Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Mansour and Naden both in the no category for me.

Also James Roberts is like BJ, but has speed instead of strength and if I’m being honest wouldn’t be a class above what we already have IMO. Attitude problems, defensive liability not what we need. Would rather persist with Talau, Momo, AJ, Mbye, AD then sign Roberts. Better off waiting till an actual gem that isn’t an outcast comes available or has a blocked pathway to regular FG.

No point signing someone just for the sake of it, also adding to that, we need to stop signing people because of ‘utility value’...we already got copious utility value in the squad. Nearly every back we have can play multiple positions.

I can’t believe the lack of love for Mansour, he was one of Penrith’s most consistent and hard working backs. He would put most of our players besides Nofo to shame

IMHO, we had a similar player - Fanua.
Unfortunately, his defence has the same/similar issues as Nofoaluma. Also, in attack, he is not faster then AJ or Talau.

The guy I spoke to is a sponsor at the knights we own some horses together and he was mainly talking to me about Roberts to newcastle but mentioned Dogs were looking at Naden or Mansour something about Penrith making room for Staines on the wing. I have no idea regarding penrith doubt they are under salary cap pressure but maybe they want some of the cash to hold Burton or something who knows
Personally think Mansour is a bad buy

Penrith will definitely be looking to manage their cap with Crichton, Yeo and Luai all off contract next year and all likely to command substantial upgrades. If they can shift Mansour and have Staines fill his spot it will free up a few hundred k to front load one of Yeo, Crichton or Luai.

He’s old and he’s slow. When Penrith struggled he was awful, that’s probably how he’d play for us. He’s also on big dollars too.

Panthers definitely have cap concerns to manage. They had a good team, then have a heap of good youngsters coming through on peanuts that require upgrades.

There's simply no way you could have both Nof and Mansour in the same team. They're the exact same player, we need someone a bit more rounded in defence and with more speed. Not an old has been on 400k a year.

Mansour to the Dogs makes sense given the lebanese connection i guess.

Nothing wrong with paying big bucks for players as long as they’re good players. Giving someone like JAC extra money is fine he’s in the prime of his career and is an Australian level player, he will be good. Big difference compared to paying overs for someone like Packer

You just can’t. Some people on here have suggested $1M a season and it just ridiculous. Imagine if he got a serious injury round 1. We would have $3M sitting on the sidelines for 2021. That is financial mismanagement personified. We need a balanced cap and that means not paying overs for anyone.

well how much were we looking at paying mitchell? and how long was he on the sidelines for this year? suspended 1 week and a major injury....head space on the guy aside bullet dodged

You don’t know how much we were going to pay Latrine. You only know what the media wanted you to think you knew to generate click bait and media revenue.

You're right....

But are you saying we could've signed him just by being the Tigers and not offer more than we should've? What could we have possibly sold to him except a position number and truckloads of cash?

You can’t beat kinship. Latrine was only ever using Wests Tigers as a measuring stick to see what he was worth. I don’t believe he had any intention of coming here. He was always going to be with his buddies at the Wabbits. No amount of money would have changed his mind.

I agree with that. He had $800 on the table to stay at chooks and apparently settled for $600 to be coached by GI.

Question, if Mansour is so bad and Staines is so good why was Mansour in first grade and Staines not?

Similar could be said for Ferguson over Nofa in origin or Garner over Blore this year, Milford over Dearden, Whare over Crichton at the start of the year...all pretty subjective with the coach and doesn’t always tell the full story. Also Rankin over JAC from memory.

Lots of it to do with incumbency and experience IMO. Sometimes right, sometimes wrong.

Much of it I would say for Staines case would be linked to his hamstring injury recurrence

I guess because Staines has had only 2 nrl games, while Mansour is a 9 season veteran who bleeds OAK flavoured milk.

I think we should make a very attractive offer to Tedesco before Roosters resign him. Something along the lines of Latrells offer, 5 years or more. The fact the Roosters are looking at Suali should raise concern of Teddys long term future. Cant hurt?

I suggested this months ago and got shot down. Yet the same people who shot me down still think Harry will stay after he’s confirmed over and over that he’s going back to the Storm

With Tedesco, I’d withdraw the offer to JAC and off Teddy 1.5 million, a position on the board, stakes in the club, anything it took to bring him back. Won’t happen, but it doesn’t hurt to dream.

We will not get tedesco unfortunately I wish we could though.
Why can't we load up the big offer for Grant make it hard for him to take a melbourne offer.

because until smith retires there is nothing to offer for next year....and Grant has to say he is returning because he is obligated to.

But come nov 1 there is nothing to stop us loading up a contract for him for 2022....

Isn't he already contracted for 2022

I thought it was only for next year but had a clause to get a release if smith played on??

I could very well be mistaken....

He does have a clause, but just because it’s there doesn’t mean he’ll automatically activate it. The appeal of being apart of a premiership winning side probably negates Smith playing on.

I get it GNR4LIFE you don't rate Grant a SOO player and would be satisfied with Liddle and putting the money elsewhere

Now you're just making stuff up - i never saw anywhere that GNR doesn't rate Grant. what i have seen is the fact that he keeps saying Grant is contracted to Melbourne until the end of 2022 and he ( Grant ) has constantly said he is returning to Melbourne. Your obsession with Grant is way over the top.

Mate i could say Liddle is the greatest you would not agree with me
if my comments bother you then don't respond to them and have yourself a nice day

I don't bother commenting on most of the things you write on here because half of it is just ridiculous. But when you make up stuff about what other people have said then i will have a say. And for the record i rate Grant a better footballer than Liddle and i wasn't the one who gave you a negative vote.

Mate not saying that can respond if he likes but it seems like I shoukd just say nothing in reply then. but he shouldn't accuse me of making stuff up. He may not agree with my opinion but should accuse my opinion as making stuff up.
in relation to you an me we do not agree on anything if one if us think the sky is blue then the other would go out and check it.
I dont think you and I would ever agree on anything

This is what you said " ***I get it GNR4LIFE you don’t rate Grant*** a SOO player and would be satisfied with Liddle and putting the money elsewhere." Show me where GNR has said that and i will apologise - otherwise you just made it up. Oh and by the way Grant is not a SOO player yet.

Staines would be a great addition to our squad, but we’re much too late. The time to recruit him was 2019 before he played nrl. Now his manager is asking too much. If Storm wanted him, he would have been signed in 2018 and now have a couple more years on his contract on half of what he’s now asking.

Staines fits the profile of player with which to build out team. Highly talented, a fullback, extremely fast and with a good junior rep history. He has been nutured in one of the best development systems and stood out in his games in the NRL. Mansour has well and truly peaked and is on the way down. We need to move away from those players.
