Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We would be stupid to waste cap space and spot on the roster for mansour! He might strengthen us in the short run, but we risk the possibility of our young players not getting experience or worst case losing them to other teams.

I like the idea of a kick target on both sides of the field. Doueihi (193cm) could swap places with BJ for a set play for Brooks to kick to, but on the left I can't see an obvious choice.
I would love to know how quick these guys are over 30 & 50m.

182cm David Nofoaluma
183cm Josh Mansour (rumour only)
185cm Asu Kepaoa
189cm Tommy Talau
191cm Paul Momirovski
196cm Daniel Tupou (for comparison only)

So does the fact Pascoe and Hartigan talk about identifying our need for speed rule out signing Mansour? A bit contradictory to say we need speed then sign an old slow winger, surely.

Maybe, lets start winning first, before being super worried about the young players, they will force there way in if they are good enough.

Here we go again! Let's give a big message to any aspiring young player, do not go to Wests Tigers, they prefer slow, old has-beens, so you up-and-comers do not get a go. The Club talks about building a culture, so why go back to the old tried and failed AGAIN.NO to Mansour!!!Let's build a culture that gives us the reputation of giving good up-and-coming players a fair go!.

I would say the Mansour talk is just trying not to burn bridges incase Nofo deal falls through. I don't think we have any intentions in Mansour once he resigns which most people believe he's close to.

I don’t think one relates to the other

Nofoaluma is a right winger
Mansour is a left winger
Both bring the ball back hard
Both solid wingers
And not a bad combination on our edges
I wouldn't be upset getting Mansour at all for a year or 2 max

We dont really have any world class players in our team and I don't think we should be paying a million dollars for one either
A couple of players on the edge of greatness would be good
If Nofoaluma sticks around, and we get Mansour along with the fullback we signed from Penrith or Mbye, I wouldn't mind going real hard for both Crichton and Staggs
That would have to be close to the best back 5 in the Nrl
Then If Doueihi can kick on in the halves with Brooks, our one to seven could be set
Our Front row looks great on paper
We have two quality Hookers to choose from
Only real weakness would be our back row but I think we could find someone from within
Lj has one spot so really just after one more good back rower as we have a little depth in Garner

Crichton and Staggs would end up being just as good if not better than Gasnier and Cooper
Or Ettinghausen and McGraw

They would form a lethal combination

Mansour would be a retrograde step and all the good work done by the WTs would be undone. We don't need another slow winger who can't tackle. We already have Nofoaluma. We should be working overtime training our best youngsters to ready them for the NRL. Kepaoa. has already demonstrated he can score tries Nofoaluma can't because of his pace. Pace brings a whole new dimension to both the attack and defence.

Ihave been going on for ages about Cricthto,Staggs, and Laui as players we need to chase for 2022.Many think 2nd rower is priority ,i think backs.I would pay overs for 1 of this type of player. We definitly need a goal kicker and a fullback. The club will be looking at this I;m sure.GO TIGERS

Trade Mbye for Cheese please!

Doesn't even have to be the actual player, just swap Mbye for a packet of Kraft Singles.....we would still come out on the right side of the ledger with that deal.

This is so true. I don't think the club could be so stupid as to sign Mansour on any terms. I've lost count of the young backs we have coming through but we are certainly starting to put a fair few roadblocks up. A 3 year or even 2 year contract would have these players looking elsewhere ASAP after a few games this year after they have had a chance to play CC or JF.

They are NOT going to learn anything from Mansour being at the club. As I have posted elsewhere, most of our younger players don't get anywhere near NRL training (mostly go to Liverpool) unless they are on a development contract or 16 or 17 showing some sort of promise. This has been going on for years and not one thing has been done about it. Ridiculously they don't even get to meet them either during or post season events unless they win an individual award. (If it's a cost thing, why not at least give them a chance to pay to go to a presentation evening and meet their heroes?).

Having played a number of sports many years ago, I can testify that by encouraging first graders particularly in their elite competitions to mix and share with lower/younger grades, creates massive goodwill and excellent club culture.

Clearly this strategy is not a priority at Wests Tigers.

There is plenty of talent at JF level believe me - we just need to look under the hood. Mansour is NOT an option.

This kid looks good. He needs more chances. We lost Korobiete and JAC due to not giving them their chance. I'm not saying Kepaoa is in that class. He just needs plenty of chances.

My Signing Hopefuls:

1. The Cheese, 3 year deal for 600k a year. But I doubt Storm would release with out a player swap. Put the Dogs front runners who might swap Napa

2. Widdop, I know his age and injuries. Can cover Fullback and 5/8. I would play him at Fullback, doesn’t really have to defend which is good for his shoulders. Great kicking game and can kick goals. Also if Douhei fails at 5/8(I hope he doesn’t) we have options. Mbye back to 1 and Widdop 6. Only offer a 1 year deal for 300k

3. Scott Sorensen, depth back rower who could nearly get a starting position depending on how Garner goes. 2 year deal for 200k

You think the Storm would want Napa? lol They want a quality replacement. Same thing rules us out, we don't have anyone they'd want.

Heard on SEN that STORM want the big second rower back( can't think of his name) that signed for the TITANS if the CHEESE is going to the TITANS

Why want him back? lol

Titans signed him heaps early in the season when he was barely rated. Melbourne probably gutted in the end losing him seeing him carve up towards the back end lol

He was highly rated early in the season and has been for some time, the Titans just threw money at him that the Storm couldn't (or wouldn't) match. Barely rated forwards don't get contracts worth north of $600K per season.

Tino got a 750k a year contract after playing 5 or 6 games the year before. Titans took a punt and looks like it’s paid off. Still think they’d be a bit worried he follows the trend of players that leave Melbourne and go on to be average.

Adam Blair rings a bell. Gun while at Melb, comes to Tigers and was terrible.

Sheens was as much at fault as Blair was,Tim tried to change the way Blair played and it wasnt using his strengths

Exactly, I have said it many times, Blair was good at Brisbane and the Warriors too. He wasn’t as bad here as a lot of people made out, but he was poorly used by Sheens, but he missed no games whilst here

Good at Warriors? He was absolute rubbish hence they convinced him to retire early. His stats were terrible for Warriors with most games in 2020 barely making over 50 run metres. I do agree he was decent a Broncos though and showed there were definitely flaws in how he was used at Tigers.

Tigers extend Maguire deal as club declares interest in Brandon Smith
Christian Nicolussi
December 11, 2020 — 12.01am

On the same day the Wests Tigers announced coach Michael Maguire had extended his deal by a further two years, the joint venture made it known they were the latest club to entertain signing Brandon Smith.

Maguire will remain at the club until at least the end of 2023 as the premiership-winning coach slowly starts to build the roster he wants.

And Smith, the Melbourne star who has been given permission to negotiate an early release from the Storm for 2022, is certainly no stranger to Maguire with the pair spending time together with the New Zealand side.

While the Gold Coast Titans and Brisbane Broncos have made it known they would welcome Smith, Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe said Smith was one of the best players going around.

"Brandon is a quality player – any team would love to have Brandon Smith," Pascoe told the Herald. "But as it stands he is not available until at least 2022, Melbourne have made it clear he won't be released next year, and we still have three spots to worry about.

"Our main focus, now that 'Madge' is done, is re-signing David Nofoaluma. David is happy at the club, we love David, and we'd love to think we can get something done by Christmas."
One of those vacant spots is being kept for Penrith fullback Daine Laurie, who is already signed with the Tigers for 2022, but remains on a development contract with the Panthers who have spent the past four years developing him and are keen to salvage at least something for their efforts.

Laurie is an electric fullback who has already been hailed as an exciting prospect by several Tigers.

There have been suggestions Laurie and winger Josh Mansour would be free to leave Penrith for the Tigers as a package deal.

Maguire's signature was quickly celebrated by fans on social media with the notoriously hard taskmaster determined to make the Tigers ruthless winners rather than likeable.

The signing of Joe Ofahengaue, along with the retention of Zane Musgrove – who praised Maguire when discussing the reasons he spurned big-money deals to recommit to the Tigers this week – and Shawn Blore, not to mention possibly Smith from 2022, are exactly the no-nonsense players Maguire loves.

"We have faith in 'Madge', he's bought into what we're trying to build here at the club, and he's certainly adding value with his strong value set and competitive desire to win – it's the perfect mix," Pascoe said.

Maguire said: "We’ve put a lot of work in over the last couple of years and I’m seeing plenty of change for the club to move forward in a big way. We're all not happy with where we’ve been and everything we do now is about moving us forward towards a premiership."

Maguire's deal will take him through to five years at the helm, which will make him the second-most capped coach behind Tim Sheens at the joint venture. He has the job of ending the club's finals drought that dates back to 2011.

I understand Brandon is an established beast of a player, and it's a hard decision but we should bank on Simpkin, with Liddle helping out till he's ready to take over as a 80 minute hooker in 1-2 years.

Would love him to come over as a 13, but Brandon clearly wants to be playing hooker.
