is comingalong. With Watson reportdedly coming it makes our backline even more lethal. Im not overly fussed if we dont get rona/tupou now. Yes there height would be a bonus, but by all reports vvh fonua is killing ut in the EPL. Happy to have him on the wing with Marsters/Milne fighting it out for the centre position. Still need a agressivefront rower and a big agile 2nd rower. Hopefully Boyle, vete/Ofengauie would be perfect. The fact that Ivan has given Marsters/Twal/Felise/Eisenthun a go will keep us in good stead next year. Not sure if wel make the 8 next year, but wel be very competitive.

Every team that has won the competition in the past 20 years has used 25 players or less over the course of the season. The single most dominant reason that the Tigers aren't competitive is that our top tier salary cap currently includes, Sironen, Simona, Ballin, Farah and Moses. That is why we have to play the Kyle Lovett's of the world and that is why we are crap.

Thankfully, we now have a brain in Clearly and roster management will improve and we might be competitive again. But stop blaming the salary cap and TPAs.. its classic blame misappropriation. Blaming tools and not the person using them.

I think mate, that you are completely right in that the WT have been terribly mismanaged. Some of the decisions to retain players and to back-end their contracts has really hurt us hard.

TPAs also though make the system lopsided and not balanced.

Both have certainly contributed to the position we're in now. If we were great at the management decisions but had no TPAs, or had lots of TPAs but bad at the management and gave it to the wrong players, either way we'd still be in a bad position.

Our only hope for continued success is for good management, (and I will let others more experienced than me define what 'good management' is), and hopeful corporate sponsorship (TPAs) to come from that.

Based on above we will have room for another 7 assuming Grant leaves and ET extends. If we land Watson & Rona we will have cap room for another 5 players.
I would look at 2 props (Vete, Ofehengaue) 2 backrowers (Boyle, B Thompson) and a centre (Roberts)

That would be a solid squad.

Keep in mind that's assuming that ALL our signings are top 30\. This may not be the case and pending future signings, some of these signings might actually be second tier.

The whole point of having a top 30 is to reduce the need for a second tier, which would be more for juniors. So any of these players could play without issues with the cap. All of these signings would be top 30.

So is there no second tier at all from next year? You need more than 30 players to fill two full teams. So there must be some allowance outside the top 30?

No there would still be a second tier of some sort i imagine. There would be 10 or so nsw cup players who aren't in the top 30, plus u20 players.

The point is that previously clubs have been unable to call on fringe squad players or youngsters seeing they weren't in the top 25 and they had already approached the second tier cap. By having a top 30 there's an extra 5 players each club can call upon if injuries hit without any consideration of the second tier.

So in a nutshell the chance of using, not to mention exceeding the 2nd tier cap will be unlikley. It would only be for using players 31+ that we'd be using the 2nd tier.

Just read back page of the DT has the cap agreed at 10m
Looks like Cleary has got great value for money.

The story I saw on that $10 million figure had it as the 2022 cap, not next years.

9.5 million next year, rising to 10 million in 2022

There are a few comments floating around about Austin. It may be related to the Raiders' poor form but it is interesting because of his early departure from WTs to move to the ACT. Has anyone heard rumblings?

Wouldn't surprise me if he was on the outer at Canberra. Leilua was caught on camera during the Broncos game unloading on him for bombing a try due to him being a hog. He's probably the most selfish player I've ever seen. His outside men must hate his guts.

That's ripe because Leilua appears as dense as they come, and the play after Austin bombed the try, Leilua went himself from DH. He scored fine but Blake Austin scores a lot too when he goes himself.

You can't whinge when you don't get the ball out wide, if you just go yourself on the last anyway when the halves should normally get the ball.

Yes to an extant. Byt at the moment teans go through us. They dont need to even kick for tries 😂😂.

Our go forward will be twice as good from the back with them two there. Id like to get Rona. But if we dont then so be it.

Tupuo resigns but at least the Tigers made the roosters pay top dollar. They won't be able to keep them all. Let's see when there other players come on the market. The Tigers should talk up all there players , iwant politics to hurt like a [This word has been automatically removed]

The Roosters must now be running chook raffles now to fit these guys under their cap. Why are those people in high NRL places so hush hush about the Roosters CAP?

Tupou resigning gives more credence to that Ferguson story I posted a couple weeks ago. Very creative bunch those roosters.

All well and good but it just shows how bent the NRL is.
You said that Ferguson had to take far less because of the money the Roosters had to pay for the cover-up. I thought the NRL wouldn't register a contract that was well under value?

He will have TPA's that will never be paid.

The eels have released Kelepi Tanginoa.. in his teens and in NYC he was one of the standout prospects but hasn't kicked on. Would come cheap. He is one big human and got some speed

I know nothing else about him, but check out our ISP side. I say sign him up for Reserves and who knows what after that, couldn't hurt.

Why would you want him if he hasn't kicked on?
